  1. I highly recommend the YouTube channel of "The Critical Drinker" for an amusing take on Hollywood and the stuff they're putting out. I never recall being disappointed watching the movies he recommends.
  2. Too many unknowns... Are they providing a WP, and also providing health care insurance and schooling for the family? This is a topic to discuss with trusted friends who know Phuket, in person over dinner. Not so much in an open forum where a lot of the input comes from trolls who wish they could actually get paid to live in Phuket.
  3. I thought this thread was going to be something else. I was curious what the second J stood for...
  4. What are you planning to drive with the motor? Also, the nominal speed of the motor (wound with 2 pole, 4 pole, etc.) I know it's a speed inverter, but the approximate speed you want is a handy number to have...
  5. I worked for a couple of companies that got taken over by the MBA bunch. Their calculus seemed to be that if we cut costs to the bone, we have a 95% chance that we'll make a nice bonus and a 5% chance that we'll destroy the company and we'll just have to look for another job. In our case, they did devastate the companies, but at least nobody died. We just had to sell off most of our facilities and lay off most of the employees. In fact, GE was in our mix, and things went into the toilet under their accounting geniuses. They had no clue how the business worked (and quite well for decades). They managed by the formula. Not hard to envision the same level of ethical turpitude going on at Boeing after the MD bunch took over the reins. On a related note, looks like United is also in the hot seat: The Federal Aviation Administration will take a closer look at safety at United Airlines after a string of nearly a dozen incidents this month, the airline said in a memo Friday. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/03/22/business/faa-united-airlines-safety-incidents/index.html
  6. It's going to be years before we know if the long term effects of the mRNA are a net positive or a net negative. It'll also be years before we know whether shutting kids out of school ruined more lives than it improved. I'm pretty sure we already know how stupid it was to close restaurants while letting liquor stores stay open. But I'm open to new data. Though they lost me when they banned walking on my beach in the middle of winter, which is how many of us get our exercise. The useful idiots are the ones who take as gospel the narrative that's being spoon fed to them without critically examining simple stuff like how they know long term results when it hasn't been a long term yet. And more complicated stuff like conflicts of interest and asking what the vax skeptics have to gain, compared to the vax pushers who have gained $billions.
  7. Is that like one of those CNN polls where they asked CNN listeners what they think, and from that they concluded that Kamala Harris is a fricking genius? I'd read the link, but it doesn't work.
  8. I started using Flyco brand electric shavers living in China and that's what I bought in Thailand, from Lazada. I also bought one in the USA from Amazon. I've been very happy with them. They seem to last around 2 years before the rechargeable batteries go hinky and refuse to charge or do something weird like turn themselves on. But 2 years for the low price has been acceptable to me. I've had Philips and Brauns that cost 3-4x as much and crapped out faster. Knowing what I do about China, I suspect they're all made in the same factories anyway. I won't claim that any electric will get as close a shave as a wet razor. I shave in the shower using body soap, shampoo or bar soap-whatever's at hand. I also shave the top of my head, being a cue ball. The Flyco's are fine for day to day. If I'm out to impress a babe or a professional colleague, I finish up with a few swipes of a twin blade disposable razor. Obviously, YMMV. Edit: I stay away from the super cheap models and the 2 head models.
  9. Otherwise, they'll need to add maternity wards and childcare centers to the women's prisons.
  10. Lefties only acknowledge jury verdicts and court judgments (including SCOTUS rulings) when they agree with the decision.
  11. It won't be the Repubs trying to change your mind. A Taylor/Minnie ticket wouldn't be taking votes from a conservative candidate. The Dems, OTOH, are sweating bullets about an RFK Jr or other 3rd party ticket. Count on even more dirty tricks from the DNC against RFK Jr and any others. Maybe Biden will call him Broke Bobbie.
  12. Referring to Trump as " Broke Don" reminds the voters that Dems have no qualms about bankrupting anyone that disagrees with them or challenges their power. In fact, they're bragging... And voters don't want to be next when they step out of line. Rates right up there with Hillary's deplorable statement for political stupidity. "Deplorables" cost her the election. Broke Don. What an idiot.
  13. It's a shame they screwed the pooch so bad on the last go-round. On both sides of the pond. I don't think the people will trust the gub'ment directives for at least a generation.
  14. He'll never learn. At least not by November. Every time, Trump's numbers go up.
  15. I'm with Viva Frei in betting she's gone long before Trump goes on trial. The legal pundits (not all Trump fans) think the judge wrote his ruling in a way that makes it almost impossible for the inevitable appellate ruling to come down in her favor. He did it that way to keep her blood off of his hands for his re-election in a few months. For the most concise summary I found, here's a video from Viva Frei: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BNje_AhXRg
  16. Look at a map and find the closest border to Moscow. Preferably a country not friendly to Russia. Belarus would send them back... That leaves fleeing to Ukraine as the best option. Sad for them, the FSB probably figured that out...
  17. It's an election year. Donations and votes are the only thing they care about. I wouldn't be surprised if they're quietly raiding the Strategic Petroleum Reserve too in order to suppress the price at the pump before November. Remind me, who was in the WH when Putin took Crimea? And who was in the WH when Putin took Donbass? And who was in the WH when Putin was strangely quiet in between those 2 Dems?
  18. Here's a tip. Stay away from Silom in Bangkok. This was last year's Songkran, and not even a busy evening. I'm sure it got wild after my bedtime. Personally, I enjoy the heck out of watching people enjoy life, if only for a few days. Especially the kids, and even the drunks.
  19. There's a program for that, Bob. Works pretty good. You even have the right name... One of the founders was Bob Smith. We may call that a God Shot...
  20. Look up the difference between Charlie Hebdo, and the non-incident in Dallas a few weeks later. I say non-incident because a couple of armed Texans made sure it didn't happen. Otherwise, it could have been just as bad.
  21. Yeah. It's amazing what dumping a few more $trillion of our kids' money can do for a short term bump. To convince the peasants they're better off, though they can't afford food, fuel, or rent. Much less a mortgage. Just out of curiosity, how many square feet can $39,476 buy, given current home prices and mortgage rates, compared to how much the same portfolio would buy under the bad orange man? Or closer to home, how many Big Macs or pounds of beef?
  22. Hardly a fact. It's not the hard work. It's the low wages, perpetuated by the constant availability of mostly illegal workers. Offer Americans $100k a year and see how many would gladly get hot and dirty. Which is, of course, a ridiculous wage. (Albeit a California lefty wet dream). But it demonstrates that it's not a labor shortage. It's a wages issue. And if they did offer a living wage, food prices wouldn't go up any faster than they already have under Bidenomics. Edit: Corporate donors would see a drop in profits. Which is why it'll probably never happen, no matter what damage is done by the wide open borders.
  23. Trump won't. But Biden has from election day to January to pardon his son. He won't do it now, because it would be catastrophic for his re-election dream. But as soon as the election's over...
  24. That's kind of like asking whether I should buy a screwdriver or a hammer. I'd buy the Maktecs, both circular saw and grinder. I had great luck with Maktec power tools in Thailand.
