Yeh it's highly unusual for a busy cafe to have a no shoes policy with bar and kitchen staff all without shoes. It doesn't really make much sense and maybe something is lost in translation. Either way her behaviour is out of line if that is what she did and she should be sent packing. She was already caught and made an apology according to other sources

The New Central Plaza Motorbike Parking.
sikishrory replied to NoshowJones's topic in Central Thailand
Sounds kind of entitled to me. The "big bike" area in the mall is their especially so people with your kind of bike can park it there. If you don't like it because other peasants have parked there then go and park somewhere else outside. I ride a similar bike and park it in the mall all the time with no issue whatsoever. The only bike worthy of taking a whole car space in a Thai mall is a Goldwing or something of similar size in my opinion. -
Why do Phuket locals seem to really dislike Foreigners?
sikishrory replied to bob smith's topic in Phuket
I've lived and worked a lot of places in Thailand over 12 years. Phuket a few times. In Patong as a bit of a delinquent years ago and then in Phuket Town as more of a eat/sleep/work kind of life. In my experience yeh I find people in Patong less desirable and just out to get money or sometimes rude and abrupt. However, living at Phuket Town I rarely experienced it. I eat out every meal and always go out doing stuff. It must have to do with your habits and what you do where you go and who you interact with as I find people pretty normal. Pattaya I felt was the rudest most unfriendly locals. -
Don't be surprised if she chucks it in a drawer and never wears it. My ex wife hassled me about gold for years. When I finally got her something that she chose herself it was straight into the drawer. They view gold as an investment in a lot of cases.

I need a new Computer – But not a Laptop – Any advice .
sikishrory replied to tomgreen's topic in IT and Computers
Firstly I would search for a replacement battery on Lazada. They have lots of batteries you wouldn't expect to be available. I also use Linux Mint and after lots of research it seems a general consensus that Lenovo hardware works best with Mint. I previously had a Lenovo Mixx Hybrid that was really crap and turned me off Lenovo so when I needed a new one I really wanted something else but I found most of the ones I was interested in had some known driver/compatibility issues with Linux Mint so I ended up getting Lenovo again (Yoga) and it is the best computer I have ever had. Mint runs fine. I got a 1TB HDD. I have a smaller Windows install which I only use when Windows is needed and mostly I use the Mint insallation. Linux filesystems are different to windows and you need to make choices during installation if setting up dual boot. I think it is Ext4 instead of FAT32 etc. The only driver issue I had was with wifi after install. The common fix for that is updating the kernel to the recent one: update manager > view > linux kernels but you may need to tether or use mobile data or something to download an update from memory. I used the Lenovo website to buy online. I think they get configured to your custom specs and shipped from China. Arrived quite fast with Flash Express. Well packed and had to sign for it. -

There's more to this story than the footage and twisted up story shows. I wish they could present it in a raw, factual and non-biased form without the witch hunt journalism. Adam Judds account is vastly more professional than the second story. The kiwi is clearly saying they were attacked and are shown trying to disarm the cop and make the gun safe for fear of their life. I would like to see the part where the angelic officer kindly "asked for cooperation from them to stop their motorbikes" (for riding in a way that is quite normal for Thailand) and somehow lost one of his bullets. Plenty of cameras down around that area with the Chalong Police station and tunnels so where is the footage showing the whole encounter? The guy has BJJ experience and generally controlling someone from their back like that is quite a harmless defence not an "attack". Without the full footage it doesn't look good for them regardless.

Seems like people are quite comfortable with hospitals detaining people and holding them prisoner. Pretty sure I have seen a few stories over the years saying they don't do that here and its illegal. The way they do it is quite sly as well. I don't think most people are told going in that they could possibly be held prisoner over a small bill.

Bangkok airports hit turbulence: Ranked among world’s worst
sikishrory replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Went through BKK yesterday. Curious about the amazing technological advancements with the automatic gates. Picture in my head according to reports was lots of gates with Thais and westerners going through them. The reality, there were about 5 on each side of the escalators in the immigration hall. Half turned off (1 side). The others were in the Thai only queue. 1 seemed to be broken or not being used.
