  1. All cleared after the Hong Hong Express flight actually took off an hour after it is reported to have.....
  2. Now nine......
  3. There are also 2 further flights doing loops further south.......
  4. I saw the EVA flight too high to land so I checked my planefinder radar output and sure enough, it did a big loop over the airport before landing. Now there are 4 planes doing tight loops over Lamphun...... Something is stopping planes landing.
  5. It is reckoned that mental maturity isn't achieved until approximately 26-years old. Those that have been exposed to unlimited smartphone and social media use from a teenager on have surely been mentally affected and the consequences are here for all to see. The movie Idiocracy (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808) was prescient.....
  6. The method used to extract excessive ear wax here is through suction. They prescribe 4% hydrogen peroxide solution to melt/soften first. Just buy a bottle of 4% hydrogen peroxide from any chemist and use it in the same way you would olive oil back in the UK. That may clear it up, but worst case a 5 minute job at a hospital to fix.
  7. We have a meter connected to the village supply for our residential block but stopped using it 10 years ago because when they back-flushed the filter system they didn't bother flushing it clean before turning the output on again resulting in dirty water, silted pipes and stuck meters. I took it off and reversed the connections to blow out the crap a few times after being told if it gets stuck have to pay for a new meter. My wife's niece's village supply stopped - the half inch supply is obviously silted up, and is now under lots of concrete road - the guy responsible said "cannot do". The stop cock is now broken and the pipe weeps slightly. I connected their house to our deep well dual tank and pump system, after rodding all their pipes. As yours is encased in concrete (why do most Thai constructions go for permanence rather than consider potential repairs?) I guess all you could do is unscrew the top glass to get at the gears to give it a clean.
  8. Thanks, that would suit most people but I am a bit of a luddite and don't do mobile banking, grab etc. I didn't like having to pay 550 baht when I visited 2/3 years ago and as the green songteaw goes to the airport, I'll try that.
  9. Am flying into HH and want to take the 20 baht? pickup bus into town - where to wait at the airport?
  10. I don't look at Lazada much, but a search sent me there today and it literally says "SAVE MORE ON APP"........
  11. Or get a cheap android off of shopee - I bought my wife an Oppo mid-range (A74-5G) phone for 2,300 baht.
  12. More likely to be web v app prices. I used to do all activities on the desktop but now only put items in the shopping cart and use the app to place orders in order to get free delivery and discounts etc.
  13. Why the exclamation mark at the end of the title - isn't media reporting supposed to be based on fact, not opinion?
  14. To confirm, Bangkok Bank freeze the first 400K. You can obviously still use the amount above, which is what I am doing. In the case of Bangkok Bank the required annual statement for the income method takes at least a week to produce.
  15. We buy a lot of items through Shopee - probably 30% from China, which can be significantly cheaper (50%+) than a Thai Shopee outlet, Nothing to do with discount vouchers, which equally apply to the Thai Shopee outlet's products. Actual Thai brick and mortar shops can't compete with Thai Shopee outlets, let alone Chinese ones. Of course, this does not apply to Thai made products, which can be significantly cheaper from the source through Shopee compared to actual shops, for example, tea from Chiang Rai.
  16. I didn't imply that local businesses are subject to this tax, on the contrary, despite this tax, their markup without being subject to this tax is still more expensive. Of course, they may be subject to a different tax on large imports.
  17. How does applying/raising taxes on these low value items help local businesses? The same products may well be available in local shops, their business model being, buy it from China and live off of the markup. Even a 30% tax wouldn't make them more attractive. All this will do is increase government revenue - or are they going to use the not insignificant funds as a 'social welfare project' for 'favoured' businesses?
  18. While there are published rules regarding the minimum 40K per month income visa extension method, you should try to make your position 'bullet proof', i.e. make sure that you deposit at least 40K every month without fail. As you are just starting this, have 400K in the account at least 2 months before applying. It has to be in one account - don't involve a different account that doesn't completely meet the rules. As you are banking with Bangkok Bank, they have applied stricter rules, i.e. in order to receive a letter to Immigration regarding your account there must be a minimum of 400K for 4 months, which they will then freeze for 5 months thereafter. A friend uses the income method and has had difficulties with IOs when relying on the averaging and even different monthly dates of transfers in CM. He even had Bangkok Bank employees telling him his funds up to 400K would be frozen...... I would suggest that if you want to open another account for this, don't use Bangkok Bank.
  19. I doubt Trump will go through with it as apparently Iran has already cleared airspace corridors for their missiles to pass through to Israel.
  20. How is this related to Chiang Mai?
  21. Haven't used Lazada for quite a while. I find most Shopee shops to be responsive and positive when any issues arise. I've had missing items sent, unacceptable items fully refunded and in the few unresolved disputes, Shopee siding with me and giving a full refund.
  22. Horses for courses. My (UK) grandson got into tinkering with cars, influenced by his other grandfather, and now has a workshop job at Citroen. My wife's nephew, now 16, has been tinkering with motorcycles with his mates for a few years and now has a job at a motorcycle repair shop. My (UK) daughter is thinking about her sons' futures - I suggested getting them interested in electro-mechanics and electricity now (they are 10 and 5) because if they have a decent understanding of how most things work they will have skills that could become critical in the future.
  23. Someone allegedly hacked into a UK government system. The facts stop there. The whole article is just a 'fling mud at China' opportunity written by the BBC, who were 'just doing their job'.
  24. Why is it now mandatory to compose an imprecise, click-bait style headline for articles? The UK didn't "send" these tourists, they decided under their own volition - and, the UK officially left the EU years ago - for those using EU instead of european....
