No, I actually received approx 1/3 more than I paid for it in Oz. I paid AUD $2,000.00 in 2012 ( approx 56,000 THB ) I received 75,000 THB ( approx AUD $2,680.00) in 2016. Also the price on display in the shop was the same as the market price for gold. It had nothing to do with being the price for Thai gold. So please get your facts correct before posting such ludicrous comments.

Controversy over Lisa’s tattoos shows misogynistic, outdated mindset
TigerandDog replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
again it's up to the individual and what they believe, and it's not just Buddhists that wear them. All religions have amulets that people wear for protection etc. My comment also applies to them viz. naysayers negative comments are irrelevant. -

Controversy over Lisa’s tattoos shows misogynistic, outdated mindset
TigerandDog replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I'm sure based on another thread about tattoos a few months back that he does, as do I. We get tats because we like them but more importantly they have a significant meaning for us. What other people think is irrelevant. Those who categorise people with tats are just narrow minded bigots and they should keep their small minded opinions to themselves. -
Encid , not quite correct. I did say "Also make sure that after rendering and BEFORE painting that the builder applies a protective plastic skin" but please don't selectively edit what I said. I also said that the skin/sealer was painted on (2 coats) THEN the undercoat/primer followed by the topcoat.

Thai health officials worried about growing number of fat kids
TigerandDog replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There's only one way to reverse this. Get rid of all the American fast food chains (KFC, Mackas, Burger King etc) and the easy access to coca cola, pepsi and other sugary soft drinks. Wherever they become established the population's obesity explodes, it's not just Thailand. Look at the USA, Australia, the UK and the other continents. Obesity is a worldwide health issue. -
I don't know the why's and wherefores about the noise reduction, but I do know that the daily noise from the village loud speakers is considerably less, and no the volume of the speakers has not been turned down because when we go outside they are just as loud as always.

The method you are advocating is so out of date. I would say that you have not kept up to date with the latest STANDARD practice when it comes to cement render and the painting thereof, especially by quality builders. The skin/sealer is applied the same as an undercoat, viz it's painted on (2 coats) before the undercoat and the top coat of paint are applied. I was made aware of the process by a mate of mine, back in oz, who works in the paint industry, and as previously stated, it is now STANDARD practice with the most of the top end builders in Thailand too. The sealer is readily available at stores like Global Warehouse, SCG etc.

We used to AAC bricks to build our house last year. As stated by an earlier poster you need to ensure that the builder you choose knows how to work with them. When obtaining quotes from builders we asked them had they ever worked with AAC bricks previously. Most answered yes, but when we questioned them on mortar thickness and render etc they would say the same as if they were using red bricks or the cement bricks with the hollow center (similar to those in the pic in Tropposurfer's post), and if they managed to answer those questions correctly we then asked to see a current construction site where they were using AAC bricks. Some were using them, but not correctly so they did not get hired. Even with the company we eventually chose we had to get them to replace one of the brickies as he was not using the correct quantities of mortar and he was just smashing bricks the same as they do with red bricks instead of cutting them to size with a hacksaw. We have air con installed but so far have only had to use it for 1 hour at night during the hotter months in the upstairs bedroom. The house stays cool in the hot weather and keeps warm in the cold weather. They also do an excellent job of reducing the amount of external noise (village, temple & school loudspeakers that blare out morning and evening), We used the 7.5cm bricks. Some wall sections have double bricking, but most are single brick. Also make sure that after rendering and BEFORE painting that the builder applies a protective plastic skin. The stops teh render from absorbing the moisture from the paint, which means that the paint will last longer before a repaint needs to be done.

Resumption of bull, cock and fish fighting and betting approved

Thai bull fights are very different. No matadors etc. It's actually 2 bulls fighting each other. -

I'm surprised that nobody's mentioned that there are 2 Thai tv channels dedicated to the bull fighting and cock fighting. Came across them once when scrolling through the channels to see what was available other than the standard free to air channels. -
List of foreigners that has become Thai citizens
TigerandDog replied to Eaglekott's topic in General Topics
don't need to have Thai citizenship to get that golf discount in CM or Lamphun. All long term foreign residents pay the same as Thais for golf, just need to show pink ID card or Thai driver's license. Discount is closer to 50% -
there's more than 1 nice restaurant there. Apart from what you mention there's also a zipline ride that can be taken. There's also quite a good cycling track around the park. The annual Chiang Rai Road Classic starts and finishes at Singha Park. Depending of the timing of your visit, there's could also be hot air balloons or other festivities being held. It's worth a visit at least once.

Why are Thais unemotional at funerals?
TigerandDog replied to RamenRaven's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I have to disagree with you. I've been in Thailand for 9 years now, and attend on average 3 funerals per month in my village or the adjoining villages. When my partner's mother passed, not a single tear from her or any of the family members, privately or publicly. When I asked why no tears she said that the funeral was just another step in the path of life and that eventually the person would be reincarnated and that reincarnation form would depend on whether they had led a good or bad life and that reincarnation kept occurring until the person had lived a very good life and only then would their soul go to heaven. The one thing I cannot fathom is the amount of disrespect shown at funerals. While the monks are doing their thing, the people sitting outside just carry on normal conversations and quite loud at that. The one thing I love about Thai funerals is there are no eulogies. I like this because that way you don't have people saying what a great person the deceased was when they were anything but. -
Pacific Cross' premium increases are in 5 year bands. I've been with them since it became mandatory for O-A's to have health insurance and I've only had 2 increases in premiums, the first when I turned 71 and the second because I increased my cover to the new requirements. I'm due for renewal next month and I've already been advised that my premium for the next year will be the same as I paid last year, which included a 10% no claim bonus.

Here's something to be aware of. Last week I sent a parcel to Singapore, by registered post. Within 48 hours of it being delivered I started receiving scam calls from Singapore & Thailand about an issue with the parcel. So I've come to the conclusion that someone in either Thai Post or Singapore Post OR both is onselling details of the sender. It's too big a coincidence that these calls started within 48 hours of the parcel being delivered, when I've never had them previously. Thank god for my call blocker app and my Samsung phone identifying these calls as spam.

why not use a call blocker app and as each of the scam calls are received add them to the blacklist. Those numbers are then blocked My Samsung phone actually gives me a pop up message re suspected spam for every call not in my contacts list. If I believe it to be spam then I just add it to the blacklist. Don't get anywhere near as many spam calls these days.
