I left early yesterday morning. I bought a one way ticket for SeaTran ferry and bus to Surat Thani (THB320) as I didn't know how long it would take. Depart Nathon 07:00. Arrive Donsak 08:30 Depart on bus 09:00 Arrive Surat Thani around 10:00. I asked to be dropped off near the Land Transport Office. 4th Floor...Reception checked documents and given a ticket number. Was seen, documents checked, charged THB505, and given a receipt by 10:20. I was thinking to myself, "This is gonna be quick." Then the lady told me to come back at 13:00. With time to kill I went off to buy a bus and ferry ticket back to Donsak. Phantip Travel is about a kilometer up the road, but I flagged down a tuk tuk. I took a chance and booked the !3:30 bus. 13:00 was sent straight to the window, picked up my IDP. Took another tuk tuk to Phantip's shop and waited for the bus. It stops right outside the shop. Back to Donsak, 15:00 ferry and back home by just after 17:00. i also noticed that there is a Department of Motor Vehicles in Surat. I don't know if they would also issue IDP's. The one in Samui certainly doesn't. HTH

Update: Went to Lipa Noi last with both licences and 2 copies of new passport and visa page. Told I needed a Certificate of Residence. Went back today with documents and Cert of Residence. Was then asked, "Have you done the test? Do you have proof?" Luckily I still had the screenshot on my phone. Was then called for photo to be taken and ten minutes later walked out with new DL's. So it's not just a case of turning up with both licences to change the passport number. Off tomorrow to Surat for the IDP. Let's hope that goes smoothly.

I always carry a few thousand baht in cash with me, even though I normally pay my bills in supermarkets by scanning QR codes. However. Twice this week, Makro and Tops, those QR codes would not work, (This payee cannot currently receive payment. Or something like that), and I had to pay in cash. Also this week I did some haggling for cash and got over 40% reduction in price. I knew they were asking far too much (THB110), as I currently had the same things on order on Lazada for THB40. Cash is still king in my book. I don't know how true this is, but my GF told me there are always problems paying by QR codes at the end of the month in Makro.

Yes. he does speak Thai. I often watch his Youtube videos where he talks about things Thai and farang, or about life on the farm. He is a reformed alcoholic who I think settled for country life to get away from the temptations of Phuket. He portrays quite a happy, easy going lifestyle, but he does have a few small businesses on the go, such as selling Lion's head mushrooms and supplements online to bolster his income. He seems like a nice guy who has found his happy spot with his wife and young children. Good for him.
