Elon Musk says he withheld Starlink over Crimea to avoid escalation
retarius replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I've always been 50:50 about Musk. But he has certainly gone up in my estimation. His morals and reasoning are sound. Plus it may prevent Russia shooting down his satellites when the war escalates. -
Former senator proposes ways to cut energy prices
retarius replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I've got an idea that's a real winner for Thailand's energy prices. How does free electricity sound? Sounds pretty good to me. All Thailand needs to do is to use its immense soft power to bring down the world prices of oil and gas. There fixed it for you ! I know I'm totally stupid, but my idea is as workable as her's. -

I don't know about you, but I am bored stiff with Thaksin stories. Thailand is what it is, it isn't going to change in the foreseeable future. It operates like an oligarchy, not any sort of recognisable democracy; or maybe a kakistocracy, where the least suitable people as chosen as leaders and the Thai people are apathetic. Money trumps justice in Thailand and the rich, like Mr T and Boss get away with stuff that seems incredible to us. But OK we've heard it 300 times since he came back. How about a single weekly update?

Outrage over Abbas's antisemitic speech on Jews and Holocaust
retarius replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Human Rights Watch has said that Israel is an apartheid state, it is a well known and respected human rights organisation. I believe them rather than news on the TV or western sourced media. I think Israel's treatment of Palestinians is disgraceful, barbaric and shameful. Palestinians are human beings as well, and if you walk a mile in their shoes, you might be able to understand. I do understand that many farangs are ignorant of the real situation in Palestine and will not be able to understand this point of view. -
Am I the only one using (Indian) 'cook in sauces'?
retarius replied to BritManToo's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
My ex used to use them when I got married 50 years ago. They were ok, but not used them since. I only eat Indian in Pattaya, Krabi or Bangkok. Then only occasionally. -
You know they just passed a measure in the UK to discourage people from charging at home. For home charging you need to have a separate meter installed. The tariff on this meter is much higher than the rate for general home use. Also they have introduced measures that prevent charging at peak electricity usage times ie no charging in mornings or evenings. Imagine you wake up in the morning and realise you forgot to charge your car but need to go to work, sorry you can't charge it after 5am in then morning. I always want to know how governments were going to replace the tax revenue from petrol, now I know. Look for this to be replicated around the globe, it's not even expensive tech to do it.

Thapanee Kiatphaiboon Assumes Role as TAT Governor

Vital must-read news. -
There are some iron clad rules. One of which is that an incoming PM in Thailand will claim to want to do something about corruption, but Thailand will be as corrupt as ever, possibly more so, when Srettha leaves office. His partners-in-crime will leave the coalition if he takes away the trough.

I must admit, it doesn't sound like a winner. They have a lot of these schemes. I remember 'Thainess' a few years back....it died a death too. Politicians like to put out all sorts of initiatives when they come to office then quietly forget about them? Personally I don't have much faith in them because I'm still waiting for the last PM's promise of Returning Happiness to the People (RHP). It was news for a few weeks and then faded away, only to be replaced by OFOS? Don't worry it will soon be forgotten.

Impunity for the rich and powerful undermines Thailand’s democracy
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It is like looking for hen's teeth looking for an institution free from corruption and very few are effective....the police, the courts, the government, starts there and goes into all of Thai society. -
Just end the subsidies for EVs. That will stop EVs dead in their tracks. EVs are not that much good for the environment and the CO2 savings are minimal at best. Also from the point of view of the child labour and exploitation, they are an abomination. You are just changing one set of bad environmental issues for others ie despoliation of the planet in the search for rare earths.

More Lazada PC / website annoyance - Or is it just me?
retarius replied to Crossy's topic in General Topics
I used Lazada for a few years. The website was OK but the English edition was very disappointing, but what irritated me was the constant receiving of wrong or defective goods. Like you, Lazada then started to forget who I was, and efforts to sign up again were hampered by "this email already in use." To reset the password proved to be impossible. Result? I stopped using them. -
‘Russian-only’ businesses in Thailand’s Phuket spark backlash
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Thailand's WP rules are from the Dark Ages. How can you operate in a global economy with these medieval rules? No wonder none of the government websites work properly.
