  1. Macron says "vote for me". Thai black magic has said that Europe will become Islamic. It seems that will be the fate of western Europe. The east will resist. The 'great' western civilization has run its course - it managed to last approx. 600 years, but, as with all empires, it lost the plot through hubris. The caliber of the current so-called western 'leaders' says it all.
  2. I've extracted a comparison of Aprils 2019-2024: This year, while the max temp per day has not been much different from usual, the minimum temp has been unusually high:
  3. "So what's your angle regarding the hot spell in Thailand." That question? I answered it!
  4. It obviously is hot, 40.6C today - hottest I have recorded, but not out of the norm for April/May. The same conversations will be had next year......
  5. The relative humidity always goes up after sundown because the air temperature drops and consequently its ability to hold water vapour reduces, causing more moisture. Our bodies are very inefficient at remembering such things. Every summer 'feels' hotter, when the reality says otherwise. If the weather men of the past had calculated and reported the heat index, it probably wouldn't have been any different from now. If the current ice-age cycle goes to its normal end, with the poles then becoming ice-free, a lot of that water will be air-bound, probably putting paid to most of mammalian life - humans for sure.
  6. Yes, I know humidity has a major effect on how we humans feel and are endangered when it comes to higher temperatures. If I had a wet bulb thermometer system I would add that, but I don't. The humidity monitor I had failed after a couple of years. From occasional observation I would say that the humidity hasn't changed much year on year, it going up during the evening, and with rain obviously having the biggest impact. 31% in my house now.
  7. I'm interested in obtaining facts when looking into phenomena. Trends can then be identified and used to debate what is occurring and why. From what I can see, there is no maximum temperature increase, which the media shrieks and we think we feel. There is an obvious rate of increase of the minimum temperature during the cool season, so a kind of increase is occurring. Another fact is that the planet is at the end of a period of ice-age (there is still ice at the poles to prove it), so getting progressively warmer shouldn't be a surprise. Have humans impacted the earth's climate? Probably, we have dramatically changed approx. 90% of the biomass. Is the burning of carbon-based, so called 'fossil fuels' an influence? maybe, but there are other more significant influences beyond our control, such as solar activity. There is also the impact of 'global dimming', i.e. pollution we have generated in the atmosphere. I remember when a few scientists were blaming CO2 and the politicians didn't want to know because there was no perceivable positive they could gain from it. Human inginuity being what it is, we have developed a whole new economy for those with power and influence to take advantage of, so here we are.
  8. 20 minutes south of Chiang Mai city center. As I said - the immediate environment has not changed in any way that would effect the readings during the 5 years. Here is max min and average per day:
  9. I have recorded the temperature every 15 minutes since 11th Jan 2019 at 5 different places around and inside my house so as to get an in-the-shade reading (no single place is in the shade all year round) as well as in direct sun. Each sensor is in its same environment - nothing has changed to skew readings during the 5 years. The daily minimum temperatures are indeed rising, at least obviously during the cool season. Here is at 6am and 10pm.....
  10. I've been recording the temperature in and around my house every 15 minutes for the last five years - this it what I can see to date: Lowest Low per Year 9.562 8-12-2019 9.750 27-1-2020 11.750 14-1-2021 12.562 31-1-2022 13.125 8-1-2023 13.812 21-1-2024 Highest Low per Year 27.625 7-5-2019 26.187 26-7-2020 27.187 20-5-2021 25.937 19-7-2022 27.500 20-4-2023 28.625 29-4-2024 Highest High per Year 39.625 5-5-2019 40.500 22-4-2020 39.375 17-5-2021 37.937 28-4-2022 40.130 8-5-2023 39.560 24-4-2024 Lowest High per Year 23.312 8-12-2019 17.937 25-1-2020 18.625 12-1-2021 23.937 18-12-2022 24.687 13-3-2023 23.060 26-1-2024 While this year may well get hotter, the only trend is that it is getting progressively less cooler, especially in the cool season.
  11. While that would get the seller the tax money, it is out of the customs & excise control, so surely not the solution for them.....
  12. This is obviously aimed at the huge amount of Lazada and Shopee parcels direct from China via the delivery services, not via the post office. I guess it will be up to the delivery guy to collect the tax payment upon delivery, or else how is it supposed to work?
  13. The wife did this for me in the past - went to Imm. and told, get a new passport. As others have said, too many potential problems without.
  14. A minor anecdote: My daughter leases a Hyundai hybrid. Last summer, while I was visiting, we got into the car with children in the back, the 9-year old behind the drivers seat. When my daughter switched on, on it's own volition, the driver's seat reclined fully onto my grandson's legs and there was nothing we could do to make it stop until, after it decided to 'behave' again.
  15. For your stated use, I recommend a Raspberry Pi 4 or now 5. The wife and I have been using these for years. Cheap, low power usage and simple to use. https://th.cytron.io/c-raspberry-pi-main-board/p-raspberry-pi-5
  16. Wow - that's got to be a record for a troll post on AN!
  17. As you already have an aerial that I know works with many, probably all, of the DVB-T2 set top boxes available, maybe just get one for about 400 baht, as it seems your TV digital receiver is being 'fussy'. I remember that I couldn't get an Aconatic digital TV to work, so attached one of these boxes to the aerial instead. You just plug it in to an HDMI port.
  18. Have you tried re-tuning the stations with the 'no sound' aerial attached? What signal strength levels are shown?
  19. So you just need a replacement aerial. I just bought the cheapest I found on shopee for a TV that is in a room shielded by 2-storey building to it's north and it works well. https://shopee.co.th/เสาดิจิตอลก้างปลา-5E-Thaisat-i.268591061.4441773633?sp_atk=f7265be7-4718-422e-9059-92e799b80db5&xptdk=f7265be7-4718-422e-9059-92e799b80db5 I have previously re-used old analogue aerials for digital TVs and they worked fine, but this room's position needed a 'proper' one.....
  20. To clarify, you no longer could watch terrestrial TV when the analogue signals were turned off 1st January 2018, or you have been able to watch TV, on what would be a digital TV, since then until your aerial exited stage left recently?
  21. Did you use to watch TV on it before the analogue signals were turned off a few years back?
  22. Assuming your TV isn't digital - an analogue, then you will need a digital box and maybe an antenna. Lots of choice on shopee: https://shopee.co.th/search?facet=11045446&keyword=dvb t2&noCorrection=true&order=asc&page=0&sortBy=price
  23. Yes, I should have said extension fee. It is about time for a 'cost-of-living' increase though - my barber has doubled his price to 60 baht over the past 20 years...... I'm more concerned about the 'minimum in the bank' being doubled again......
  24. If I remember correctly, the visa fee went from 500 baht to 1900 baht, so this supposed increase is similar.
