That's not accurate. There is a list of jobs that foreigners are not allowed to do. But foreigners can do jobs that Thai people can do, as long as the job is not on the restricted list. The foreigner needs to have a work permit, which requires their employer to pay 4 Thai people for every foreigner on staff, and pay income tax on 30,000, 50,000 or 80,000 a month to keep the WP renewed, depending on what category the work falls under. (there may be other categories that require paying income tax on lower or higher amounts. Agriculture, for example). If a foreigner couldn't take a job that a Thai could do, there would be no Lao farmworkers, Cambodian hotel maids, or Burmese fishermen. Or any permutations... For most of us from the nanny states, the biggest hurdle is competing with Thai employees who generally work a lot cheaper than we're accustomed to. Unless we have a special skill.

As long as they keep finding discrepancies in the voting rolls, especially when they number in the millions of invalid voters across the country, I don't care if it's the Dems or the Repubs that bring the cases to court. Strangely though, the Dems don't seem to want to clean up the voter rolls, or require signature verification, or voter ID, or do comprehensive audits of results, or disqualify machines that even CNN calls "insecure". I wonder why? So it's up to the Repubs... Actually a subset of the Repubs.

I don't trust hotel safes, so I keep my passports and cash on my person. (I never worried when I lived in Bangkok because I kept them in the pocket of a tux I hung in a tux bag in the closet. Lower back pain is what finally sent my GF to get looked at. She'd been ignoring it for awhile because of the lockdown situation, and difficulty getting in. We're all wishing she'd gotten in sooner, perhaps before it spread... Taking that as a sign, I got checked out in Samitivej where they gave me a clean bill of health. They did find some anomalies on my x-rays, but they referred to x-rays from 5-6 years ago and no changes. Told me to come back in a year for a checkup. Well worth the 10,000 baht (+/-) for peace of mind. (And that's an expensive hospital, but they and Bumrungrad have my history and I flipped a coin). Edit: I'd add that I'm still considering going for a 2nd opinion from Bumrungrad, because TIT and my life is worth more than $300 to me. I was generally extremely pleased with the level of care from both hospitals, but it never hurts to have a second opinion, especially for a few hundred $$. Back home, $300 would probably not even cover my Medicare deductible.

But in a turbulence incident, innocent people who did everything right are often among those who get hurt by flying bodies. Seat belt warnings (lights, not buzzers) wouldn't just protect idiots from themselves. They'd protect everyone from the idiots.
