  1. so the tourists can have fun splashing about amongst the live wires. sanuk mak!
  2. I bought some train tickets at Hualomphong a few months back and confirm that they wanted to see ID. since I don't have Thai DL I showed my passport. BUT, I was able to buy tickets for my friend and his Thai wife by showing photos of his passport page and her Thai ID card. you can also buy train tickets online but I haven't tried that service yet. not a massive train fan. dunno about the ferry though. you'd hope no ID is required but another member has said they were required to show passport. if that's the case, hopefully a photo on phone or photocopy of PP will suffice. assuming of course that the OP took such precautions. easy to forget that sort of stuff if you're a scatterbrain like me. that's why I suggested Khao San Road, they might be a bit more flexible there. but I haven't actually tried booking any travel there recently so I could be talking out of my a®se. if OP really needs to know I guess I could head over there and find out, the craft beer at the Sheepshank is quite tasty ????
  3. racing tyres are tyres for ... wait for it .... racing! ???? fatter, wider and lower profile. possibly even a different rubber compound. for when you want to track your Rexxy or Supra on the weekends. or when an old Datto LOL. oh, and there very, very expensive.
  4. this is a sticking point, or points, for some applicants hence the "easier" comment from earlier.
  5. cheap bus from the KSR? a bit of a trek but I've done it before and survived. just don't put anything in the luggage compartment ????
  6. harping on about Thais wearing masks. makes zero sense to me.
  7. community spirit means jack to my landlord when the rent is due. as for English teaching, nope not in the slightest bit interested in it. however, some of my friends are or were English teachers so I have no issues with the profession per se. a couple of them run their own school a little bit south of here. but getting paid the ludicrously low salaries that are on offer here? now that's just nuts.
  8. rocking up to the condo can't hurt. you've got nothing to lose, not like it's in the middle of nowhere ????
  9. nope, it's done through immigration at the airport, not customs. the two are not the same.
  10. that's how you end up poor and can't afford to buy a tin of peaches ????
  11. I doubt that what you do slows the process down by a significant margin. like you said, what else do you do with the loose change except maybe dump it in one of those questionable charity boxes? at any rate, other customers hold up the line in the Seven. paying with wonky cards, stuffing around with showing their membership card, topping up their SIM card but forgetting their bloody number* pointless worrying about it, it's way she goes. jai yen yen and all that. *guilty as charged Your Majesty ????
  12. why would you do that unless they're offering a couple grand USD for your translation services? only monkeys and English teachers work for peanuts.
  13. do you reckon he was impaired by alcohol? I've done silly sh¡te like that after I've had a few. there but for the grace of God etc. drinking clouds your judgement so it's easy to forget that crossing a major road like that is like dancing with the Devil. heck, back home in South Western Sydney you have to have your wits about you just crossing a quiet suburban street. you never know when some fully sick brother in V8 Commy or a Rexxy is going to come flying out of nowhere at 100 kph.
  14. I've got better thing to do with my time. if a cabbie wants four bucks instead of three bucks for a ride across town I'm happy to oblige. old mate might get to enjoy a cold beer at the end of his shift. it's the "principal" ????
  15. yikes. sounds like you're yet to master the good old jai yen yen. I regret clicking on "show this post" ????
  16. that's not particularly difficult as far as I know. to wreck a Humvee that is. the Seppo soldiers had to buy their own armour plating to protect themselves from IEDs. should have bought the Bushmaster PMV ????
  17. spare me the morality lesson. TIT, pay or get shut down. or in a case I have personal experience with, shut your speakeasy in Pattaya when the cops tell you to or get arrested and deported LOL. this is no country for do-gooders.
  18. sounds like you need a onw-way trip back to your nanny state. I'll give you a hundred baht to help you on your way ????????????
  19. good to hear. only one more transfer and you'll be rid of those numpties forever ????
  20. no, he should use whatever address is easiest and what gets him the extension. why create a rod for your own back by slavishly following the rules to the letter?
  21. yes you can. it's only wrong if you get caught.
  22. are all those cheaper places near The Base?
