  1. And the outcome of the electoral commissions findings. The same electoral commission in the news a day or 2 ago for allegedly rigging chonburi or satthahips results.
  2. How to deal with scam callers in Thailand... Scam caller= Wadee kaa bla bla bla bla bla bla bla Me= huh? What r u talking about. Scam caller= mung bla bla bla "Click" 555
  3. The thing about phuea thai is they were only doing well because they were the original first and only populous party. Then these guys came along with the better, clearer policies and new ideas. I really hope they pull it off. Winning this is half the battle. Next they have to run over a minefield avoiding everything the military and royalists throw at them. To get to his chair. Then they have to put their money where their mouth is and do what they promised. I don't imagine they can do much worse than the previous junta though. Future is bright.
  4. Thanks i guess that may be the reason. As in other countries or mine at least you typically don't have hundreds of 125cc bikes in underpasses. Logic has been found
  5. I completely agree and i normally preach the same. If you try to understand things you will go crazy. Best not to bother. However, after living here ten years the temptation to find the logic in these things has been bugging me. As it may be me that is missing something that is plain to see
  6. 2 things Firstly - Underpasses. For example the ones on the big bypass road running all down the center of Phuket. No motorbikes allowed. No No No! Very bad! Cannot! What do people think about this? Anyone have a rational explanation of why in other countries it is fine to ride a bike through an underpass but in Thailand it is illegal. I used to ignore it sometimes to avoid the 3 minute red lights above and because I can't see any reason in my brain whatsoever. I got pulled up about 6 months ago. Copper waiting at the exit of one of them. He was saying in Thai "many many people die" riding through underpasses. Even hearing the words come out of his mouth I just cannot imagine many many people dying all the time in them or them being significantly more dangerous than the already ultra dangerous roads everywhere else. Anybody have the solution to this puzzle? For me the biggest thing going through my mind with underpasses is don't overtake and be extra careful and maybe the thing will collapse on my head. Second - The distinction everywhere between "big bikes" and the rest. I can understand how for licencing this can be relevant as they have more power and take more skill to ride. The separate car parking. I think comes down to the hierarchical culture in Thailand where every part of society there needs to be an option for "I'm better than you". Think the VIP area in buses, boats, banks, cinemas, pi + nong, parking, seating. The list goes on. I'm kind of answering my own question here but would like to hear peoples thoughts and opinions. There is a road near my workplace that cars are allowed to drive down. Scooters are not allowed. However, if you're on a crappy CBR 250 then you're allowed to pass. Is there any logic to be found here?
  7. Totally agree. It's pretty simple. "Oh the poor motorbike rental lady" tough s**t. Sell pad thai or something. Realistically the motorbike rental market would shrink by about 80% if they only rented to tourists with motorbike licenses. The taxis would have a field day. Another thing is the condition of the bikes being rented. Often bald tyres or dodgy engine or brakes. Really though as someone else said people need to take responsibility for themselves.
  8. A "system" like police doing their job enforcing road law would really help. It's a strange concept but whenever I've rented vehicles in Australia they ask for a licence.
  9. The vests cost around 35-40,000 baht. Saw one for sale online once.
  10. When will the phasing out of these neanderthals be complete? During covid they were crying poor us. I really hoped they might learn from it. Here we are again though with the same issues. The fact that they can sit on an armchair all day on the street doing nothing and be financially ok means nothing will ever change. They just need to do 1 or 2 overpriced fares per day and they have already made the minimum thai wage. No skills or any kind of real work needs to be done. Just sit around ripping people off and making the country look bad. I give it 10 years max and the apps will have phased them out
  11. I don't disagree and experience the same things everyday. However I find their riding habits much more predictable than a shirtless tourist with no helmet and sunnies who looks like he's just got on a ride at the show. I feel overtaking them is a risk as they are completely oblivious to what's going on around them half the time.
  12. Regardless of if it was weed or not I support the legalisation of weed but where is the support for addicts when it becomes a problem? For some people or can be incredibly hard to stop even if you want too and there's no filter for that at the moment.
  13. Theres an endless stream of these stories. I don't think it's right to assume that every tourist is inexperienced riding. However lots are and when i see tourists on the road they make me nervous as they're unpredictable. As opposed to Thais who tend to ride in a straight line and check their mirrors. Also the culture here is that it's unfortunately common to use 2 lanes when taking a corner and also commonly accepted that you can just pull out in front of oncoming traffic. Both highly dangerous. So yeh overtaking a truck on the inside taking a corner is rolling the dice with your life.
  14. I saw a girl do a dump in the gutter right out the front of a hotel in soi 6 at about 9am once. She was doing the poo yet I was the one contemplating my life choices in being there.
  15. That's so disappointing. I was looking forward to the roads being clogged up with buses and hordes of loud screaming Chinese tourists pushing and shoving everywhere. Hope you sort it out guys.
  16. Reverse psychology perhaps. They've possibly found an excuse to get more involved
  17. I used to just give her the wallet. Saved me pulling it out all the time or feeling like an ATM on legs. Also solves your problem. Don't try to understand it because there is no logic to be found.
  18. Yeh it's easy to sort out but the fact you even need to get a visa has always been the biggest turn off for me. The place is just as cool as Thailand of not better.
  19. Yeh and that's exactly what I have done. I've included a very similar reference to your point 3. Basically the same except missing the address. For example soi, street, mooban, province etc. This is the same "payment instruction message" as requested by the developer and is written in the contract that i need to include that same message. Which I've done. However my lawyer has contacted scb to enquire about what's needed to get this letter as he says it varies bank to bank which i can understand. However he's got back to me saying they want the complete residential address included which my overseas bank can't do and it doesn't fit in the reference field. Also it would be deviating from the message the contract says i need to follow exactly. So at the moment: My lawyer just refers me to my overseas bank. The developer - not really in their job description to sort out people's individual issues. Scb - i want to go and talk to them myself but can't get to the branch for a week due to work. This is probably the logical next step. I may get a different answer from them to the lawyer I'm hoping but if they really insist on a full address then I have no idea what the next step would be. I could try to "escalate" as you suggest which sounds nice in theory but that just means calling the manager over and talking to them instead. I'm not sure how i could escalate any higher than that.
  20. I forgot to mention I transferred from my overseas bank into my Thai account then to the developer account.
  21. I'm going out of my mind. I've transferred the first payment to the developer for the purchase of a condo. I included the exact payment instruction message that was requested in the contract. Meaning in the reference feild I have included "for the purchase of condo xxxx in xxxxx condominium project". After this my lawyer has gone to the bank to ask about getting the required Letter from the bank. Then he has come back to me saying the bank wants the full address somehow attached to the transaction (it doesn't fit in the reference field obviously). I contacted my overseas bank they are confused about this and never heard of anyone attaching a whole paragraph description to a transaction. When i mention this to lawyer he just says they (overseas bank) need to do it even though i clearly tell him that's not an option. So now I have already paid quote alot and have more payments due soon. In my brain worst case scenario is I lose all the money I've paid already because the developer has it and i can't get the required Letter. Really concerned but anytime i talk to lawyer or developer everyone seems pretty chilled like there's not even an issue. Starting to lose my patience a bit. So looking for any solution or someone familiar with this issue
  22. I had a driver with a tablet strapped to his sunshade. Doing about 130 from pattaya to bkk and he is buying line stickers through the shop. Really important stuff.
  23. I think scb will do the same soon. I logged into their crappy excuse for a website the other night and noticed it now suggests using the app
  24. I got nothing since 4th Feb. No response to this thread? Strange
