I took a flight from Bangkok to Khon Kaen recently. I was the only white guy on the plane. After the air hostess went through the emergency drill, she came over to me and started talking English, saying she had to give me the instructions. I said that I had just observed them and she stated that by law she had to tell me in English. I pulled out my Thai ID card and told her I was Thai, what an embarrassment. I have a good mind to complain to the airline for racial discrimination.

Most are old guys. There used to be young ones but they were all banned.

Yeah, perhaps 'some' is more accurate. I rarely see farang being nasty to Thais, but I often see farang being culturally insensitive to Thais, just yesterday saw one hugging his caddy after finishing a round, Often see farnang touching caddies, which is totally offensive. Often see farang with inappropriate body language, raised voices etc. I guess they are new here and haven't figured out the indirect communication style yet, or 'greng jai' etc.

Karma is a complex law, or maybe that should be theory? Depends on where you were raised, I've seen enough Karmic consequences to believe. I am Scottish/Thai, and spent exactly half my live in both countries. Interestingly, I was reading a Thai book, "The Law of Karma Is Always Fair" by Benjawan Poomsan about "jâo-gam-naai-ween", or 'spiritual creditors. If they come into your life, should you deal with them to cancel the 'debt' or avoid them? Nowadays, it's so easy to block people online, but moving house or job is not quite so easy, and even if you do, will another one come to claim the debt? "People that come into your life are your jâo-gam-naai-ween เจ้ากรรมนายเวร, or, in other words, the people to whom you have done wrong to in a previous life, or even in this current life. "Everybody has their own jâo-gam-naai-ween.Some people may have many, and some only a few. "We have unpaid debts, or atonement, that need to be resolved from our previous lives. "These souls have hatred, a feeling of malice and revenge, which needs to be released, by getting back at you. Firstly, I am not looking for anyone to take my beliefs seriously. I thought I would just state my beliefs, as this thread is mostly populated by respectful, intelligent members. Personally, I don't know what animals have a soul or not but have my belief which is somewhere between Hinduism and Buddhism, as I understand them. My opinion - human beings have a soul, which is subject to the laws of Karma and is incarnated in new bodies. This soul goes to the 'soul world' (where the supreme soul[God] resides) in between bodies. Other sentient beings also have souls, but on a different level to humans and are incarnated as that species. I don't believe human souls can be incarnated as animals, the number is finite, the soul is infinite yet an infinitesimal point of light, never created and never destroyed. Human souls are what some Hindus might call 'Brahman' while animal souls might be 'Atman'. Human souls consist of mind, intellect and Sanskaras(impressions), while ants and other insects don't have this.

Are you now suggesting I am not intelligent? Jeez, first you suggest I would be embarrassed for believing what I do, and now this! Are you suggesting also that being sensitive is somehow something to feel sorry about? I certainly think being sensitive to others criticising my spiritual beliefs is nothing to be be ashamed about.
