It's only getting worse under "Queer" Starmer. And before any of the woke brigade jump in on me using the word queer, I am not using it in the gay sense. Rather there is something odd about this Prime Minister, who blindly refuses to listen to the chorus of complaints from the public about unfettered, illegal immigration and it's effects on society as a whole, the perks scandal and the winter fuel allowance uproar.

Thailand’s debt drive: Putting the brakes on cars and homes
phetphet replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Just before Covid, every Thai seemed to be buying a brand new pick up truck. Mostly with a loan. Even then I think many were repossessed. I'm not surprised that the bank's are tightening up on lending money. They must have a whole heap of homes and used vehicles on their books. -
The streaming quality was bad, and at the beginning quite a bit of buffering, but that improved once the fight started. It has also been mentioned in the Press that the quality left a lot to be desired. As for te fight, it was sad to watch a once powerful fighter who struck fear into many opponents, reduced to being taunted by a loudmouthed Youtuber, 30 years his junior. Still. At least he walked away with a ton of cash, and no injury to speak of.

How much do you pay for health insurance?
phetphet replied to rudi49jr's topic in Insurance in Thailand
My last invoice to cover 2024 was $4814 in-patient only. .I expect it to jump this year as I had a motorbike accident. Very expensive, but what can you do? They have you by the balls if you want decent cover, and at 66 age is against me. -
I hope so.

Sadiq Khan Calls Out Trump’s Racism and Extends an Olive Branch
phetphet replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Oh it's diverse alright. More diverse than ever. I was back in London a couple of weeks ago. Each time I go back it feels more alien to me. New skyline, shops and restaurants I knew either gone or changed use, whole blocks torn down and replaced, foreign voices in languages that I can't even begin to recognise. By that I mean you can sort of tell if someone is speaking french, italian, spanish, arabic, russian, swedish etc., but this time there were many languages where I couldn't even guess what being spoken. Lots of druggies, and homeless on the streets as well. On the bright side, the recently opened Elizabeth Line is amazing. It makes getting across London far easier. -
I would love it to be Tyson, but at the last outing against Roy Jones, he looked slow, and a shadow of his former self. His speed has gone, but not his power. Years of smoking weed must have also taken their toll. I would love to see him teach the young loudmouth a lesson though.

Discover Thailand’s dreamiest beaches for your next getaway
phetphet replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Chaweng Beach was once very beautiful, but after over 30 years of unchecked building, littering, and sewage, it is now only a shadow of it's former self. The sea is dirty, and the reef just offshore has been devoid of sea life for many years, and many of the trees removed to make way for the hotels. The white sand now polluted with tiny bits of charcoal from countless fires. The southern end is a little cleaner, due to there being no reef at that end, so the waves clean it more. i often think the authorities should import one of those sand cleaning machines they use in the South of France, and give it a good wash and filter. i can clearly remember being amazed at the beauty on my first visit back in the early '90's, and being warned to be careful of Stonefish in the sand in the shallow waters inside the reef. I doubt anything living there now. Pattaya beach, Koh Lipe was another that was way up there in the beauty stakes, far better than Lamai in my opinion, but that also has been over developed. -
Bangkok Adapts 'London Model' for Traffic Congestion Fees
phetphet replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
No need to employ more staff. Just have the police collect the fee, in cash at junctions coming into the city. -
Dream on. If you want to look anything like that image you posted, you will need far more than a sex change. Probably thousands of dollars of extensive plastic surgery, and still the likelihood of failure. Maybe rent a hooker for one last hurrah before you have it cut off. A pleasant last memory in case you miss it. On the upside, you might find a nice Malaysian husband to bang you and take care of you. But you might be expected to do all the washing, cooking and housework.

Controversy Over ‘Mx’ Titles: Young Pupils and Gender-Neutral Teachers
phetphet replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I certainly wouldn't want any child of mine going to that school, or indeed taught by any of those teachers that now refer to themselves as Mx. Wokeness is appearing everywhere now. -

Visa Agent, Koh Samui, Surat Thani
phetphet replied to Aussie999's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
There is a Visa Agent office literally right outside the Immigration office in Samui. It's in the little row of offices on the right as you walk towards immigration building, opposite the coffee shop. I think it is this one, but not 100% sure: https://hdvisa-thailand.com -

OP. Did you try changing UK server to another UK one? I had the same trouble awhile back, and I just changed to another one and it worked. -
I'm pretty sure a lot more would buy live here if they could afford it. Quite a few buying property and opening businesses in Samui also. If I recall correctly, there was an article here on AN a few months ago about a Chinese owned, illegal housing project that was shut down by the authorities on a mountainside in south Chaweng..

Transferring money into Thailand
phetphet replied to jayboy's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
If you send it by Wise, it might be worth checking with them about which is the cheapest way to send it. I think for larger sums their fees tend to be higher, so maybe sending in three or four smaller tranches, could possibly be cheaper. Obviously more exposure to exchange rates, but best to check with them. Another thought to consider if it concerns you: Gifting some of it (say school fees) to your partner, by sending it directly to their account, and letting them pay the school could possibly reduce any tax liability for this year. Others might be able to chip in here with more info. on this. -
Thai Drinks launches 100m baht campaign to boost local tourism

In other words increase the price. Not sure how Crystal telling people they connect them to blue spaces will increase sales, but their marketing team obviously know what they are doing. -
Thailand Targets Eight Million European Tourists for Record 2024
phetphet replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I flew back from the UK last week and the flight was full. Mainly tourists. November always seemed to be a quieter month, being between October half term holidays and Christmas, but here in Samui it still looks pretty busy. This constant increase in tourist number isn't sustainable. As constant development ruins the more beautiful places, there will be less attraction for many tourists to come here. Not everyone is a monger. -

Should I Tell My Friend That His Girlfriend Is Trans?
phetphet replied to JK-Trilly's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
If he is talking about having children with her, he obviously doesn't know. Unless they are planning adoption. If it was me, I would want to know. Maybe he has no idea. Or maybe he doesn't care, but if he is 100% heterosexual, he probably wouldn't like being led up the garden path by this partner. And that is the problem here, the possible deception if she hasn't told him. I knew a guy that was seeing a ladyboy here while on holiday, and had no idea. Once he returned home, he invited her to go visit him in his country, and asked for a copy of her passport to aid getting her there. Once he received said copy he said "There must be some mistake, this is a man's passport. I need your one." This led to some shock on his part when the light finally went on in his head. Needless to say, communication went dead from his end after that. -
Noisy neighbour in the gated town house
phetphet replied to villageidiotY2K's topic in General Topics
A Thai guy near me who occasionally has a penchant for singing Thai karaoke (badly and loudly) on his Bluetooth speakers, with all the windows open. He is actually a friend of my GF, who texts him to tell him how bad his singing is, and suggests western songs to sing. e.g. Whitney Houston Somehow, one night he connected to his next door neighbours bluetooth speakers instead of his own, and gave them the shock of their lives when his voice blasted out. -
