Or do you have a silver spoon permanently embedded where light seldom shines that you feel above all the hoi polloi. So, you feel you can be holier-than-thou. Congratulations. How wonderful for you. So who burned the bridges? Me? No! Leaving the US, or UK, or EU in order to make our fixed income stretch farther, to live a middle class life in a developing country rather than living on the dole in our own over-priced, urban-ghettos where the gentrified pretend to be scraping by on their trust funds, inheritances, and endowments, or family businesses which mommy and daddy willed to them? - that's burning bridges? The bridge is still there dear dudes - but cross it and you're immolated by the cost of living, by the Machiavellian rules and regulations, and if you happen to look down and out or poor or a street person in your transition back from getting off the plane at home while trying to reestablish a life - if a cop shoots you for acting strange - you die, he's acquitted, and who cares. You frightened him so he had cause to riddle you with bullets.
Thailand is not the 'end-all'. It's a place who's usefulness as an expat retirement haven and a place to raise a Thai family may be reaching its end.
But there are you who believe you're better than the rest of us - which is a very Thai cultural imperative - "I'm higher than you, and you are lower than dirt." The trouble is - I'm not Thai. I don't buy into it. I don't give a damn who you think you are. And to paraphrase Lee Marvin in the Professionals,'You may consider me a bastard, but you sir, are a self-made man.'
Try some empathy. It's good for the soul.Excellent post ...........the Im alright Jack self righteous brigade on here are bewildering.

There was a recent announcement about Tourist Visa's 2 for 1 and no limit on Border crossings plus re-entry permits so those with a TV can maintain it if they travel to another country and back again during their vacation - all very positive sensible things to encourage people to visit here - improving flexibility - I see no reason why expats who comply with the rules will not be treated equally well, those that don't comply - well I have no objections to them being dealt with.
One issue remains though - the current strength of the Thai baht is putting a lot of people off who are now going elsewhere for their annual holidays
Yes those favorable changes which would have encouraged tourism and relaxed the rules a little were the subject of a Thai visa Breaking News headline article back in November.............
Somehow the proposed changes which were a help rather than a hindrance have not been implemented, probably because they dont suit the current get tough stance and ignore common sense policies.

To apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry at immigration you need financial proof. If using the 800k baht in the bank option you have to show proof the funds came from abroad. See: https://www.immigration.go.th/content/service_80
Then after getting the 90 day entry you could apply for the extension of stay during the last 30 days of it. The 800k baht would have to be in a bank for 2 months on the date you apply.
Thanks for the response.
if applying for the O retirement at Savannakhet what exact financial evidence do you need ?
I presume 800k baht on a bank statement form the day before etc........or does it need to have been on the account for any prior period of time.?

er Thailand on a visa exempt or a tourist visa, and apply for a non immigrant entry at your local immigration office based on your intention to later apply for one-year extensions, as above. This last option is often referred to as "conversion".
Thanks for the extensive explanation.
Re the conversion, what would be the initial requirements at immigration and what length of permission to stay would you receive? I presume 90 days, then required to submit the full financial proofs etc for a years extension.

Thanks for the report so can you just show 20k in cash or they after a bank statement?
I applied one month ago with all the paperwork, bank statement; cash NOT accepted.
Air ticket available if required.
The bank statement is mandatory and advisable to have an outbound air ticket,
They count tourists visa already issued in the area, now after three in a row it may be a refusal.I was advised if i required a fourth i would need to provide some documents to support my current medical tourism.

I have had two Mutlu entire visa on retirement from savannahkept over the last 3 1/2 to 4 years you leave Thailand every 90 days and if you leave Thailand on the last day and return that day you will get another 90 days and don't ask any questions as I am sick and tired of the bull shit and leaving after 15 years on the 3 of April
interesting being told in this thread their isnt a Savannakhet issued O retirement visa with multi entries border hops for a year...........just one 90 day single entry visa requiring extension at local extension for 12 months.
Was it a perhaps a marriage visa ?
-
Just in case i am wrong, what is the exact financial requirement for the initial O visa application from Savannakhet.
is it as i quoted before .. 800k or equivalent on a bank statement from the day or so before applying not having to have been on the account for a period of time?
-
OK to get clarification:
The O visa based on retirement issued at Savannakhet.
Requires initial non seasoned bank statement showing 800k at the time of application.
it provides a 3 month visa with a single entry of 90 days.
A further 12 months extension is issued at local immigration with associated financial circus nonsense.
The O visa based on marriage and requiring no financials is 12 months validity with max 90 days stays before requiring a border hop and has a potential for 15 months use.

In the link is a short report stating that a 90-day Non-O immigrant visa and 12 month extension based on retirement for a total of 15 months was issued in Savannakhet in January 2019. The poster had proof of retirement in the form of a UK State Pension, bank book, bank letter, and used the combo method with properly seasoned funds. (90 day reports are to be made in Thailand like any other retirement extension - no border runs.)
just read this, thanks.........but it implies the poster did in fact get a 12month 0 A visa from Savannakhet which requires a border hop every 90 days and he didnt do a 12 month extension at his local immigration after the first entry.

The visa based on retirement gives you one entry valid for 90 days. There is no 12 month visa available in Savannakhet based on retirement.
ok a tad confused ... so you receive an initial 90 day permission to stay, then within that time you apply at your local immigration with the required financial proof and get a 12 month extension?
You are not in fact doing border runs every 90 days for a new stamp?
-
OK so the visa is valid 12 months, with each entry 90 days, which could be used for nearly 15 months...... and no need to maintain funds for further proof,or immigration trips other than 90 days reporting.
The initial 800k I presume just has to show on a bank statement for the day before submitting the paperwork at Savannakhet and doesnt need to have been in the account for set time period prior?
It is what it is ..........however why having proved your funds and got your visa based on retirement, are you forced to leave every 90 days as a stipulation...........what benefit is that to Thailand? maybe a logical reason behind it i am missing.
-
Does this Non O retirement visa give you an initial full 12 months permission to stay?, or do you have to extend it at your local immigration within 3 months with the full proof of income or deposited funds circus?

What a self righteous plonker!, that was the sugar coated version.
Why would you assume the Op is working illegally?

Maybe i have got this wrong?
In two days time you must have an appointment for a visa, but as of now their isnt a functioning website to book your time.
Perhaps someone at thai visa could email the consulate on behalf of its members asking for an update.

Rather than starting a new topic adding to this old relevant one.
Today went to my normally very user friendly Issan I.O. to extend a SETV by 30 days, however got a new lady who required proof of address which i didnt have and something that in all previous extensions has never been requested.
Other staff member known to me after a lot of faffing about and exasperation took over my case and extension granted.
So this is apparently a new rule or an old one being enforced but a suprise and worth taking address proof for any extensions now.

I thought the moderators had a duty to delete nonsense posts.?
So why is this complete garbage topic still here?

Maybe a new thread with latest info only or reports from Vientiane would help people.
Save wading through this ever growing 12 pages which can be kept for those who truly wish to debate the rights or wrongs.

Not yet in fact, 2 months or more away for Chinese and possibly 4 months or more for Brits.
So just like the Breaking wind Thai visa news item three weeks ago.
Double entry tourist visas and unlimited visa exempt entry stamps.
But not a clue when or if? despite the great fanfare.

Their are bookable bus tickets to Cambodia for circa 800 bt.
If you have bank statements etc and the right humble attitude they probably wont ask for a ticket.
It would be helpful to have some recent feedback, but appears not to be available.
-
Wow suprised this wasnt a highlighted in red breaking wind news item ....click bait special.
Four obscure countries added to the free list, yet the the double entry tourist visa and 30 days unlimited changes announced here three weeks ago, still not implemented.
Inmates running the asylum.
Next week the news that this has again increased tourism figures by 20%.

Their website is woefully out of date.
An up-to-date list of requirements would be very useful.
The official requirements are still a bank statement showing 20k bt and an onward ticket, however reports six months ago suggested people without either were sent off to get a bank statement but didnt produce an onward ticket.
After some feedback from a trip within the last month or so.

Just buy a cheap Air Asia ticket and reclaim airport tax when you miss flight.
Costs about 160 baht.
Cheapest bookable ticket I found was 1295 bt, Thai Lion to Rangon.
It may well be the cost i pay for avoiding the extra mayhem of Vientiane... with two closures next week it could be very busy.
-
Has anyone in the last few weeks acquired a SETV and were they actually asked for an onward flight ticket??
Trying to miss the Ghandi crowd scenes of Vientiane, and much prefer Savannakhet if I can avoid the purchase of an outbound ticket.
Latest reports appreciated.
Thanks

He mentioned in his initial video that he had enough money although it would lower his savings.
Thats unfortunate, i need various medical treatments myself pretty soon that will seriously deplete my reserves, perhaps a go fund me page is the way to go.
In reality no one forces anyone to donate,so if you do help, guess you are happy doing so.
