  1. There used to be really good opticians here in Samui called Sawang Optical. They moved to Chiang Mai, and people still used to order from them. https://m.facebook.com/SawangOpticalChiangmai/ I believe they also have one (or members of their family) in Siam Square area Bkk. I have tried to find it when there, but could not.
  2. With cheap Thai and Burmese labour, I wonder if he will lower his prices.
  3. He is 74 now and according to doctors at the Police Hospital in ill health. Would he really want to get back into the affray at his age? Surely he has enough money and wouldn't want to risk upsetting the apple cart again.
  4. What's an unlicenced VOIP? I thought with those things, you just downloaded an app or bought a VOIP phone set and signed up for a service.
  5. I am not more moral than you, but will give my opinion. Firstly. As for why some people obey, it's probably a bit to do with upbringing, education, perhaps having a strong moral compass, or a desire to be a good member of society. Secondly. Many of those laws and rules are made for the smooth operation of society, or to improve or protect the lives of its members.. e.g. The yob in the flat upstairs might like playing loud music all night long, and think that it's his right to do what he wants in his property.. But what about the poor neighbour living below him with young children, who has to get up and go to work? Where your world view is wrong is that if everybody did as they wanted, the whole system would break down. Why write a book, if everybody is going to expect to download it for free. The same with movies, music and software. The system only still works because a large number of people are still willing to pay. Even paying for sex I suppose. If no one did it, what would happen to prostitution? Don't forget the other side. Not all sex trade workers are willing participants. Human trafficking is bigger than ever. Most road laws; Motorcycle helmet, insurance, drink driving (MOT in the UK), using a mobile phone while driving etc. are for your and other road users protection. Streaming stations such as Spotify and Tidal, and radio stations all around the world, all pay a royalty for every time they pay a song to that particular artist, or whoever owns the rights to that song. Some artists do sell the rights to their back catalogues. The other side of it is that artists get their songs listened to by millions of people who might then go and buy their albums. Massive publicity for them. I'm not sure how libraries work, but they are not breaking any laws. HTH
  6. i found ExpressVPN customer services to be quite helpful when having problems. Sometimes a VPN's servers get flagged by the tv companies. Express have four just in London if I recall correctly. that's without all their other ones covering the rest of the UK. I found that trying their other servers usually resulted in success. A bit trial and miss, but I almost always managed to find a connection.
  7. I am streaming ITVx at this very moment on my iPad using surfShark VPN.
  8. Easy enough to make yourself. A few videos on Youtube. I find it to be inconsistent wherever I try it. Either too oily, too spicy, chicken chunks instead of finely chopped chicken.
  9. Just like the badly thought out cannabis laws. No forethought on what unforeseen consequences might possibly occur.
  10. But isn't there a rule that any income brought into Thailand more than 12 months after it was earned is no liable to taxation? Are you saying that is now being changed?
  11. Why should foreigners be paying tax in Thailand if their home country has a double tax agreement with Thailand? Government services and infrastructure? What a laugh. The electricity blacks out all the time, We have water trucks to deliver water because water pressure is too low to reach us, the roads are full of potholes, and flood every time it rains. They want to charge you double to enter National Parks It's alright paying a fair share if you are getting something for it. They'll probably get more revenue from expats because many Thais don't pay tax anyway. I wonder if they will change the rule on not taxing income brought in if earned the year before? Because that could also be a way around it. Also. Bringing a lump sum in readies each time someone returns from home, could put them under any earnings limit.
  12. Eliminating the odd spy or dissident is a Russian thing. Kim Jong Un just doesn't care who he kills in his own country. Probably North Korean runaways in other countries too. He had his half brother killed in Malaysia a couple of years ago. He is a paranoid "wild card" nutcase in my opinion. Most western countries have likely eliminated someone for vengeance or to suit their aims at sometime or other. i.e. Osama Bin Laden. But to assassinate a Head of State is a whole different kettle of fish that could cause more problems than it's worth. Russia is virtually a mafia state, so you could end up with someone far worse.
  13. Don't totally rely on PTFE tape. There are often joints that just won't seal using it.. Buy some pipe jointing compound as well. Rectoseal from Lazada is what I used. The one thing I couldn't find here was a hank of fibre (used to use horse hair in the old days) to replace the PTFE tape.
  14. Thailand still has many animals, reptiles insects etc that can be harmful. Snakes such as cobras and vipers, Rare big cats such as Tigers and Clouded Leopards, Scorpions, Giant Centipedes, Scorpions. Even elephants can kill you. Mind you, the most dangerous is one of the smallest. The Aedes Egypti mosquito, which can carry Dengue, Zika and Chikungunya. I live in a residential/ tourist area, and we often see snakes. Mostly harmless tree snakes, but occasionally cobras. even a three metre python. The locals quickly kill them. Even in the countryside a lot of wildlife will be killed. Either because its considered dangerous, or because its considered edible by the locals. if you intend to go off path exploring the jungle, either go with someone knowledgable, or go prepared. Even in the popular tourist places such as Phuket and Samui, there are often news reports of people going missing after wandering into the jungle, getting lost. and either being rescued or found dead. To get the best experience you would be better off booking a guided tour in one of the many National Parks in Thailand. What I will say, is that even living in a touristy area, the birdlife is a whole lot more colourful and beautiful than what I was used to in London. Kingfishers, Eagles, bright yellow Orioles? All a lot prettier than pigeons and Sparrows. Bring your camera, and enjoy.
  15. Thinking about it, seeing as the app went down on Friday night, it won't even be looked at again by those who maintain it, until Monday morning. So maybe back up and running tomorrow.
  16. Thanks. That is the same message showing on my screen.
  17. I keep the Thai app on my iphone as I imagine many others do, that provides a record of all my COVID vaccinations. Last night I received a notification via the app that seems to have locked it up. I can no longer open it. Has this happened to anyone else? I am reluctant to delete and try to download again, in case I lose all the info. You can see the app in the screenshot. Green one, bottom right, showing that is has received a notification.
  18. I'm just recovering from a similar thing. Had a couple of plates inserted two weeks ago. Back to see surgeon tomorrow to have stitches removed. So you still aren't walking without a cane or crutch after almost six months? Wow! I didn't think it would be that long. I am 65. I hope it doesn't take that long for me. Funnily enough I have been thinking about the problem you are talking about, though I don't yet have it. It could be that uneven weight distribution is putting stresses on one side of your body. Thereby putting it out of alignment. Also. What I have been doing while I am on my back is stomach crunches to try and maintain some strength. Can't do many other exercises at the moment due to injury. Sorry, but I don't know anything about peptides. HTH
  19. Unfortunately, this is just as likely to result in a confrontation here in Thailand. It might be misconstrued as asking if there is something wrong with them.
