Zero experience raising a child.
Always anxious that I have enough cash to support a family.
Can and do live outside Bangkok on 50k for everything for two people including rent, some trips and saving for big ticket items. Two people who are nonmateria!istic, drink very little and no vices. A car is the most expensive thing we do.
So for that type of lifestyle how much extra does a child cost on average a month?

Thanks for all info.

Yea, reading it again I see that I should have said degree certificate.
I mean the actual paper certificate is in the uk.
-
I am 50. Uk citizen. Taught english for 15 years in the past but nothing in last 5 years. I am reasonably presentable and socially skilled.
My UK degree cert is in the UK. I would be willing to work in rural locations.
Do I stand any chance of finding work? Salary is not that important.
Many thanks.

Yes, jesimps, thatsbasicallywhat i should have said.
Im looking for a kanchanaburi like setting, minus the bridge of course lol, without the over commercializatipn. But not totally devoid of life.
-
After several different tries Ive found what I am looking for. Well almost. 555
Kanchanaburi.....quiet town with some nature just about left ( the bit by the river) cheap local food and fruit, a decent bar with good live music, another with prem league football, a nice river thats got a few kingfishers and other birds to look at, and a few expats to talk to.
But, hottest part of thailand, most farang there seem to be there for the girls and bars with hookers are really not my thing at all.
So,a kanchanaburi with a bit of life but without tne sleaze. Any recommendations?

I fear the fact that all paochers managed to get were a few squirrels shows depressingly how muchwildlife is left in these parks.
-
Ah! So outof curiosity where did ou guys choose to live?
-
Wow, great reply.????
Those prices recent? They seem unbelievable after Bangkok.
-
No car.
Never ridden a scooter.
How easy and costly is it to get around?
Im thinking of studying thai at the ymca. Go to live music pubs a few nights a week. Hopefully meetup a future friend for coffee and a chat. Join an expat group or two. Chess anyone?????
Love walking, would consider a bicyle as that was my transport many years in Japan. I fear taxis (cost) would deter me from going out as much as id like
Is the above lifestyle doable in CM without spending a lot on transport?

If you have 800k in your account, spend 600k over the year, top up to 800k near retirement visa renewal time, will the fact that you didn't spend it all work against you?
Also what interest rate can you get on the 800k these days?

Are you codependent?
Google it if you don't know what it means.

Wow, just read it all. By inexperienced I actually mean a few hours on a bike on empty roads in Japan. Lol
I think I'll be driving a car.

Very inexperienced but always cautious rider. Never takes risks on the bike. Daytime riding. Always under the speed limit.
Am I signing my own death certificate?

Actually it's kinda better than I thought.
Music wise don't need professionals just talented guys on stage.
BACC is hit and miss, but I've seen some great photography exhibitions there as well as some art.
-
Bangkok has regular classical music concerts and the Bangkok art and culture centre. Good range of foreign (non Hollywood) films too. The saxophone pub and other decent local live music venues.
How does CM compare?

Op. I'm asking in a polite way.
You can well afford it you say. So what the hell were you thinking of marrying a single mom? Successful rich guys in a poor country should be getting the cream, not the left over spilt skimmed milk.

Op, I'm from a similar working class background, similarly educated and with similar psychological issues.
In my younger days I didn't know how to love, I couldn't feel comfortable with people so my refuge, like a lot of westerners was in "thinking." Always asking why and usually coming up with a reasonable answer.
I've spent 25 years in Asia and experienced this type of situation many times. Blown away by their emotional simplicity, overwhelmed by their loving kindness. If only we could talk more.
The relationships have worked better when I have had friends and not tried to turn my girlfriend into my best male buddy too.

I think you should address your mental health issues first.

If you're not the dynamic type, and 90% of us are not. Then chances are that money will last you 5 months trying to start a new life in Asia and then you'll be broke.
If you need some fun times before sorting yourself out for the long term, I'd put 2k aside to be my "start again money" enjoy 2 months in SE Asia, working holiday visa in Australia, 2 months in SE Asia, working holiday visa in NZ, 2 months SE Asia, working holiday in Canada.
Work hard and don't spend much money and you'll come out of the three years having "lived" matured and financially better off than you are now.
By 30 you want to be doing a variation of one of these three things. Training to be a plumber if you are good with your hands, training to be a programmer if you like working with your brain, training to be a policeman if you are good with people.
If in the next three years you discover a passion you never knew you had great. But otherwise you need to be earning a decent salary to set yourself up for the hardships of later life. ( They will come)

Sounds great.
Is that 10 mins walk to jatujak park?
Do you mind saying how much you pay and how many mtrs?
5 hours ago, Aussieroaming said:I live in Saphan Kwai...
BTS less than 30 second walk from condo entrance
MRT is 7- 10 minutes walk and a big wet marketat the same location
Local Wet market about 2 minutes walk from condo
Big C about 2 minutes walk from condo
Huge amount of restaurants close by
Chatuchak Park for running - 10 mins to park entrance
Chatuchak weekend market and JJ Mall is a max 10-15 min walk away, depending on which way you go and which entrance you use
Union Mall 10 min taxi ride or 2 x MRT stops
Ari 1 BTS stop away in one direction and Mochit the same in opposite direction
Siam is 7 BTS stops away i think, might be 6
Suits me but BKK still isnt the best place to live

Really? I need a 30m studio. Within 10 minute walk with a nice Thai community feel. Bustling food street kind of thing.
I wonder the same thing myself. It may be hard to live outside Bangkok.

Wow, thanks for all the ideas.
I mean 15k for accommodation. 50k budget overall.
Jogging is what keeps me sane in a Thai city.
All I really need in life is a nice condo with a nearby park, lovely coffee shop, and a couple of expat friends. I will explore ☺
-
I like living in the centre of a city very close to a large park. Lumpini is fabulous. But my 15k budget won't get me near it.
So I'm wondering if any other city has a large park in its centre with apartments a walkable distance.
