  1. You've just described Islam in one sentence. Well done!
  2. You forgot the A5 Wagyu...
  3. Lots of talk in here recently about issues with transfers from Wise to BBL, surely you know this already!
  4. We went to Mango Tree on Surawong the other week for a friend's birthday. They have something called a Pad Thai Phuket Lobster that they were charging the princely sum of ฿2,900++ for Medium and ฿3,800++ for Large. Too rich for my blood so we didn't get one. I saw one being delivered to a table and it didn't look very impressive so unless I find a hi-so girlfriend I won't be trying it any time soon.
  5. I'm from Australia where until recently separate service charges didn't exist and the 10% GST is included in the menu price. On previous trips to LOS I either never went to 'posh' places where they quote prices before service and VAT or I didn't notice. Now that I'm retired and have too much time on my hands I can amuse myself with little challenges like how to calculate my bills to the satang ????
  6. actually you gotta add 17.7% to the base price because VAT is levied on the base price plus the service charge. so normally you'd multiply the base price by 1.177 to get the total. in this case the calculation is slightly different because of the way they've discounted the happy hour drinks. they comped you the drinks but still charged service fee for them, something I've not seen before.
  7. you rail against "corruption" and label us "enablers" yet you typed your sermon on an electronic device. the corruption that's built into the capitalist supply chain far exceeds the couple of extra bucks our cabbie wanted the other night. oh let me guess, it's not corruption it's just business ????????????
  8. That's not what was said in the post I responded to. The chances of getting caught are slim to none so "don't overstay" is far too simplistic a response to such a complex matter. I'm not going to go into all the whys and wherefores as I think the OP is already aware of the pros and cons of overstaying (based on a separate thread).
  9. Correct, and then it went up from ฿500 to ฿700 at one point. I vaguely recall using a machine at Swampy to purchase the departure tax ticket and if memory serves it was cash only.
  10. Riddle me this Batman... where does Thai milk come from and don't say cows ???? Does Thailand have a domestic milk industry or is it imported/reconstituted? I'm Aussie too, New South Wales and after reading this thread I have a sudden craving for a glass of cold milk and Milo. I don't expect I'll get anything as tasty as NSW milk but near enough is good enough ????
  11. This. Or Google the problem as there will be a wider pool of knowledgeable folk than here on AN. That's not a dis it's just the facts.
  12. Are Thais really happy? They get really angry really quickly when things don't go their way eg. they try to rip you off and you tell them to their face that they're a nogoodnik. That's not a sign of true happiness imho.
  13. They're still shaving in the UK? I thought beards were compulsory now.
  14. This agency was recommended to me by a good friend who has lived here for 20 years, live used then myself and have a lot of faith in them. Caveat: you'll need a Bangkok Bank transaction account and if you don't have one they can get you one on the spot at the nearest BBL branch for ฿4,700. Most of that is to pay for a fairly limited insurance policy. It's a bit steep but that's how it works, the magic doesn't happen by itself.
