Electric Vehicles in Thailand
ExpatOilWorker replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Do you really think that the majority of people are dreaming about having an EV, but the day they purchase a new vehicle some evil 😈 petroleum elf knocks them on the head and 90% buy an ICE or hybrid vehicle? -

Now we are on a subject that seems to interest you a lot, I guess we have discovered why many EV owners avoid dino juice. -

We all know precentage calculations are a struggle for many EV owners, but they are buying. 90% are buying ICE (or hybrid) vehicles. -

EV sales have also flatlined at around 8% of vehicle sales in Australia 🇦🇺, similar to what we are starting to see here. 90% of people don't want EVs. Overall monthly sales of battery EVs saw a slight increase, accounting for 8.1 per cent of new cars sold, up from 7.7 per cent in May 2023, according to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI). https://www.news.com.au/technology/motoring/on-the-road/potential-risks-concerns-as-chinese-evs-flood-australia/news-story/5c8f1fb18d8550a62a3137328468a456 -

I don't quiet follow you there Vinny. Arthur Brown, the singer? Why, what? Are you saying there are a lot of recorded recalls in China and that is a good thing? I am a bit lost, maybe I need more coffee ☕️. -

BB9, the voice of reason. It is refreshing to hear from an EV owner that is just enjoying a, hopefully quality product, and not trying to sell the concept while at the same time pimping solar power, by regurgitating false insurance data, fake Saul Goodman lawyer claims or simply keeping the cherry 🍒 season open all year around. Your and Pib's journey will be interesting to follow over the next 10 years and hopefully giving us an honest insight into any maintenance issues. All car manufacturers are in the business of profit. Japanese, Korean and European car makers have over time build a brand identity around reliability. It is just in the Chinese DNA to hide and deny, rather than investigate and improve. Time will tell if the tears 😢 we are seeing now will evaporate over time and the new manufacturers get their business in order. The jury is still out. -

The e-bikes are already here. Apparently they catch fire 🔥 more frequently than their 4-wheeled bigger brothers. -

Based on sales figures, 10% of people will agree 👍 with you and 90% of people will disagree 👎 with you. It is like saying a screwdriver is better than a hammer. They are both tools, but one is not better than the other, they each serve a different purpose.

Absolutely love it. You also want one, right? Should I bring this thread back on subject with an EV crash? Because we had a Tesla Y crash earlier today. -

It is a translation thing Mr. Red Ant. Just like we had the news article with 10,000 EVs not "running". It was a translation of not moving, as in not selling but ended up being not running. Read the meaning, not the individual words. -

The 8 years warranty is turning out to be a hollow promise and the Thais are slowly waking up from the EV propaganda slumber. While social media last year was full of proud new owners posing in front of their car with a silly oversized reusable red ribbon 🎀 on the hood, the mood is a bit more angry this year. 29% of EV owners have buyers remorse, more will soon follow. -

While it is understandable insurance companies are assessing their cost/risk exposure, why are manufacturers not honoring their 8 years warranty claim? Even more so, why aren't manufacturers being held accountable? -
Thailand Faces Economic Question: China and EV Cars

To be fair some of the newer brands in the Thai market are behind on after sale services. You can be in for a world of pain if your vehicle have a major failure. Tools and skills are not in place.....yet. -

Thanks for the deep dive into the numbers Pib. The 10% for South East Asia, perfectly match where the EV sales fraction have leveled out in Thailand since February this year. -

After the tsunami of EV propaganda, the tide is rolling out again. With just about 1:3 EV owners waking up and going back to ICE, who of our local members want to raise their hand first?
