  1. We need to understand the fundamental principle of law enforcement in Thailand. The aim is never to stop an illegal activity, it is to profit from it. You can't apply on the spot fines if you prevent crimes. This explains most of the 'enforcement' activity we see here.
  2. I prefer deodorant only to antiperspirant .... I think trying to stop sweat is a challenge in Thailand (and possibly inadvisable?), but stopping odour is my key aim. Boots currently have a clearance offer on Ted Baker deodorant.
  3. Lower (numbers) Sukhumvit .... so Chidlom/Ploenchit/Nana. Central Embassy branch is good, as mentioned earlier - helpful staff, not too busy. Soi 33 branch is the main one for special services, such as certification of inward funds for condo purchases, but it tends to be very busy.
  4. I wonder how many similar warehouses there are in in other regions? Anyone who's been to Bangsean at night, for example, will have heard the continuous fireworks until dawn. They are sold by a 'beach vendor mafia', who I doubt will have safe or licenced warehouse for the fireworks.
  5. Unfortunately the 'government' will just let the local people eat cake.
  6. There can be many reason for a perceived lower crime rate in Thailand, and perhaps the generally honest behaviour of most of the population could be a factor? But the effectiveness of the police is certainly not a factor, as their uselessness is legendary. But that's not a Thailand specific issue, the UK police are equally useless, as highlighted by news reports today showing 95% of reported crimes in UK go unsolved
  7. The Aetus Hotel ..... forced to close down 2 years ago. Not demolished, but legal notices and barriers at the entrances.
  8. I've also been looking at the Subaru, but I have no direct experience of the brand. The Forester looks like excellent value .... it's a class above the HR-V being closer to a CR-V in size, it's very well equipped and has four wheel drive. Prices start at 1.2M.
  9. Central Department Store in the Central Mall. I know Central Chidlom in Bangkok have them, so I guess Central Pattaya should also have them. They also have an App so may be able to order on-line?
  10. Seems reasonable to me. While suffering a heart attack, he fell onto a chainsaw then into a freezer. Happens everyday.
  11. Paddock are on Lazada, and currently have O'Neil helmets on sale. Happy with my O'Neil Sierra after a year of use. It's a Falang shape 'oval' rather than the Asian round head shape.
  12. I thought they'd said they would never form a coalition with any party involved in the coup government?
  13. The Move Forward leader has just done a press briefing (Channel 32 now) and he's explaing in English for the international press how the two main opposition parties will have enough to form a majority government. Interesting times ahead.
  14. Ah .... thanks for the clarification. That's what happens when I try to follow current events on Thai language news ???? I'd better switch back to Auntie BBC.
  15. My understanding is that they need much more than 50% to overcome the rigged election .... as 250 'seats' are the non elected military appointees? If we factor up the votes at the 30% count stage, and assume the three military government parties of Prayuth, Prawit and Anutin form a coalition, then add in the 250 seats, it looks like the top two opposition parties combined will be about 20 seats short. So may depend on how the smaller parties respond to coalition requests.
  16. Didn't the man making the video commit an offence under The Computer Crimes Act?
  17. A Thai language commerce chat bot would be quite simple to develop .... Answer to every question: "Mai mee"
  18. Sad to hear this. Such a knowledgeable and helpful person.
  19. You mean Chang Water dresses, surely? Promoting beer is illegal. ????
  20. What a sad indictment of the police and autopsy processes. This should have been stopped after the first death.
  21. I'm not sure it you're being sarcastic or not. There's a TV ad showing a classic Airstream caravan sporting a Chang Cold Brew logo, three guys drinking from Chang Cold Brew logo cooler cups, and the voiceover says 'join the Chang Cold Brew club. Chang may claim it's an ad for cooler cups, a caravan or a fictitious club .... but it's obviously an ad for beer, and part of the 1 Billion THB advertising campaign. Are we also supposed to believe Singha spends millions promoting 7 THB bottles of water and 15 THB soda?
  22. I used Mazars Thailand, they have an office in Bangkok. They were very efficient and helpful. They're not the cheapest, but their costs were only a comparatively small component of the entire process.
  23. I had a similar experience in another international hospital further up Sukhumvit. Visited as a day patient for some minor surgery, had a good work insurance policy at the time. Doc kept asking me how I felt, asking about any other issues, I foolishly mentioned some lung surgery from years ago, and how Bangkok pollution can give me a cough. I was whizzed in for an MRI, lung function tests, chest X Ray and they were booking a bed before I literally walked out in disgust. They were clearly looking for ways to spend my insurance allowance. In contrast, the same hospital the year before, treated my girlfriend (now wife) for a serious of case Dengue, all covered by my credit card. She watched them closely, and the bill was very reasonable. Having insurance seems to be the trigger for a feeding frenzy.
