Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra announced today that there will be no executive decree to extend the 20-year litigation period for the infamous 2004 Tak Bai incident in Thailand’s Deep South.
The period, which expires tomorrow, concerns the tragic deaths of 85 protesters, where 78 individuals suffocated in overcrowded army trucks during transport from outside the Tak Bai police station in Narathiwat to an army barracks in Pattani.
During a press briefing at Government House, Paetongtarn expressed her condolences to the victims' families. She also noted that the legal timeframe could not be extended to prosecute the 14 suspects linked to the incident due to legal constraints.
This conclusion came after consultations with the Council of State, which determined that no executive decree could legally prolong the window for litigation.
This incident occurred during the leadership of Paetongtarn's father, Thaksin Shinawatra, who was the Prime Minister at the time and is now the de facto leader of the Pheu Thai Party.
Most notably, former Fourth Army Region commander Pisal Watanawongkhiri, viewed as the central figure among the suspects, is believed to have fled the country and recently resigned as a Pheu Thai MP.
In response to the looming deadline, police launched a last-minute effort to locate some of these suspects, extending their search to distant provinces such as Chiang Rai, but no arrests were made, reported Thai Newsroom.
The decision not to extend the litigation period has been met with disappointment from those seeking justice. However, the government maintains that the boundaries of the law must be respected, despite public and political pressures to take further action. This decision raises questions about accountability and justice concerning historic cases.

Well, as president of the Council of State, she should know. But I'm not in the tiniest bit convinced that she does. The whole council, lawyers, academics, legal experts etc would have had to have met and discussed it at length. And exactly when did that happen?
When courts fail, let natural justice prevail. Karma, vengeance and divine retribution await these dodgers.

just moved to the northern end of Jomtien beach, I am looking for recommendations for Thai steam fish restaurants on the northern side up to Dongtan, up to 30 minutes walk is fine.
I can find plenty in the south (Nah Jomtien) but not so much in the north
looking for something in walking distance
You could try Thepprasit. Many Thai eateries on both sides of the road. Some going 24 hours. And you can enjoy browsing Ratanakorn market!

Let's say my gf orders SomTam. Maybe there will be 20 chilies in there. It's too hot for me to eat. If I would ask them to make it less spicy, and they would only have 10 chilies, it's still too spicy for me.
And if they would put only one chili in SomTam, then it would still be spicy (for "western" taste). And of course it wouldn't be SomTam anymore.
It's like ordering a mushroom salad without mushrooms. It doesn't make any sense!
They do ask sometimes "ow pet my?", do you want it hot? Answer, "ow" or "may ow". Want, or not want. Or "kee met", ie how many chilis, for eg som tam, larb, yam and geng. 2 or 3 is enough for me. Of course it helps if you're culturally savvy, at least enough to be able to know what hot is the average Thai, if such an entity existed. But tastes and cuisine vary hugely in Thailand, north, south, central etc. Many Thais don't actually like it fiery hot. And if you can say "I really don't want it hot" in Thai I think they'll hear you! And appreciate it too!

I watched recently a Pattaya YouTuber who said his he stated slim
Intermittent fasting!
I have now taken his advice and not eaten for 12 hours ,I did feel hungry!
Very hungry
But ..it seems to have waned.
I exercise everyday sometimes intense, and still my weight was the same
Exercise doesn't help weight loss if your still eating a lot and I was drinking 3 protein shakes a day with eggs
My weight remained the same
Now I need tips in fasting .
Number 1 , coffee ,do J need to drink only black coffee not this 3 in 1
What is the most hours you personally fast for ?
Can you eat immediately after fasting for say 24 hours?
I've not read the rest of this thread, so it might be a bit repetitive. Exercise alone won't reduce weight. They say it's 70/30 diet and gym. I did keto for 21 months. I was by no means in ketosis throughout. In the first 3 months I lost 6 kilos. You shed a lot of water stored in fat. Thereafter it went down to a floor of 80kg from 95kg. Lower than that I couldn't manage. I cooked my own food, essential. Counted carbs but not to the point of cult status. No bread, potatoes, pasta, rice and very few sugary fruits. No sugar. Use erythritol. Strawberries and star fruit petmissible. I quit end of last year. Since then I've put 7kg back on. But it was a great education and it taught me to take care of myself. That's all that really matters, GG. Taking care of yourself.
Ps they say not to eat after 8pm. Sage advice as if you skip breakfast, you've fasted for 16 hours until midday. Not really difficult. I used to have a jar of additive, sugar and salt free crunchy peanut butter handy. A teaspoon works wonders if you get pangs.

Never had them before but, do fancy the name and, the name, in and of itself, sounds like something that would be hot and spicy. Maybe not enough sugar in this batch? Whenever my wife makes some som tam (which seems like every day!) it's a coughing/choking/runny nose affair but, that's how she likes it (sometimes too hot for her reles).
Seems like a good opportunity to use that Thai line; the doctor says she tasted her friends Dragon Balls (the food from the restaurant) the other day and they weren't as hot to which the waiter gets to reply "Same same but different".
Trial should be a banger; Dr. Walia how often do eat Dragon's Balls? In your previous experience, what was your favorite part of the Dragon's Balls? Could you please describe for the court the size and shape of said Dragon's Balls? Have you ever have to treat a patient with Dragon's Balls?
Maybe she tries it on everywhere. Order something super hot then throw a fit when her ass catches fire.

Sounds more like an allergic reaction. And even if not, how can the restaurant be held responsible? She ordered it, end of. If she's Indian she should know about hot curries. She'll litigate in the hope the restaurant will settle. Arrogant and brazen.

She is right as most restaurants do not even bother to ask the foreigner if they want it very spicy or not to spicy. Depending on their mood of the day, even if you ask, they answer just with the usual "No can Do". Happens all the time in Hua Hin restaurants.
I'm always asked if I want "spicy" in Thai restaurants in Pattaya. And I've never ever heard a Thai say "No can do". "Cannot" is usual. And when would a waiter or waitress say they can't vary the heat? Are you making this stuff up?

Five hours to clean gives them 500 baht . Not so jaw dropping for them.
Agree. I used to pay 300 for a one bed condo, maybe 2 hours work, with less to do than your schedule. I think 300 would be nearer the mark. 3 bedrooms could be a lot of work if all occupied.

Not sure if this has been posted previously but this link shows the locations/views from a number of CCTV cameras around Pattaya. Primarily of the status of the traffic but also some views of the 'hotspots', albeit from a distance. Fairly decent quality pictures.
Brilliant! I noticed hardly any over Jomtien way! There are some at the junction of Thepprasit and Thappraya but not sure if they're working.

How about a Democrats v Republican rumble down on the beach somewhere? Get it all out of our systems! Better than sitting at a keyboard hurling insults at each other.

Caustic soda as well as some other acidic unblocker (that they told me not to mix with caustic soda in the pipes as they react together) is available in those thai markets. Just bought from Phratamnak Soi 5 market few weeks ago.
That will totally destroy the bacteria that's supposed to digest the waste material. You need to add EM to restore the bacterial content.

I wanted to cancel an order I made just SECONDS earlier, because I found it cheaper elsewhere, not because I made a mistake.
Well, I'd say you did make a mistake. You ordered from Lazada without fully checking alternatives. Unless it's a lot cheaper, why fuss?

I did not see a weapon, I guess he was going to use those weapons that kills more people in the United States than rifles do ... his hands and feet!
I did unholster a concealed firearm another time when I believed I was in danger of being attacked. But I don't think the Rottweiler, that may have been the one attacking children and other dogs understood that I would have shot it, if it had approached closer than it did. That happened in the state I currently live in, Pennsylvania. Rumor had it the dog belonged to someone in the rural neighborhood. I can't recall if the attacks stopped or if the police caught the dog.I admire your restraint. Maybe it goes for the majority of Americans. Just owning a gun gives peace of mind. I don't know why it's become such a hot potato. I guess the mass shootings account for that. There are a lot in the US. 582 currently in the US this year.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mass_shootings_in_the_United_States_in_2024
The damage done by these incidents is enormous. Every one person killed or wounded is known to maybe 100s if not 1000s of friends, family, colleagues. Every time it happens there are calls for increased controls, fiercely resisted by the gun lobby. You can't arm kids. You can't protect kids 24/7. If the victims had been armed and were able to get a shot off... But these are mostly surprise attacks. Nobody is prepared 24/7. Random killings. How can you arm against them? How many attackers have been "immobilised" by their intended victims? 2A being a constitutional matter there's no way an individual state could disarm it's populace. I imagine all hell would break loose if it tried! The US has inherited a deep distrust in federal government, which is where the right to bear arms originated, I believe. Memories of the British? Or? Is it still realistic to assume Washington will invade your state?

Water runoff having nowhere to go does not stop the toilet flushing only blocked pipes do that. Thailand tends to use small piping to run to septic tanks.
I think the sinks and showers use maybe 1.5", but the toilets 4" - 6".

He was an aquaintance, a friend of someone else that I knew. Somehow I offended him and he told his friend that he was going to kill me. This happened in California. I called the police (pre 911 era) and filed a complaint.
The police wanted to know his last name and I did not know it. I described where he lived and one cop said, oh, that's so and so, I know him! Nothing ever happened from the complaint!
I'm just curious. Was he armed? How did he intend to kill you? Was he arrested for attempted murder? I guess it could happen anywhere. But still, arming a whole population on the off chance someone is going to try and kill you every once in a while. What are the chances?

She was always the wrong person for the job. My guess are only two reasons she got the job, one is her age, they were hoping that she could pander to the youth, and two is her daddy. Zero qualifications.
But your attacks are all personal. Why? It's not like she went out of her way to get the job. She was elected leader of PT. From there it was natural she would be nominated for PM. She was one of 3 nominations. She didn't get it first time round, and as I said, her dad didn't even support her candidacy. You seem to be blaming her for being young, attractive and from a powerful political family. But none of those things are in her control. How many others of a similar ilk are there in Thai politics?

I needed one at least once. I found out after a man broke into my house, which took him only about 5 seconds, that he broke into my house to kill me. When I pointed a 1911, .45 ACP pistol at him, he decided he should be elsewhere.
Only the door and doorway were harmed during that incident!
Did you know him? Where else does this happen?

Neo nazi’s and far right, omg
Americans have the constitutional right, its protected under the second amendment ,to make & carry arms, Making arms has been a tradition.
When officials working on the government’s behalf start restricting rights of a citizens , thats a big problem .
But why? Because you can? What's the big deal? Only a handful of countries in the world have a similar law. But the countries that don't, don't show any need for it. Most gun use is for suicide, not homicide. Who really needs a gun?

I had a lot of problems with a tank. It filled for no apparent reason. No soakaway function. We ended up digging another tank about 10m away in the garden, that was below the level of the first tank, and connecting a large 6" blue pipe between the two, so the first tank fed into the 2nd any time the level reached the bottom of the pipe. A lot of hard work for my superman Cambodian builder. No problem since. My theory about the non functioning soakaway was lack of use over a period of time led to the soil becoming rock hard and completely impenetrable. Anyway, the overflow system worked for me.

Typical. They encourage the use of technology and then complain because it's used for things they don't like.
This must be especially troubling for the anti gun fanatics that want to disarm the population. If anyone can make one in their bedroom, their push to disarm the population is not going to work.
BTW, it's not going to be long before the ability to avoid detection on line becomes available to everyone, IMO.
What troubles you about an unarmed population? Most of the world is unarmed. If you're starving, drowning, dying of disease, what use is a gun? Only in the US is it becoming mandatory to carry a gun. Because your neighbour's got one. It's the only justification. If the population of America was disarmed, what do the NRA fear? What would be the outcome? Disaster for the weapons industry maybe. But they sell overseas mainly anyway. You think anarchy and chaos, looting and burning? Don't see much of that in Europe, for instance. China, India, Japan, much of South America, South Korea, Australia, NZ. Africa is completely overrun with arms. What a result. Death and destruction. The US is the odd man out.

PM: No Extension for Tak Bai Litigation Period Despite Calls
in Thailand News
Posted
https://www.ocs.go.th/council-of-state/#/public
And there's a pdf file which gives the whole low down on this extraordinary beast. For instance:
"In the performance of duties, the Law Councillors meet as a Committee. At present, there are 136 Law Councillors divided into 14 Law Committees, each of which consists of 10 Law Councillors."
I would absolutely challenge Madam Ung Ing to produce chapter and verse of this ruling. In a statement a few days ago, there seemed to be clear precedent for an extension. I don't have the source to hand.
