  1. thats very interesting, still not sort a way to release the water without flooding the people out?
  2. As you do not know the facts behind the question, I think your comment has no merit.
  3. Best to check with the local municipality (known as Amphur) where you got married to see if the divorce was registered, you can then request a copy of the divorce paper (I think it is red or green coloured) you will need this to prove that you are divorced when re marrying in Thailand. You are leaving things a bit late to do all this. I would not contact the ex, why make trouble? Maybe pay a lawyer to sort the papers? Ask Siam legal.
  4. Has anyone planted land with trees as an investment? If so what part of Isaan and what type of trees are being planted. Am thinking of buying land so local price in your area would be god to know. Thank you in advance
  5. Out of interest what is the cost of land in your area, plus where are you? We are in the south, Chumphon and land is easily one million up and if next to the sea 5 million up. Even in Ranong the land is one million up.
  6. 800 baht an hour is in the south of Ranong, am sure price is differant in Isan where land price is also so cheap compared to the south. Agree about the tractor/digger
  7. Over thinking everything. You also assume to much, people do "understanding the circumstances under which they could change", we do not show it is all. I do not think all Thais see this as a rallying point, a small portion are vocal and they are the ones the news focus on to gain more readers or followers. "As a political tool, laying a groundwork of mutual dislike and distrust" really? Was it not the actions of the Swiss man and his Thai wife who kicked this all off? (pun intended). As for the other swiss man in Trang and the Australian in BKK, are they setting a good example of expats? What about the farang who work illegal here, do they set a good example? I do not agree the goverment has undermined expats with its new tax laws, is life so difficult here? If you find it so then maybe time to move on?
  8. Apart from the first video, the Australian man, who should learn to control his temper/road rage (I do wonder if it was not a women but a man, would he act this way?). All others are illegal acts so should be arrested. Just because they are expats gives no excuse. As for being worried, I behave myself and follow the law as do most expats in Thailand, so nothing to worry about.
  9. Good price for 700 meters, if using a tractor the cost is 800 baht an hour in the south, so the cost soon adds up.
  10. yes I know he refused bail, safer on the inside? He still has to go to court to be prosecuted, I think he will get Bankok Hilton time then deported.
  11. Have you not seen the photos of what he did to the Thai lady? The Swiss man should be jailed in Thailand where I am sure he will soon regret his actions, once time is done then deport him. To say "even the Swiss do not deserve this" is imo you justifying his actions.
  12. Once deported, am sure his wife will stay to look after the elephant business,
  13. Tour operators should be arrested and their boat seized, this will send a message to all tour operators to follow the law, explain to tourists, "look do not touch" that is the best way to get the message out
  14. And now he is appealing his conviction. Not good for her mother to go through this again.
  15. Why ridiculous? did this not just happen? Now the sister has had charges dropped so will be home soon.
  16. Law abiding guys still have there guns and there are plenty out there, just not the semi automactic guns. As to who would be in charge? Who knows and the number of ordinary citizens out number the gangs.
  17. 1) Local Thai Department of Land Transport 2) Need a car pasport that proves you own the car and it is not stolen and being taken to Laos to sell. 3) Not sure on the price of the car passport 50 to 100 baht maybe. 4) People do drive in Laos on just a Thai drivers license, I was being careful with having an International drivers license in case I had an accident and then the insurance would pay 5) Because I could not get a Intl license as have not had my thai 5 year license for a complete year, I did not take my car into Laos. 6) left my car in a secure parking compond on the left hand side of the road just before the Thai border checkpoint, cost 100 baht a day. 7) Car insurance you buy for Laos on the Laos side of the border at the office. 😎 parking illegally can lead to having the car wheel clamped, seen it happen in Luang Prabang, the police did not release the car until the local paid, they did give him a receipt. What is legal parking and what isn't I do not know in Laos.
  18. NZ is part of the "Five Eyes" spy programm so may well be a target, and if you think Australia would be safe they also are part of the "Five Eyes". Saying that, being so far from the rest of the world we may have a slim chance of surviving .
  19. Can you please list these Backpacker murders? I know there have been some murders, not aware of any unsolved. Also do remember that backpacker murders happen in many countries, the first one I heard of was the Jennifer Beard backpacker murder in New Zealand in 1969, the muderer was never found. As for the Swiss man, he started this action and so will reap what he sowed, seeing him on TV giving an excuse that he thought they were Chinese, even if they were is that an excuse for acting the way he did? If you have lived in Thailand for a long time, you should know how it works, best not to go looking for trouble.
  20. You need to get paperwork from the Thai car department, where you pay your car tax, A car out passport. You need to buy car insurance on the Laos side of the border for the period the car is there. We were going to take our car but could not get an international driving license as I do not complete holding the Thai 5-year licence until July. Many people just drive over on their Thai license, I was worried if I had an accident then insurance would not pay out. Do be careful were you park, seen a car get clamped and the police did not release it until they were paid.
  21. I already noticed and added another post as I could not edit the original. Should be $114,000 a day, though I see some news outlets say $112,000 to $113,000 a day. It is still alot of money and will hit him hard in the pocket.
