As Israel attacks Rafah, US offers only words of caution
retarius replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Israel
Oops sorry my mistake....should have said '2000 lb or cluster bomb'. I'll try to get a citation for you. I read it in the UK's or independent, I think. It may take a few minutes. -
As Israel attacks Rafah, US offers only words of caution
retarius replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Israel
Whilst I agree with you that we need a two state solution now, I'd say that the UN erred gravely when they bowed to Jewish terrorism in the post war period and recognised Israel. It is now time to undo that mistake. -

Your total disregard of human life and compassion for humanity disturbs me. -

More compassionate humanity from Israel. -
Oh! on re-reading your post, I see it is your incomprehensible dribble, masquerading as writing, that is misleading. It seems what you meant to say was 'Russians (parachuted) into east Ukraine were not ethnic Ukrainians'. I do not dispute this totally obvious, tautological observation. The result of your lack of clarity is that all meaning was lost, so buck up and learn to communicate. The Soviet era has long gone, so are you saying that anyone under the age of 30 or so now, no longer speaks Russian? How about bilinguals, how its their ethnicity determined by you? If Stalin parachuted Russians into Ukraine, didn't they already speak Russian, and so were of Russian ethnicity? If they have lived in Ukraine since Stalin 'parachuted' them in, is it ok for ethnic Ukrainian nazis to kill them now? Don't bother trying to explain, I'm simply parroting you in being an irritation to decent people. Regards my nom-de-plume, it was never meant to have anything to do with gladiators. It is my own coined original name that I have used for about 25 to 30 years or so on many sites, so your 'gotcha' falls on deaf ears. And don't imagine that looking it up on Google impressed me with your knowledge of Latin, or was original in any way. I studied classics and know what a retiarius is, as well as what gladiatrices, rudiarii and secutori are, so go ahead and look them up. Your childish insults are as childish as your inaccurate writing, but less irritating. Usually negative commenters say 'it should be retardius' as their riposte, which is, at least, humorous, and not pedantic. But you, of course, as a pedant, are not that witty or clever. Why don't you spend an hour combing through this post for a spelling mistake? What a boring life you must have!

Blinken is a sock puppet. US needs to cut all ties with Israel and all aid; and kick the dual citizens (US/Israeli or US/Anywhere else) out of Congress and the Senate. Enough all ready. I don't want my tax dollars to go to support massacres of Palestinian women and children. How can a 2000lb cluster bomb be called aid???????????? -
I do hope you are wrong and Hegel is right.

The Existentialist philosophical movement over 100 years ago realised that the world was absurd. I never expect the world or the universe to be one, logical or fair. This philosophy has served me well and stops me ranting at the world. I save my rants for wars and politics, but they are equally absurd, which is karmic. Personally I have no objection to gays or ladyboys but have zero interest in developing a romantic interest in either. After a lifetime of cheating and 'laying pipe' all over the globe, I am now happy to be monogamous with my Thai lady of the past 18 years. She is all I need. Having said that, I also have no wish to have sexual perversions rammed down my throat by TV or the press, and presented as though they were normal. I never watch TV, and really don't understand what anyone thinks is worth watching (the 1% of it, perhaps? But why would I sit through 99 hours of rubbish to watch 1 hour of quality programming?) so I don't actually see the gays kissing in soaps. My mother used to inflict East Enders on me when I visited her while she was alive, and I was revolted by the sight of males kissing. I must say however that lesbians doing the same thing is exciting to me, but I wouldn't;t inflict it on others. Anyway I sympathise with the plight of the OP, and hope he gets his refund. In my single days I met some interesting ladies on-line but I never used on-line dating apps.

Well if that makes them happy, why not? Some people make life choices which are different from out own, but your comment sounds judgemental, and who are you to judge? 'Judge not, lest you be yourself, judged'.

A great job by Tucker and Mr Putin. I do hope that viewers were comforted by Putin's grasp of history, by his calm demeanour, and that they believed his lack of desire to invade the whole of Europe. The event seemed to be meant to present Mr Putin as the calm and reasonable humanitarian man that I believe he is. Th e communications strategy for the Kremlin seem to be that Medvedev delivers the strength warnings of nuclear Armageddon and Putin is more restrained in his pronouncements.....bad cop/good cop if you like.

Deciphering (keynumbers) from a public hospital bill?
retarius replied to KhunBENQ's topic in Health and Medicine
The US uses standard codes in healthcare for diagnosis and treatment to facilitate insurance payouts. I would imagine that this is something similar. It is also handy insofar as it makes it more difficult to dispute the outrageous bills. I use private hospitals and they use codes plus an explanation of the service in English is provided so its easy to check your bill. Maybe public hospitals have explanatory text in Thai? -
I agree, though I'm not sure of the timing....it may be introduced to fanfare at the Convention if that is not judged to be too late. The fact that Biden is presumably unwilling to withdraw right now, shows that his mental capacity is diminished. If he can't see what the rest of the world can see then he is unfit for the presidency. Michelle is be a great candidate, but we don't know what skeletons are in her closet, they. No doubt GOP operatives have their magnifying glasses out hunting for the secrets as we speak. If she has secrets then the announcement will likely be later rather than sooner. I don't know about Newsom as a running mate....he has tons of baggage and is very attackable, but I'm sure he will attract the female votes with his good looks. I have never believed the Michelle is a man with Barack as a gay bloke canard....but I'm sure the Trump faithful will lap it up like the birther stories around Obama's presidency. I tend to think that it will be rejected as unseemly by potential Michelle voters and don't expect the conspiracy theory will have much of an impact, unless it's true of course (which would explain the Dem fascination with all things tranny). I hope Michelle, as a mother, would cut support for Israel's massacring of Palestinians' women and children and would be disinclined to go to war with Iran and China. Women leaders, though, it must be said, don't have a good record as regards war. They seem to need to out do men in toughness. What would be totally brilliant would be to see Trump go insane at this news.

You sound like a Biden voter trying to justify your vote for him. If it makes no difference whether you have a mentally competent or incompetent President why even have a President? Clearly there should be no place in the White House for a patient with senile dementia. And Biden seems to have early Alzheimer's or a variant now and what the hell will he one like in 5 years time when his term finishes? There is no justification for Biden being in the race other than his incumbency and his possible ability to beat Trump at the ballot box. But where's the fun in an election where one candidate Biden, cannot be allowed by his handlers, to even debate Trump.....because we both know he would be totally annihilated.

It is treating me very well indeed. I am very contented and happy with my life and wouldn't;t change a thing. Fortunately I retired early enough at 54 and enjoyed many good years before health issues got me last year. I'm going on 71. My illness has curtailed what I am able to do and will shorten my life, but I am reconciled to that. I have little to do apart from go to see doctors, but then I am not the sort of person who gets bored and yard work, D-I-Y don't interest me in the slightest. I live like a Victorian gentleman from the 1800s out of a novel by Thomas Hardy. I manage to get out a couple of afternoons a week to the pub, to 'enjoy' English conversation (it's usually about sport and bores me stupid) so I keep it limited to 2 times a week. I don't watch TV at all and so read extensively but only good quality fiction. My wife is younger and still full of life and she keep me on my toes dragging me out shopping, to visit people, or to visit some place she has read about. We used to go out partying when I was in my 50s and early 60s and had access to cities but do little of that sort of stuff now. What do I miss? Being part of my kids' lives. They are doing well, raising families and in their 40s. A weekly video and an annual get together don't really add up to being involved in their lives. But there is a price to everything.

Trump’s 14th Amendment case reaches Supreme Court
retarius replied to Social Media's topic in World News
This is fascinating and gives me some hope for a decent US. Frankly the SCOTUS, is to me, the last institution that I have any faith in at all. The rest, the WH, DoJ, Pentagon, State Department, military, CIA, FBI, Senate, and Congress are all led by people who are unfit to be in positions of power and who have forfeited my trust by endless lies and lying. I will await the decision and then will have to accept whatever happens, but I will believe that the decision will have been arrived at in good faith. The only SCOTUS judge whose good faith I might dispute is that of Clearance Thomas. -
Thailand’s post-pandemic economic recovery still trailing behind
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Give the man, Srettha, some time....the previous incumbent did nothing to support the post pandemic recovery except spend vast sums of borrowed money of projects that he failed to finish, like the road and rail links to Korat. -
Expat Tax Twists in Thailand: Navigating the New Landscape in 2024
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thank you for this. I have a 401K account in the US into which untaxed funds went during my working life. It is really deferred income, and so the US taxes any distributions you take. Up to age 70 you can opt not too take any distributions. As I understand it (and I may be wrong), under the US DTA, you can opt to pay the tax in either jurisdiction, Thailand or US. So I suppose the challenge is then, where do you want your tax dollars to go? Here to build roads and schools (and supply all those whose noses are trough) or in the US where I get zero benefit, and where they spend too much money, imho, warmongering. My choice boils down to supporting endless war or endless corruption.- 440 replies

Expat Tax Twists in Thailand: Navigating the New Landscape in 2024
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I have wondered about 'gifts' to my partner here, and to whom I am not married. My situation is specific in that I wish to gift my partner as I have life shortening disease and cognitive impairment. I would like to gift her now so as to avoid her possibly having to fight for a share of my US assets when I am gone. My ex-wife and kids are nice people but I don't really think I can trust them to look after my current partner (of 18 years) when I am not around physically or mentally to police things. Note there are valid, logical and legal reasons, which I will not go into here, as to why my partner and I are not married. The position on gifts might end up murky. -
Ukrainian infantry units report acute shortage of soldiers
retarius replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Ukraine
If true, I look forward to them being rapidly overwhelmed by Russia on their way to a quick Russian victory in the spring of 2024. I suspect it is not true. I suspect the missing ammo is still in storage awaiting sale on the back market or use by Ukraine's nazis if their situation gets dire. -
Democrats Rally Behind Biden Amid Report on Age Concerns
retarius replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I think old people come in various shapes, sizes and cognitive abilities. It is true that Trump and Biden are similar in age, but they are not similar in oomph or cognitive ability. As you say, these filthy hypocrites would be cheering to high heaven if the DOJ cancelled Trumps indictment on a similar offence for the same reason. For example, I am 70 and have rapidly diminishing cognitive ability and energy levels. I would support an age disqualification for politics as there are way too many grey, old, white men in US politics. I have suggested the you should have to be below 70 years of age on the date the election is run. -
