BYD outsold Tesla nearly 10 to 1 last month in Thailand.
I see that trend continuing, I wouldn’t want to be holding Tesla shares now.

Just drove my Seal Performance AWD the 15 kms home from the dealership.
My initial impression: Wow! Better than I could have ever imagined. It feels like a million dollars. I’m going to follow BYD’s recommendation and take it easy for the first 2000 kms, so it’ll be a while before I can run it through its paces.
As for the colour: BYD call it Velocity Blue. It’s a bit of a stretch to call it anything blue. I would describe it as a mixture of blue, violet, purple and grey; it changes colour depending on the ambient light. Certainly not flamboyant; quite restrained.
The colour is unusual, for sure. Luckily I like it, as it was not at all what I was expecting.
Great to hear, please keep the reports coming e.g. was there a sun shield for the glass roof?
We paid our deposit for a White Seal Premium on 29th September (The price was announced at 6pm on 28th September) Seem to be plenty of performance models available - discussed with the wife if we haven't heard anything by the end of this month, we will ask if we get a AWD any quicker

I think I will see if some tape around the speaker to stop it being annoying inside the car, failing that will unplug it.Recently was in a car park when an Atto 3 was cruising looking for a space, it certainly got some strange looks as the sound is loud outside ( as it should be I suppose ) , I personally don’t need the attention .
A selection of normal sounds would have been more accepted I think, just a beeping sound like a reversing truck would make more sense.
My MG makes a unintrusive sound like a spaceship which is perfectly acceptable to me. Not sure if it's a generated sound or a slight whine from the electric motor, but ice cream van sound - really

From quickly watching the first video I noticed at about the 27:40 point in the video the Seal has a healthy spaceship sound (i.e., the pedestrian & soi dog warning sound). Gosh, I understand the intent of the sound but both the wife and I find that sound to be annoying. I guess all the BYD models have that sound below 30KmH unless the little sound box behind the radiator gets unplugged not that I would ever do that.
If the Thai version is the same as the EU version, I will be selecting the "Ice Cream Van" jingle and see how many kiddies come running at the sound 😇

Scots couple rage after being handed £17k bill from Tesla for 'driving in rain'
https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/scots-couple-rage-after-being-31194155
Maybe they have a different type or rain In Scotland compared to Thailand
This story is only a couple of weeks old. In other versions Tesla is reporting to be investigating the incident - maybe we can reserve passing judgment until we have all the facts (might be a challenge for some)

Electric train users get goosebumps after listening to this. Rats chewed through the battery. Repair cost 600,000 baht.

Some Brands use Iron, aluminium, carbon fibre for their battery covers this brand uses plastic
this type of fault isn't covered by the warranty so owner either pays or claims from insurance
I have translated the article you posted and it makes no mention of the vehicle from which it comes. It does say that 99% of EV batteries do not have plastic covers.
sounds like a nonsense story to me
My battery is structural and is enclosed in Aluminum.

sorry for asking, but I couldn't find it in the broschure.
is it 80% and not 70% ... like many other brands ... ?
You could be right - I seen online reviews saying 80% but I can't verify that information on the Thai official site. The Atto3 is quoted at 8 years/160,000 kilometers
SOH ≥70%- 1

Just ordered my second EV so will have 2 in the house running on solar.
Latest car has a 82.5kWh LFP battery which is warrantied for 8 years - if the battery drops below 80% capacity in that time it will be replaced for free. The car also has 8 years of warranty and 8 years of 100% free servicing and breakdown cover.
The car has V2L (bi-directional charging) so I can use it to support my home solar system or charge my other electric car and electric scooter.
The car has an 650km range and drives like a sports car. I am definitely “enthusiastic” about it.

you could get an electrician to run cable from a small consumer unit via a breaker to the post where the meter will be installed and PEA will attach it to their meter
Have you checked with your local PEA office that they will allow you to have a second meter as a TOU?

1) What does BYD supply ( I suspect charger and 40A breaker only ).
MG supplied just the wall charger. The installer supplied the breaker box and cables back to my closest consumer unit in my mech room
41 minutes ago, Andrew Dwyer said:2) What do the BYD installation crew actually install as I have read for a nominal fee (9k) they complete installation ??, also installation can be outsourced for around 20k ?
Usually 15m of cable back to a source of electricity consumer unit for me - TOU meter for you. You pay extra for longer cable or different spec. The installer will come and do a site survey before the installation41 minutes ago, Andrew Dwyer said:3) When charger installation finished and PEA return to fit TOU meter do they make the cabling from meter to distribution box or should that be readily available from charger install.
( seen 15m cable is free and any longer is charged but don’t know who’s responsibility this falls under )
You are responsible for cable from the meter to the house. Maybe the BYD installer could do it or you could get an electrician to run cable from a small consumer unit via a breaker to the post where the meter will be installed and PEA will attach it to their meter.- 2

I chose not to join the Solar Rooftop feed-in program as at the time the rate was a Buy-Back at 1.68 Baht/KWh. It has now been raised to 2.2 Baht. I had single phase electric as I planned to go off-grid. The max PV was 5kW with 10kW for 3 phase. Inverters had to be on PEAs approved list. This was a few years ago and may have changed.
When I bought my first EV I did look at TOU because I was told that I couldn’t use solar with the supplied EV charger.
I don’t think TOU makes sense unless you have a high nighttime load like EV charging.
PEA rules vary by office and even within the same office. Not much you can do about it.
I have had my meter changed 5 times as it wasn’t moving they thought it was broken. I have been accused of breaking the meters with my solar even though my grid connection is permanently switched off. I have also been accused of spinning the meter backwards (to the same reading every month) each time I ask for a digital meter. Over 5 years now still waiting.

Leading Chinese EV maker is setting up shop and cutting fast into Japan’s long-time dominance of lucrative Thai auto markethttps://asiatimes.com/2023/10/byd-blowing-by-japan-for-thailands-ev-market/

If you own a Japanese ICE vehicle you would be sensible to sell it while it still has some value.
Here in Thailand last month EV sales were over 10% of total vehicle sales: Chinese EVs 6,007 ; Tesla 375; Japanese EVs 19

How does it compare to your MG 4? Considering it's what, nearly twice the price?
I’ve test driven both and my opinion of the MG 4 is that it’s a great little family hatchback. A little slow off the line, but fine once it’s going. It’s practical and great value for money. So why did I order a Seal Premium at twice the price, because it feels like twice the car. It is luxurious and polished and a joy to drive. If you want a car that gets the job done competently, then go for the MG4, but if you want a car that brings a smile to your face every time you drive it, then buy a Seal.

"EVs don't work for people who live in apartment buildings - how are they going to charge?"
You will certainly have seen statements like this, but it's nice to see the that condos in Thailand are now being built with EV charging built in.

I picked-up my performance model on October 3. 579 km driven so far, tomorrow will be the first trip to BKK - we will see which side he consumption surprise will fall.
Some day soon I will make a little write up on to good, the bad and the ugly of Seal ownership - suffice to say I have no regrets, but there are as always some disappointments.
Did you find a sun blind for the glass roof? My sales girl said it's included.
