  1. "You can also enter visa exempt. That would work if covid extensions continue. They are due to end Jan 25. We will know soon if extended or not." I'm misunderstanding something I guess. I see a post of ubonjoe from yesterday: "You both could enter the country visa exempt to get a 30 day entry that can be extended for 30 days and then apply for non-o visas at immigration if you can meet the financial requirements." Is the extension only for citizens of certain countries? Or can I enter Visa Exempt for 30 days and then get a 30 day extension as mentioned by ubonjoe? (I.e., regardless of whether Covid Extensions continue or not)?
  2. If I enter Thailand Visa Exempt, is there a minimum amount of time that needs to be left on my 30 days allowed before I switch to a non-O?
  3. I login, select some articles to read, before I'm finished with them all I have to login again if I want to participate (Post a thread/Comment in a thread/ Emoticon a thread). Usually I don't bother wasting more time logging in again. It's been going on for a long time. Usually I just Grimace and Bear It. But I just wrote a long post, sent it, and it disappeared. I assume I was logged out and it just went into space. A huge waste of time and a lot of frustration. No such problem with any other website/forum. Regardless of what happened to the post (I should have gotten a message telling me to login if I was logged out), any way to stop this?
  4. HCM Thai Consulate also requires it for a Tourist Visa: "2.4. Evidence of transportation Flight itinerary for ROUND TRIP ticket The ticket must show the applicant’s name, departure date and time, and flight details" https://hochiminh.thaiembassy.org/en/publicservice/tourist-visa?page=5d80ab3315e39c2fe800a791&menu=5d80ab3215e39c2fe800a722
  5. "First up are you going to obtain a visa." Thai Embassy Hanoi: "TOURIST VISA 1. REQUIREMENT This type of visa is issued to applicants who wish to enter the Kingdom for tourism purposes . 2. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months Visa application form completely filled out; Recent( 4 x 6 cm.) photograph of the applicant; Evidence of travel in and out of Thailand (e.g. Air ticket receipt paid in full); Evidence of adequate finance (850 USD per person and 1250 USD per family) for the entire duration of stay in Thailand; Consular officers reserve the right to request additional documents as deemed necessary" https://rtehanoi.thaiembassy.org/th/page/cate-1761-visa-information?menu=5d7de15d15e39c3484001bba As far as I can tell this is the official Thai Gov't. site.
  6. "You can also obtain non O retirement from visa exempt entry." Just spoke to someone at the Thai Embassy in Hanoi who stated that Visa Exempt does not permit any change to another type of Visa. At the end of the conversation I asked him if he was sure of that, and he said Yes. Could this situation have changed?
  7. Tickets from "Onward flight" and other similar companies - don't they all expire in 24 or 48 hours? Wondering if I could use it for getting my Visa, Thai Pass, as well as actual flight which would require a ticket good for a few weeks in my case.
  8. Nor is the concept of "If I have a medical issue I will just hop on a plane and fly home where I have national insurance."
  9. That's 1 thing I wanted to clarify. I've seen "10 or 14 day" quarantines mentioned. But I think the 14 day quarantines were eliminated. I also need to research if I can fly to and quarantine in Chiang Mai.
  10. "There are MANY threads regarding requirements for entry." You are referring to threads in this specific subforum? "I can advise that Saigon consulate is a friendly helpful place to obtain tourist visa." It reads like you obtained a Tourist Visa in HCM. if so, how long did it take to be issued? On the spot? Pre-Covid?
  11. Thank you. Can I get an eVisa 60 day Tourist Visa? Or else what is the best way? I see the only Embassy/Consulates are in Hanoi and HCM. "You also need to check out all the requirements to enter Thailand currently. This will involve quarantine etc." Yes, those are the "further questions" I referred to above. Is there a forum here where I can get the latest news, tips, recommendations, etc. for the topics you mention? I expect to be starting from Da Nang. Da Nang planned to resume international flights on Jan. 15th but so far see no flights listed Da Nang to Thailand. If that remains the case will have to fly to HCM 1st (Hanoi is huge with Covid currently).
  12. Hi, USA citizen. Fully insured for Covid with April International. My age qualifies me for the annual Retirement Extension. Currently in Vietnam. (No Thai Embassy in my city). Unvaxxed. Have not had Covid (as far as I am aware). Plan is to live in Chiang Mai for at least 6 months/year (living elsewhere for the months with bad Air Quality - a different country or possibly a healthier Thai location ). [I realize my timing is off for this as the worst Air Quality months are approaching, but necessi·ty dictates my leaving Vietnam within a month or sooner]. I will not be working in Thailand. My first questions are regarding Visas: 1) If I do not want to apply for the Retirement Extension, what is the longest time currently I could stay in Thailand? What Visa should I get first to initially enter the country, and then when that expires can I get an extension of that Visa or switch to a another type of Visa? 2) And then - If I do want to ultimately apply for the Retirement Extension - What Visa sequence is recommended that would let me stay as long as possible before switching to the Retirement Extension? I have further questions but would like to get up to date on the above first. Thank you for all help.
  13. If this is about not annoying the neighbors as you state rather than selfishness, it is very simple to solve at no expense. You tell your neighbors "If the music/movie sound from my unit is ever too loud for you, please knock and let me know. I will be glad to turn it down." Asking what is "acceptable" is asking what the legal limit is before the police shut you down. This is different than not wanting to annoy the neighbors.
  14. You and your gf watch movies and you need to soundproof. OK. Invest the money instead in an audiologist appointment followed by both of you getting whatever hearing aids will help you both to hear well without forcing your neighbors to hear with you.
  15. You have the right to hear music. That right ends at your neighbors ears. The solution is headphones. Acceptable level is your neighbors not hearing your music, and vice versa. (Although it seems to me that you do not intend to honor their right to privacy and the quiet enjoyment of their home).
  16. Everybody who wanted to know if toofarnorth has sympathy or not, please raise your hand. Bueller...Bueller...
  17. What happened to former Poster of the Year nk73278992 or whatever, who always knocked Hua Hin?
  18. I opened mine here after seeing recommendations on this forum. Did not have anyone accompanying me.
  19. Adding to the Hall of Shame, in Feb. 2021 a quarantine hotel in Chon Buri threatened to sue a customer after he posted pix of the cockroach leg in his food amid other complaints.
