  1. It's just a rough guide. I don't obsess over every last ml. You wouldn't be serious losing weight if you didn't look at your calorie intake and you wouldn't be serious exercising if you didn't keep a record of your physical effort. It's much the same with alcohol only you have much more to lose. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want to keep a note of how much of a potentially health-affecting substance they're pouring down their throat. I guess the graveyard is full of them. In any case I have a spreadsheet and it's about 10 secs a day to record. A small price to pay for staying within llimits. It's not for everyone I know but I enjoy all aspects of drinking except getting p***ed which I grew out of in my mid twenties.
  2. That's interesting. Where did you get the Vedett IPA? I've only seen the Extra White and Rosé here.
  3. Thanks. That seems cheap. I read before that someone had paid 20,000. I guess it varies.
  4. Lol. You couldn't be more wrong. Firstly I can easily do without alcohol. When I first came here I did the Buddhist Lent alcohol abstinence for 3 months at a time. I haven't done it for the last few years because my Thai partner stopped. Even so, I keep a record of my alcohol consumption and will often go days or weeks without, if I wish. I'm lucky in that I don't have a compulsive or addictive nature. Secondly, I have an extensive knowledge of beer. I know my Tripel from my Doppelbock. In just the last few years since I've been keeping records I've tasted 25 Belgian beers, 30 German, 39 Thai and a number of others. Some beers are delicious, some are awful. My quest is to find the best available. And I never get p*ssd. I do it for enjoyment Thank you for your concern though. 🙂
  5. I definitely don't drink like I used to in my youth, although I've never been a heavy drinker. Fortunately I've become more interested in flavour than volume and the advent of better beer alternatives has meant I can be more discriminate in what I imbibe, which has consequently led to lower alcohol intake. There are a number of ways you can lower alcohol consumption without going teetotal.
  6. I can't see anywhere that family history is mentioned, just information relating to the applicant and any dependents. I find that astonishing. There is a section where you can add details but again that only mentions the applicant and dependents. I would have thought that family history of heart conditions, cancer and possible genetic illnesses would be crucial but obviously not.
  7. Do they take account of family history, say, of heart disease or genetic problems?
  8. Well, clearly we are. 🙂 I do it primarily for the taste, secondarily for the appreciation and knowledge of good beers and thirdly for the social aspect. Getting "hammered" is never a consideration. That's not to say I don't enjoy that small frisson of headiness after a small amount; it can be quite enjoyable. We're all different.
  9. Indeed, as long as you stick to your alcohol limit. 6 medium glasses of Peter Vella, 220ml. each at 11 ABV would be an acceptable 14.52 units.
  10. It's not always helpful to just say 5 drinks. You need to know the ABV of the drinks and stay under the recommended level of 14 units per week. As a rule of thumb 5 large bottles of Chang at 4.8 ABV would be just over 14 units at 14.88. If you were drinking the same amount of Duvel it would be way over at 26.35 units, so ABV and volume is important. It's also important not to have over 9 units in one sitting and have a few days break after reaching the limit. Give your liver time to do it's job.
  11. This has all the hallmarks of the Sherlock Holmes story The Devil's Foot, where a group of people are found poisoned around a table, foaming at the mouth. Clue: check the lamp. ; )
  12. A return trip into town.
  13. I've got these in sequential number order. I originally thought they would be nice as birthday presents but to be honest I put them in my safe and forgot I had them. I'll just keep them.
  14. They were commemorative notes issued a few years ago. They actually issued some of them at atms. I've got a whole bunch of them in sequential numbers and mint condition. I'll hold on to them.
  15. The request for information about pension money might suggest that. If so it's something above that which has been necessary for previous extensions.
  16. O.K. but as you say the requirements are confusing. Did you clarify the points with them?
  17. I'm glad I did the main tourist destinations back in the 90's. I'd love a bit of a beach holiday now but couldn't stand anywhere too-overdeveloped.
  18. Stupid comment. You know what I was saying. I see Katie Hopkins is now all upset about no PR too. Wonder why?
  19. The Lib Dems have been campaigning for PR for 40 years or more. Now it affects Farage you're moaning about it. Who would've thought.
  20. Remember the old saying, Will. "Beer and wine and you'll feel fine. Wine and beer and you'll feel queer."
  21. Quite. So this doesn't fit. In the U.K. we've saught continuously to limit the powers of the King and the PM. This is going the other way. Even when Tony Blair decided in his wisdom to invade Iraq he had to go through Parliament. The U.S. is now leaning towards the Putin model.
  22. So if the leader of the USA is "entitled to “absolute immunity” from criminal prosecution for "official acts" will the USA extend that courtesy to foreign leaders' for "official acts" perpetrated against them? Governments and judiciaries should advocate for less power to elected leaders, not more. Isn't the U.S. Constitution primarily about limiting power?
