  1. Homemade soup with potato, pork, corn, carrots, peas.....Eggs & bacon & toasted home baked garlic/oregano bread....Bok choi dish on the side Nonfat milk.....
  2. You alluded to, yes - you did not directly cite, as relating to the topic....
  3. Where do you see myriads of shirtless people.....I don't see them in the rice fields or orchards, or as other workers..... There is one guy a couple of streets away that waters his front yard garden shirtless....He has a few dozen orchids & flowers hung at about 9 feet that he stands underneath using his water wand..... I'm about the only paleface in my area & I just don't see people out and about shirtless, or sitting outside.... I use to live centrally between 3 villages away from any type of organized shopping areas (in the sticks) = not 90-80-70-60-50-40-30-20 or 10%.....Very infrequent & usually very close their house..... Even the nightly gathering of alcoholics didn't.....
  4. The drivers/riders leave their license at the gate, securing who enters.....They make their drop off, get their ID & go.... Same with tradesmen, water trucks, etc....
  5. It goes against Thai societal norms & not acceptable - but you would probably get a farang "pass"..... You won't be well received or regarded.....Off the scale lo-so....
  6. Is the name of the Mubaan....There are other Mubaans close by, but I don't remember the names....Hang Dong market would be the largest local landmark.... I do have the phone number for the lady that manages many of the properties there & the surrounding areas if anyone is interested they can message me....She speaks English....
  7. Rung Arroon is less a kilometer away from 4 7/11's....2-3 k away from Kad Farang with Rim Ping, KFC, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Wine Connection, DQ, Aunties Pretzels, & many other western, (Vietnamese, Korean), and Thai choices, as well as the Premium Outlet Mall.... Dukes too....Hang Dong Market is about 1k away & HD Big C-2 is about 3 miles away = all good resources..... It's a user friendly area.... Besides Rung Arroon, there's 3 or 4 other Mubaans clustered close by....
  8. Google Perfect Homes, Chiang Mai.... You can plug in what you are looking for & listed homes meeting your criteria will show up.... You should be able to find what you want for 14-19k.....We had a 4 bdrm 2.5 bath for 13k.... The real trick is to contact the local Thai Mubaan gals that handle the houses in their Mubaan..... Stay away from local farang realtors.... They'll have you paying double or more.... Perfect Homes does have some farang staff but their website is a helpful resource to check different areas, etc.
  9. Try Rung Arroon & Lanna Pinery in the Mae Hia - Hang Dong areas....
  10. Honey - makes me think of my daughter Dani (rip) Old Shep by Elvis - always made my Mom cry.... Almost by Elvis - a truely unselfish love I let slip/sent away....
  11. They take those cruise ship jobs & hotel, travel industry as a way out and send money back to the family ..... There's a cottage industry in the PI where the family has to pony up the money for their relative to take a one or two year course with the veiled promise that if they good enough they will be placed when/if work is available..... It's kind of a lottery shot for them - but for many families it's the only hope of promise they have.....
  12. If someone doesn't know of the levels and interworking of hierarchy there....The roles and position that the NPA fills - just for starters, they don't know enough to be there....JZ is right on.... It's a desperate country filled with desperate people.....The people are not as happy go lucky as many here seem to think..... I've have had long term experience there & nothing could make me want to go back.... Somewhere, long ago on TVisa I broke every facet of it down on a thread like this... It's just not worth the effort to rinse & repeat every time this subject pops up.....
  13. Yes, if they care about you they make sure to guard you.....No matter where you go.... Also notice females do not go out solo - especially after dark....The ones that have cars hire drivers for safety.....
  14. I bought both pans & the covered pot..... Talked them up to the wife = used about 3 times..... They're somewhere around here ...
  15. Been there, done that while watching the rear deck almost swamp blowing open the under bench life jacket stowage & sweeping life jackets out into the sea..... Having have owned a decent sized boat I THINK I would have read & ridden the swells differently....But not being on the upper deck, I didn't view what the pilot was seeing.....Plus the effects of of a shallow bottomed sea....
  16. The most used is a steel 14"? wok with a handle....No coatings.... I use my bread maker more than anything else, the pan does have a Teflon coating.... I just step back & let the 3 gals do their thing.... It's amazing what comes out of that little kitchen....Thai or western..... There's a very large cabinet with cooking pans, pots, utensils, and appliances + more I have stashed for bbq in a metal outside cabinet....Including a George Foreman grill & a pressure cooker..... About 90% goes unused.... The wok remains king & they use it for cooking things I'd never have thought about being prepared in a wok....
  17. Big engine & total vehicle weight at 2200 pounds of which 754 pounds were the hemi engine..... Very quick & very fast.....
  18. Time to switch away from your camo wardrobe....
  19. 56 Chevy - 61 TR3 I barrelled , jetted, & cammed - 53 Studebaker pick up I put a Chrysler hemi in (a fast beast at 2218#) - 64 Malibu SS convertible 300/327 4spd..... On the mc side a Honda 160 before they stepped up to larger bikes & Ducati 250 hill/flat track bike at the same time.....The brakes & shifters were opposite on each bike, making for some interesting mini-moments.....
  20. OP Congratulations if you have gone 3 weeks without alcohol... That's a great jump start on a positive life change decision...... Keep up the good progress.....
  21. I'm guessing it's only limited as far as you can stretch your imagination....
  22. A very real assessment by somebody that has real time in there.... I have spent years there & I cannot find one good reason for going back..... It's a desperate place filled with desperate people..... Right down to the groups of urchins that walk in circles hitting your vehicle with their fists at traffic lights. (the traffic lights that haven't had the wiring stripped out of them yet).....
