I see a report that in the US, a 66 year old man shot and killed a woman who was a passenger in a car that made a wrong turn into his driveway. He claimed he tripped and his gun went off.

Unfortunately not that simple. Beach Rd going south one way tonight Dong Tan to Soi 7. Traffic going north on Beach Rd forced right up Soi 7.

Just a reminder, Soi 5 will be one way starting (possibly) March 1st, from Jomtien 2nd Rd down to Beach Rd. Then you will be forced right at junction with Beach Rd, as Beach Rd will be one way from Chaiyapreuk all the way to Dong Tan police box.
Enjoy.
Its started. Beach rd one way south to north. Soi 5 entry from 2nd rd and 7 also from beach rd.

The Line Groups posting about police checkpoints say there's many police in that area to keep an eye on traffic and those going the "wrong way".
Edit; why is this in the Visa section? Seems Jomtien traffic is more of a Pattaya general topic, there's more in Jomtien than just the IO.
Yes, my fault I'm afraid. I originally posted it as a reminder for the Jomtien IO. It would be better in another group maybe.

There's a U-turn on Second Road just after Soi 7 so, if you're coming from the Thepprasit/Thappraya direction, just continue along Second Road past Rompho market then take the U-turn back to Soi 5.
That was always the way in from 2nd Rd, so yes, no change there.

"Bingo"! "Instinct"? Not exactly, that TAO quote was published seven hours after I posted my question! So no "Bingo!" That's what I say.
My observation was also posted long before I discovered and read the article, which nobody else had read, regarding the illegality of the steps placement. But I guessed right. So yeah, bingo!

You clearly do care what I think or you wouldn't have got your knickers in a twist.
You're not keeping up. The steps have to be demolished within 3 days. They're built on public land. The good doctor will sue.

Much discussions is going on on the forum regarding regular bank alternatives. Let's take a closer look at Wise and Revolut's key features, and where they excel for ASEAN NOW members:
-
Core Strength: International Transfers
- Uses the mid-market exchange rate, the fairest rate available, resulting in lower fees compared to most banks.
- Transparent fee structure, you see upfront what you'll pay.
- Supports a massive range of currencies.
- Fast transfer speeds, often within a few seconds, up to a few days.
-
Multi-Currency Account
- Hold balances in over 50 currencies.
- Get local bank details in 10 countries (US, UK, Eurozone, Australia, etc.) to receive money like a local, minimizing conversion fees.
-
Debit Card
- Linked to your multi-currency account for spending abroad with low fees.
-
Business Account
- Tailored features for businesses making international transactions.
-
Financial Super App
- Traditional banking features: Accounts, debit cards, spending abroad

- "Vaults" for automated saving towards goals.
- Cryptocurrency trading (limited selection).
- Travel insurance, lounge access (premium plans).
- Junior accounts for kids (premium plans).
-
Tiered Plans
- Free plan with basic features and limits.
- Premium and Metal plans increase limits, unlock perks like cashback, insurance, and more.
-
Exchange Rates
- Uses a live exchange rate, but can add markups, especially on weekends or for less common currencies.
When to Choose Wise:
- Prioritize low fees and transparent pricing for international transfers.
- You frequently work with multiple currencies.
- Need local bank details in various countries.
When to Choose Revolut:
- You want a wide array of financial tools in one app.
- Budgeting features and saving tools are important.
- You might be interested in cryptocurrency (though do your research!)
- Premium features like travel insurance and lounge access appeal to you.
Additional Considerations:
- User Interface: Both have user-friendly platforms, but the design may come down to personal preference.
- Customer Support: Both have support channels, but response times and quality can vary. It's worth checking online reviews.
Ultimately, the best choice depends on your individual financial needs and priorities. It's always smart to compare their current features and fees on their websites before deciding.
Websites:
I tried to sign up for revolut in Thailand. They said I couldn't. End of.

Ok, a possibility, because of their proximity to the beach. If somebody can just wander from the beach, unknowingly onto the steps to rest, where's the demarcation? Is this their private access to the beach? Just a lot of nimby nonsense. And he's renting! It's not even his property, is it? The owner might object, but he's claiming his monthly 1m THB rent is greatly devalued if people sit on the steps. Talk to the owner. The renter has no jurisdiction. Ask for a discount! But don't start attacking innocent people. Maybe it comes with the territory. Maybe it's happened before. Maybe it happens all the time. Yeah, in all probability, this man's a moron.
Seems my instincts were right:
"The Thalang Administrative Office (TAO) conducted a further investigation at the villa today, February 29. According to the TAO, the steps were constructed on the public beach without permission so they have ordered a real estate developer to remove the steps within three days."
Get outta here!

Exactly. It's amazing how all the white knights here immediately assume her side of the story is true. From the satellite photo (google maps) it's clear this is not a beach and the women were knowingly walking through back yards. There are clearly two No Tresspassing signs on both sides of the stairs - they just didn't care. So she already lied about not knowing she was tresspassing - the "poor me didn't know" act is after-the-fact to gather sympathy for her "cause" (what cause is that? legally speaking she's the one who broke the law). As far as the assault goes, it was probably just a push, which is uncalled for - but hardly "assault". If he actually hit or kicked her she would've definitely included that in her version of events. Also a nice touch implying he was fat/obese - as if that bears any relevance other than trying to portray him as the villian. As for what he or his wife said - she probably is making a lot of it up.
I've met a lot of female Thai doctors, lawyers, judges, and others in such professions - while sure a lot of them can be sweethearts, many are also incredibly entitled - especially when drunk. I've seen such women be incredibly pushy, sexually harass me and others, stubbornly continue to hit on me despite having clearly indicated I am not interested, etc. This type of woman assumes she is above the rest and does not take no for an answer. And that's what likely happened here - they were told to move, and instead of moving they stubbornly stayed there which escalated the situation.
Just the other night ran into such a beast - she was at the table next to mine very drunk and very provocative, at some point she comes over and introduces herself while spilling half her drink on my leg. I reached out to get some paper towels and when she realized what happened she lowered her face towards my leg/groin, overtly licked her lips, and asked "can I help you?". I refused politely and dried it off, but she kept doing it over and over again and licking her lips throughout and get more and more touchy. Eventually I told her "my girlfriend works in this club" hoping she'd take the hint - no such luck - she kept going. I had to tell her 5 times I have a girlfriend and eventually physically move away and move tables to get her to stop.
Try again:
"The Thalang Administrative Office (TAO) conducted a further investigation at the villa today, February 29. According to the TAO, the steps were constructed on the public beach without permission so they have ordered a real estate developer to remove the steps within three days."
You're just full of xxit, aren't you?

Yes. It's almost a certainty:

I don't think it's the Thai immigration's fault alone as they weren't like that just few years back. I feel like the immigration here tipped them off for the same human trafficking issue. I actually believe that the Philippine-immigration is the one that tips other ASEAN countries to make the screening harder for Filipinas, most especially the younger ones who fly solo or to meet their partners in Thailand. It has something to do with the government not wanting to shell out money or save their fellow citizens when things go bad abroad. Then on the Thai side, they also don't want to take the burden of such issues which will give them "headaches." Like I have mentioned earlier, I'm all for rescuing women from human-trafficking, but it's not fair to give hell to those who just want to go on a trip, regardless if they will meet a bf or not.
But Philippines is rife with scam call centres and offshore gambling sites. No need to travel to Thailand, or Cambodia or Myanmar. I very rarely read about 100s of Pinoy getting rounded up in these raids, bars, call centres, brothels, whatever. They seem to be amongst the cleanest living migrants in Thailand. They work as nannies, teachers, front of house, customer service ops etc etc, mostly because of their highly valued English language skills. But many are extremely pretty and I guess therefore add 1 and 1 and come up with 3. Just chauvinist rubbish.

A taxi driver was discovered dead in his vehicle at a gas station in Bangkok’s Jomthong district. The incident occurred early this morning, February 28, and the circumstances surrounding the driver’s death are currently under investigation.
The gas station on Kalapapruek Road became an unexpected crime scene this morning when a 59 year old taxi driver, identified as Sathian (surname withheld), was found lifeless in his pink Toyota cab with license plate ทห943. The vehicle was parked with its engine hood open, and the driver’s door ajar, near the station’s restroom facilities.
Sathian was found in a semi-reclined position in the driver’s seat, wearing a white shirt and brown three-quarter-length shorts. There were traces of blood on his lips, and no signs of a struggle were evident. Near the vehicle, additional bloodstains were located near a tree on the path to the restroom, where a half-empty beer bottle was also found near the driver’s side door, reported KhaoSod.
Closed-circuit television footage from the gas station revealed that Sathian had driven into the station around 6am, opened the vehicle’s hood, and made two trips to fill water for the radiator before entering the men’s restroom. He returned to his car, stepped out to vomit, and eventually lost consciousness beside the vehicle.
Kanokwan (surname withheld), the 29 year old deceased driver’s daughter, stated that her father, who suffered from a lung disease, had been out driving the taxi overnight and was supposed to return home in the morning. Despite his condition, hospital examinations had not yet pinpointed the exact cause of his illness. Sathian had been carrying his medication with him regularly.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Kanchan Sawasdee, Deputy Inspector (Investigator) at Bang Khun Thian Police Station, and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation responded to the scene, along with forensic doctors from Siriraj Hospital. The body was sent for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The family was allowed to claim the body for religious rites following the preliminary investigation.

20 minutes ago, AhFarangJa said:This is a good example of the crazy laws here. How is it possible that a minor charge like trespass can be four years in jail, while a physical assault can be bought off. I may be wrong, please tell me if I am, but even now after more than 3 decades here I still believe the laws are geared towards the rich and influential at the expense of the common man.
"Thai Criminal Code
Section 362: Trespass
Whoever, entering into the immovable property belonging to the other person so as to take possession of such property in whole or in any part or entering into such property to do any act disturbing the peaceful possession of such person, shall be imprisoned not out of one year or fined not more of two thousand Baht, or both."
So the cop was talking out of his arse in order to scare the doctor, presumably. And a judge would never convict on the basis of sitting on a step to rest. There was no intent and no disturbance. Nasty bxstard Swiss. Definitely do him for assault. Lock him up!

Thai taxi driver slams cops for toll indulgence
in Bangkok News
Posted
The driver explained she could go on a toll road or another route, but they would have to pay the tolls if they chose that route. Perfectly normal practice. The women chose the toll route, then refused to pay the toll. I don't get what the argument is. People who don't bother reading the full article should refrain from clogging up the thread with their ill informed remarks.
