  1. Maybe better to avoid immigration,

As soon as you finish work your extension is not valid and should be cancelled and you must leave the country immediately or pay for a seven day extension, then leave and if coming back have an alternative visa or thirty day stamp.

But in reality if you leave at an airport within the time frame you mentioned you will simply be stamped out without a problem, they wont be interested in termination letters etc.

Leaving via a land border they often ask for the cancellation and termination letter, at the airports they are not interested.

  2. interesting could find myself in this situation early next year.

So you hold a non 0 retirement and years extension and multi entry permit all issued at immigration.

You then decide to teach again, apply for a B at a local consulate re enter from Laos ..on the retirement visa but with a fresh non B in your passport.

However your job doesnt work out and you leave before the B is extended or work permit is issued.

Can you remain in country within the 15 months validity of the original non O and retirement extension?

Is it a case of you need more time, or you don't have the required 800K.

I assume you are over 50 years of age.

I dont immediately want 800k dormant in a Thai bank account!

Also being gouged by an local agent to convert to a non O from a tourist visa is somewhat annoying.

Hence the possible option of converting to a non O in Savanakhet if i can meet the requirements.

Seems like you applied for a medical visa and thus will have to provide evidence of this .

Maybe you wouldnt have got red stamped , had you just applied for a tourist visa

No i didnt apply for a medical visa,my application was standard  SETV with outbound ticket, bank statement etc and medical applied too tourism on the bottom of the form since i was waiting to do an operation,

the visa was approved giving me a total of three, 1 from Vientiane and 2 from Savanakhet, she remarked that if i wanted number 4 as in three in a row from Savannakhet i would require more than the bank statement outbound ticket etc and some additional paperwork re medical would be required.

I was not red stamped as this is not a policy of Savanakhet Thai consulate.

ou may have other options in your predicament, but although you've stated you are unmarried to your female partner, you stated you had two children.

Are the children yours and have you been legalised as the father of those children

thanks but no i didnt state i had two kids lol..................not me.

Yes not married........and re previous as of this morning turns out nothing is simple re hassle free agent route .hence exploring options.

Do you think Savannakhet will give me a tourist visa if I go there next year? I don't have any from there in my current passport.

I had 1 setv from Vientiane and 1 setv from Savanakhet .

So applied for my 2nd SETV from Savanakhet which i received ok for a total of 3 in laos non elsewhere.

The staff lady remarked that i would have problems with a 3rd from Savannakhet without a lot of documentation to support my medical tourism i had written on the form,

So seems 3 in the laos area is ok but number 4 could well be a problem.

My previous history was non B visas.

  7. Perhaps a kind soul knows?

What are the complete requirements for the initial 90 day Non 0 based on retirement, obtained from Savanakhet. for a British national.

Re financials is it 800k baht or equivalent in any bank anywhere ...with a simple bank statement from a day or so before travelling to Laos, does it matter how long the money was on the account etc.

    What other documentation is requested.?

    thanks

Personally I would never use an agent for something I can do myself for a fraction of the cost.

I agree, i am balancing options..........the availing myself of, unlocking funds etc in my personal circumstances could be just as costly, as well as a lot of hassle. in view of my current visa time restraints.........as paying for a service.

However the service does need to be stress free and simple, paying up but still having to jump through hoops is my concern..........but this is Thailand! I we shall see!

It's not a vignette such as an Embassy would issue.

It's a rubber inked stamp as Joe explained.

Step 1. Apply for the conversion from a VE or TV entry to a Non O, supplying all documents and financial proof. The application will be considered and can take up to two weeks to be approved.

Step 2. Return for the Non O stamp after your application is approved.

Step 3. Within the last 30 days of the 90 granted by the Non O, apply for the 1 year extension providing financials and documents again.

For the purpose of retirement, the extension is issued on the day of application provided your documents are in order. Immigration should not keep your passport at any stage.

Through an agent, they will keep your Passport for the duration, which is usually only 2/3 days, to get the Non O stamp and the 1 year extension, usually inclusive of a multi re-entry permit, almost simult from 25 - 40K.

    Thanks! a great comprehensive reply.

Re the agent ..if they were connected to the internal workings as such ......I presume it could be turned around in a day if the wheels have been adequately lubricated.

  10. Holding a SETV with two weeks left of a month extension.

Can this be converted to a full years retirement visa by an agent,or showing the funds and going to local immigration, without first having to go to the consulate in Laos and applying for the non 0.

Also could a thirty day entry stamp with a week or so left also be converted to a years retirement with appropiate greasing of wheels or funding?

    .

  11. Their is a minivan around 3pm to 3.30pm takes about 4 hours.

Also a decent vip air con bus with Phetprasert tours that goes at 3-30pm  and about 4hours,also same company vip bus at 5pm into khon kaen circa 9-30pm.

    http://www.phetprasert.com/

The two vip bus options are much more comfortable and relaxing than the mini van.

Regular buses go every hour or so but no toilet and stop many times.

    All from Mukdahan bus station.

Makes my blood boil when I read this drivel. Everybody must suffer, not, with a booze ban that has absolutely no hope of working.

How about, effective immediately, all Police go out patrolling and anyone caught drink driving, immediate 2 years in prison and car/bike is crushed!! That might make people think twice about DD over Sonkran. Everyone else can enjoy themselves.

The authorities never look at the root of holiday carnage which is quite simply an ineffective Police force.

A zero tolerance of drinking and driving as above would do the trick, designated drivers etc.

While they are at it, could be a zero tolerance of assaults or blatant scams on tourists by public service workers such as the Phuket taxi drivers, jet ski <deleted>, etc a minimum jail term and loss of licence or ban from the tourist industry.

But with lunatics running the asylum common sense is in short supply and corruption rules!

Just banks' implementation/interpretation  of Bank of Thailand rules.  Thailand tightly controls the outflow of funds, but not the inflow.  Land of Smiles for incoming funds; Land of Frowns for outgoing funds.

Generally, BOT rules allow a farang to repatriate their salary which means they have/need a work permit, repatriate funds they earlier transferred into Thailand but they usually need documentation to prove they transferred the funds into Thailand like to live on or buy a residence, and various other reasons.  And of course each bank seems to have it's own view on how to implement the rules....kinda like how various immigration offices implement immigration rules/laws differently.

Thanks for the clarification, so i could be forced to empty my account by cash withdrawal at will, use super rich to convert to my home currency and take it with me, rather than a civilised transfer.

if you dont have a work permit because you are not working how can a bank stop you doing exactly as you please with your own money ........its incredulous!
