Their website is woefully out of date.

An up-to-date list of requirements would be very useful.

The official requirements are still a bank statement showing 20k bt and an onward ticket, however reports six months ago suggested people without either were sent off to get a bank statement but didnt produce an onward ticket.

After some feedback from a trip within the last month or so.

Up until a couple of years ago, it would have been foolhardy to try for a tourist visa in Kuala Lumpur at all. The situation there has definitely improved, but I would be very surprised if they would waive any of the requirements on their checklist. The only question is whether they would accept one of the cheap international bus tickets (such as from Hat Yai to Butterworth) that you can book online instead of a flight reservation.

Lowest price air tickets change almost daily. All you can do is browse the websites of the budget airlines to see what you can find.

Which website can you use for a bus ticket.?

Re air ticket , Thai Lion air have Dmk to Yangon at 1295 baht for about 60 days in advance.

Yes I know that but I'm sure I have read that you can use there payment method instead of yours I.e maybe they have a card enabling you to pay them cash?

Sent from my SM-G610F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

The company key visa in pattaya will give you that facility if using their renewal service.

Alternative is a friend with a Uk debit or credit card, use their card details for the payment form and give them the cash if you wish them to remain a friend.

Using a thai debit card, requires it being correctly set up for online payments etc.

  4. Rather than a new thread this query is posted here.

Re SETV not double because thats a pending maybe could be sometime option......

Will Savanakhet accept an upgraded Thai bank passbook copy with the account name in it, with the original passbook available if required or must they have a statement?

Also a reminder that the two Thai consulates in Laos are closed on Mon 3rd, Wed 5th and Mon 10th of December.

What a relief.  Thank you so much!

Last reports i read here were about six months ago when they didnt ask for a flight, but for sure required a bank statement.

Would be great if the OP could let us know if they do actually ask him for a flight ticket this time ?

Perhaps other members also have recent information if a flight ticket was asked for?

    Thanks.

That will not be a problem.

    Thanks Joe,

So either DMK or regional airport in Issan immigration will stamp out without question regardless of flight to Vientiane ? and the Thai consulate not bothered with the EOS issue.

If i didnt want to get a TR could i come straight back into Thailand same afternoon at Nong khai on a 30 day visa exempt, are same day out at airport back at land border runs permitted ?

Prior experience suggests that leaving by air to cancel an extension on the basis of working does work. However, it is generally recommended that both the extension of stay and the work permit be canceled formally. There are suggestions that you could have future problems with your local immigration or labor office when everything is not done by the book. One thing you would not need to worry about is the domestic flight from Isaan to Don Muang. That does not involve any contact with immigration.

Thanks, my local airport does have immigration for air asia flights to international destinations going via Don Muang on a fly through but the two legs could be booked independently.

Im hoping the fact the flight is local to Vietiane doesnt cause an issue.

Also that the Thai consulate will issue a TR visa without problems.

  8. If you have a month left to run on your B visa EOS and a land border exit would be akward due to the need for a prior extension cancellation or an employers termination letter....

Would their be any problems flying out of Bangkok DMK direct to Vientiane and returning via a land border a few days later on a tourist visa .

Concerns are receiving the exit stamp without problems at either DMK or if clearing immigration at my local Issan airport flying via Dmk to Vientiane on a fly through.

Would the Thai consulate in Vientiane issue a TR visa without any hassle.

    Thanks .

If you entered on a non-b visa and then extended the 90 day entry of it the original permit to stay would no longer be valid for stay since you would have a new permit to stay from the extension.

This I wish to clarify so if the work permit and extension of stay is issued one month into the 90 days tou have to exit immediately if employment ceases.

However if the extension of stay work and permit have not been issued even if employment ceases after 1 week you can still remain in Thailand legally for the duration of the ninety days.

So if continuation of employment is in doubt best not to do the extension of stay work permit until the last week of the B visa 90 day validity.

  10. When you have your initial B visa with your school name on it under the comments section, its my understanding that even if you quit or are fired the day after its issue and receiving the 90 day permission to stay., your entitled  to stay quite  legally for the duration of that 90 days even / though youve stopped working.

However if after one month your company/school sorts out your work permit and it is issued along with the extension  of stay for the length of your contract and after month 5 etc you quit /fired you officially have to leave the country etc .

But if you are fired/quit lets say 2 days after getting your work permit and extension of stay and for example still have 1 or 2 months left of the initial 90 day permission to stay............can you indeed do that and stay for the remaining 1or2 month legally, or will you have to leave immediately based on the fact that an extension of stay has already been issued?? regardless of the time remaining of the intial B visa 90 days permission to stay stamp.

    Many thanks

Yes if they will do it.

    Yes

Once the stamp transfer is done at an immigration office you will longer need your old passport.

Thanks Joe........ if they do it great, worth asking.

Otherwise its two passports for a few weeks one cancelled and a new one without a stamp.........and the potential for an extra hour at the border faffing about according to Sanemax aboves recent Nong khai experience.

But simple doesnt seem to be part of this process...........TIT !!!!

Indeed............an interesting debate, but I still dont know ?

Can I complete the stamp transfer and passport transfer totally, completely finished etc at local immigration or not?

Thus proceeding to the border at a later date with just one new passport and get stamped out without further Spanish inquisition procedures..........

I guess that is a tad optimistic!!

  13. 45 minutes ago, sanemax said:

The enter until stamps is not the issue . The issue is exchanging the old PP for the new one , which can only be done at a border

Sure, but if local immigration transfer the enter until date stamp into the new passport you have then transferred from old to new and the exchange is completed or not? and you simply go to the border with the new passport and get stamped out.

But simple doesnt seem to be part of this process.

I recently did it at Nong Khai

The procedure isnt done at the regular stamping out booths

They send you to the "special" guy that deals with overstays etc

You have to fill out numerous forms , photos, sign things, photo copies etc

The whole procedure took me about 45 minutes

Thanks for that, so if you have just traveled four or five hours on the bus knackered and want to get across the border with the minimum of fuss its much better to have got the enter until stamp transferred to the new passport done and dusted at your local immigration....... especially if you also want to get the Laos visa in the new passport in advance at a local consulate.

  15. So to clarify either at Mukdahan or Nong Khai, you dont go to a separate office at the bridge?

Simply join the line of people and hand over both passports and an enter until stamp and an exit stamp is put in the new passport without any confusion delay or reason to get stressed.

So going to local immigration first can or cannot be done if you are on a tourist visa extension? and would like to have your new passport up to date now rather than waiting a couple of weeks until exit time and the remote chance of hassle at the border.

  16. I have a new passport, the old full one,has one month left of a SETV  extension  stamped until 3rd of July.

Sometime in the next two to three weeks I expect to go via Mukdahan to Savannkhet for a B visa or another tourist visa at Vientianne.

In the mean time do I have to go to local immigration here in Issan to have the permission to stay extension stamp transferred to the new passport.

Or can I simply be stamped out at the border on the old cancelled passport either at Mukdahan or Nong Khai and enter Laos  and return to Thailand on the new passport.

Im hoping if the job and the B visa paperwork isnt ready or doesnt happen I can use the new passport for a couple more tourists visas without my previous visa history in the old passport being flagged.

    Thanks for advice.

As explained before, this is elective surgery. The only reason for doing it is that on balance, for an otherwise healthy person, the risk of it strangulating are higher than the risk associated with the surgery. (This equation is reversed for the very elderly and people with health conditions placing them at unusual risk for surgery).

To give you an idea, the annual risk of strangulation is about 1-2%. Risk of it in a 6 month period would be half that. So odds are 99-99.5% you will  be fine delaying the surgery. You should do it eventually (unless you have helath condition that makes you a poor operative risk) but there is no rush. Some people wait years before getting around to it, and if you had it done back home on the NHS you'd likely be made to wait 6 months or more.

In addition, your new job should provide you with insurance through the Thai  Social Security system, unless it is a private school.  This will pay the cost of the surgery in full.

Thanks Sheryl, very interesting its a hard call, seeing the extremely obvious bulge is very concerning, but in the morning after sleep it can be flat but of course sadly re-appears.

When i had the other side done 20 years ago their was nothing to see, I had know idea, but the doctor obviously did and put me on the waiting list for surgery,............so now as it is stunningly obvious I worry about ignoring it, or that it is not in fact a hernia but something else................but not sure what can be easily mistaken for an inguinal hernia? if anything? partially blocked intestine perhaps, ulcer, tumor etc?

Will try to get an ultrasound on the abdomen done and a doctors confirmation in the next week!

Re insurance with job its neither of the above, but a placement company who you officially work for, they offer not the government scheme but a very basic, well known insurer company block policy that covers non scheduled surgery to a pretty low limit but no requests for medical history information are required............guess if you went to ER in agony and ignorance they would operate and the insurers would pay up, who knows?

I would like to think a regime of a few kms daily walking etc might pull in back in and keep it under control but am reluctant to get back into an exercise program in case in worsens or something else breaks.

The inclination is to protect it,I eat so little now to avoid any gut problems which is causing dramatic weight loss and I am scared of lifting anything............. maybe ignoring it within reason is the better policy?

But did manage the visa trip albeit very cautiously so alleviated the immigration problem for a while.

    thanks for your input!!
