  1. Phimai is a great 2 day trip in my eyes.

4 hours on a bus from Bangkok.

Bus drops you off in the center of a small town.

Cheap guesthouse (350 bt) 2 minutes away.

Great, old temple 2 minutes away. Think of it as Angkor Wat minus the Angkor :)

Really nice museum 5 minutes away.

Lovely coffee shop and local market right there too.

Anyone have any other place to recommend?

  2. I have only seen a few units a couple of years ago. Horribly laid out 1 bedroom places that looked like a show box.

Then, yesterday I saw what I consider to be the perfect 52m2 1 bedroom place.

New place in Ladprao. I just fell in love with the design and the layout made 50m2 feel like a home not a box. Pretty high quality build I thought..though i know nothing about these things. Fully furnished for about 4.8 million.

    I like Ladprao area, but its not a must. My question essentially is;

Are there many well designed places 300 meters away from a MRT or STYTRAIN in a lively area for a similar price? Or have I found something rare that suits me?

If any one has seen Issara at Ladprao and seen something similar I would love to hear their comparisons.

5 million is a lot of baht for me, so I hope to make the right choice.

  3. Who knew M n S were so reasonable!!!! Will be paying them a visit.

Took note of the diesal jeans too.

And the guy that said looking the part will go a long way in Thailand; I have to agree, thats why I am making an effort.

Would like to wear shirts but fearful that even the 5 minute walk to the station will have me looking like I took a swim in the klong.

Oh and the clothes I buy in uk will be for Thailand. Dont really care what I look like in blighty to tell the truth. lol

  4. I know there are a few well informed posters on this forum regarding training. Hopefully one of you guys can help. :)

    I am 43. 180cm. 79kg.

I do push ups and sit ups and jogging most days.

I want to add 3kg but obviously in a good way.

I definitely want the firm and toned look rather than the big look.

Actually I used to be lean 82kg and toned in my 30's but now I do the same exercise routine and seem to have lost a bit of muscle mass. (aging I know)

Better to exercise every day which burns the fat..i like it as i now find it much harder to keep a 6 pack.

But is it better to get to the gym 3 times a week?

Basically I remember one piece of advice from years back; exercise every day for tone or every other day for growth.

I guess in a nutshell...can I 'tone' myself up to 82kg or do I need more?

  5. I wouldnt mind betting a single trip into the jungle would carry a higher risk of catching malaria. If the op had said he had been to kao yai would the same posters have posted for god sake get yourself to a doctor?

I don't think so. And even if he had been rodgering away like a spring hair the odds hardly turn it into playing russian roulette does it?

  6. Again thaivisa produces awful advice based on spurious stats.

All the posters saying, "go get an aids test" do you have any idea what you are talking about?

According to the CIA world fact book Thailand has a HIV rate of 1.3%

According to other research the chances of a male being infected from a single sexual encounter with a girl HIV positive is 1 in 1000. (higher if she had her period, but of course she got pregnant so it can't of been)

So we are talking about 1 chance in 100,000 that he got HIV. Based on one sexual act of course.

Why are so many westerners so fearful of everything and don't understand just how small the risks are?

  7. Returning to England for a holiday. Its time to really update my clothes. Average western build.

43 years old, I want to make the best of myself.

No desire for brand names, I guess I am on a budget. 1500bt (30 GBP) for jeans, 500 for t shirt, 1000 for shirt, 2000 for shoes etc seems about right.

I am a terrible judge of quality of materials etc so if any one who does can suggest which country is the better bet for the clothes I am looking for I appreciate it.

If Bk is better which place to look? If England same question?

I know I am a retard when it comes to shopping for clothes. I have spent far more time in book shops. :)

  8. Yea, what is it with this place sometimes?

When I lived in England I (like millions of others) struggled to make new friends at one point in my life and wondered the best way to go about it.

Social isolation is the problem of the modern age, but I guess all the posters who have replied so far have such sparkling personalities and fantastic social lives that they are unaware of this.
