That's only because you can't file charges against a sitting president. First, he has to be impeached. Which the Dems were never going to vote for. The reason they need to impeach him before prosecuting him is to ensure there's always someone at the helm not distracted by a prosecution.

In a truly functional system, they'd use this opportunity to raise hotel and other tourist taxes to invest in improving the resource. Things like solid waste, water and sewer, roads, etc. Tourists unable or unwilling to pay the higher prices can go elsewhere. That would help restore the balance. Sadly, if they did raise those taxes in Samui, the extra money would be siphoned off and they still wouldn't improve the conditions for high end tourists and the locals. And they'll continue their race to the bottom, based on body count and not on quality. And trash will continue to pile up and water will continue to smell funny and front end alignment businesses will continue to thrive.

If we ignore the past, they'll try it on again next time.
