Thailand targets 23.1 million MICE visitors by fiscal 2024
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I am surprised that MICE are so big in Thailand. If TAT's target is 40 million visitors with the usual caveat about Chinese and Indians and domestic visitors....then over half of tourism is MICE lead. Go MICE, I say, Go MICE. Let's have lots more MICE. I wonder if they have enough conference facilities....there is the Queen Sirikit centre of course, but I don't know of many others. I will worry about this tonight. Will they have failed if they only get 23.049 million instead of 23.1 million? This will keep me awake as well. -

What did you expect exactly? Reduced competition is unlikely to bring down prices. -
2G/5G Routers and internet telephony
retarius replied to retarius's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
You might be right, but it's a personal router used only by the folk in our house. When I complain about dropped connections the 5G service in the mornings, maybe there are 4 or 5 other users connected to the router by mobile phone. The service never plays up in the evening when the staff have gone home. In any event, I have ordered two basic Nokia phones and will get SIMS for them and see if they work; I've changed my mobile phone provider (ditched AIS after 19 years, and gone with true) to see if that helps; and I've learned how to change from 5G to the 2G on my phone. If it doesn't;t work, I'll have to ditch 3BB and get another internet provider. -
2G/5G Routers and internet telephony

I should have mentioned that I use FaceTime for video calls....and 5G works fine with that. This is why I am not sure my theory is correct and asked on here. -
Is Science Based upon Faith? Will the World End?
retarius replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I don't think so. Science like any other human endeavour is based on rewards and punishments, how scientists advance in their careers and human tendencies like that. Climate science is like that, why bother being a climate scientist ion you can't get grants, and you can't get grants and get your work published unless you toe the line, and so you apply for grants to do experiments that will conform the narrative. MRNA vaccines were like this, you could not get papers peer reviewed that didn't tout the narrative that all should take vaccines. But it has been like this since the dawn of university science e departments. Prizes very rarely went to those who thought outside the box, but went to those who did safe experiments that bolstered the current narratives. Also you want to get grants as as a post-doc, get a teaching post, advance to senior lecturer, dept head, professor, well you better toe the line. So since is based on faith, but based on the faith of what is best for me. What is often not spoken about is the scale of cheating. Making results up, casting out results that don't 'fit' and the like. I saw this a lot when I was studying for my PhD. At the time I could barely believe it....student presenting experimental results with perfectly straight lines showing the relationships they had discovered. Using the same spectrophotometers that I did, I knew the results were faked, invented, whatever. In my experience with research in Big Pharma, I had the same issues, namely patients were eliminated from the results if they died, developed massive problems, failed therapy etc. It was rampant in the 1980s and 90s, but FDA cleaned it up, or made it more difficult to cheat, let's say. But in those days if a negative study happened which it did, it simply was never submitted for publication. But FDA insisted from the mid 90s onward that all clinical studies were entered into a database and tracked so that all research had to be published. -
Prompt Pay - Funds Never Came
retarius replied to Neeranam's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Is it maybe some sort of scam? Why did your daughter send you the money? My kids never send me money unless;ess I request it specifically. -
I'd pay the fine on the 90 day report if I were .....it's only 1600 baht, and there can be no complaints, as we all know the rules and can easily calculate when it is time to renew our passports.

2 Polish women apologise for sunbathing in Chiang Mai temple
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
The impression from reading Thai media, is that the police do a great job of solving murders and intercepting drugs....barely a day goes by that we don't have police 'pointing' in the press. I suspect the real situation is very different. I suspect many people are tortured into confessing as the poor guy whose mad wife was killed by youths including a son of a policeman. I have several examples of people who were coerced into selling drugs including yaba by police: 'sell drugs for us or you are going to prison'. I would love to see the real numbers of crimes solved. Like you I'm a bit appalled at police spending their time with petty stuff leaving serious criminal stuff unsolved and traffic law enforcement at zero as thousands die on the road. Having said that, police are a bit of a soft target. The rampant corruption, caused in part, by a totally inadequate wage structure that needs supplementation by donations from motorists. -
There's always one huge virtue signalling hypocrite in the room isn't there? Ugh, and I suppose you you respect the beliefs of cannibals to eat their ancestors. No you don't, do you? Because in your highly biased opinion, their's is not a belief that you should respect. Get they behind me Satan, with your hypocrisy. And I never implied their belief was wrong, it simply differs from my beliefs, which is that after death we are gone and it doesn't matter a fig what happens to our bodies. Believing it does, is no different to a cannibal believing that they should earthier ancestors flesh. Superstition pure and simple. The difference between you and me mate is that I understand my biases, but you don't think you have any, because you lack the ability to see yourself.

Prison officials say Thaksin eligible for parole

I suppose congratulations are due to all the Thaksin haters who 'knew' he wouldn't spend a night in jail. I wonder why you didn't go down to the hospital and protest? -

Are you a lawyer? No thought not. -
A good deed? I guess so, but there are better uses for the money here in the country but they would attract less attention in the press. I never understood the sentimentality and rigmarole about bodies, burials etc. I tell my wife save the 150K for the funeral, just buy a can of petrol and throw it over me in the back garden, but she is worried about the police.

Yes, yes, yes, release him, please. Who makes the decision? Is it a court, the department of corrections or someone else? Yesterday all the yellow shirts were absolved of the crimes associated with shutting down the airport in 2008. What a place Thailand is.

No they are not, they might be hungry, but they have been beaten down all their lives and walk away from confrontation. Next time you see one, bend down and pick up a stone and see how fast they flee.
