Did you read the post already about the guy who had to move out of his 17 year residence and rent a separate apartment in Jomtien? Russians. There seems to be a whole new upper middle class/ upper class very family centric and keep to themselves types everywhere I visit in Thailand. They spend a lot of baht too!! Go to five star resorts and there are heaps of them spending. So for sure I'd welcome them in my country. I go to Sunny Isles Florida every year before coming to Thailand in the Winter. The amounts of Russians there is unbelievable and they seem to be mega rich and very well behaved.

You'll easily have your 150 days in Thailand with just one trip out. 60 day tourist visa + 30 days extension then go somewhere a couple days or week then enter 30 day exempt + 30 day extension. Just get to Jomtien to get your first 60 days straightened out.

For 8 or 9 months your base is wherever you are. You don't need some formal base and if you really needed one Malaysia and other countries give many people 90 days NO VISA. I agree with the other poster. Not needed at all.
