  1. The wife ..... she's a real version of Joi from Bladerunner 2049.
  2. Light colored ventilated mesh jacket with back and elbow pads from Paddock at Huai Kwang, Bangkok .... not expensive, but probably only good for low speed tumbles, but the reflective finish helps keep me cool .... ish.
  3. Long distance journeys to visit farms around rural Thailand carrying bulky equipment, then muddy farm tracks - where 4X4 plus a diff lock is handy. Sometimes carrying several passengers too.
  4. If interest shown by people at the Motorshow is any guide .... it looks like EV sales will be up next year. Of course visits to stands may not translate to sales, but the busiest were the Chinese EV displays. We're in the market for a new car, but it probably won't be an EV due to our specific needs, but the cars with the most interesting designs and innovative features were definitely the EV's.
  5. Is that a question or a sermon? If a question: 'Yes'.
  6. Brave and responsible passengers and bus driver, police ..... not so much
  7. I still haven't got my refund for 2 flights they cancelled during COVID. How did you get this dodgy company to give you the refund?
  8. Looking to replace our Nissan X-Trail 4WD, which has been excellent.... but very few options on the Thai market. We drive quite long distances for work and do regular visit to farms - so a 4X4 SUV is needed. Subaru Forrester is a possibility, but Subaru have stopped production in Thailand, they've not not brought their new model to Thailand and they were not even at the current Bangkok Motorshow, so I think they'll withdraw from Thailand soon. Honda CR-V - high cost and looks delicate (and low) for farm visits, Fortuna - poor ride quality, Mu-X - very truck-like ride and interior, Pajero Sport - based on the older model truck, new one must be due soon, Everest - comparatively expensive, feels huge, looks like fridge, Nissan Terra - great value, smooth ride, nice interior .... but concerned about Nissan's future. So that leaves the Chinese ... and the GWM Tank 300 looks impressive and I was impressed with it on a short 'motorshow car park' drive .... but it's an untested brand and a complex hybrid system may not go well with Thai farm mud. Also, with so many Chinese brands entering Thailand, will they all stay long term? We're down to a short-list of two: Tank 300 and hope it's reliable and tough enough (my choice) Nissan Terra - and hope Nissan can restructure and survive in some form (her choice) Leaning towards the Terra, as a diesel with a proper auto box, and based on a truck, should be tough, and it's the smoothest riding of the truck-based SUV's.... and Nissan offered a great PX deal. Analysis paralysis is setting in, but I feel the whole auto market is about to go through a dramatic change.
  9. Logical too .... a simple barrier to reduce airborne particle spread. A much better option than wrecking economies and forcing businesses into bankruptcy with lockdowns. The practice of wearing a mask in public whenever you have a cold or flu was common practice in Asia long before COVID.
  10. Excellent information - thank you everyone! I'll use the commercial software, and for 23/24 I may not have any tax in UK as I only had the property for a few months in that year. This year they'll be tax, and I guess my UK Gov pension will also need to be included.
  11. I (think) I need to file a UK tax return even though I may not need to pay any tax, as I have a property rented out in UK. But according to the UK Gov website I can't use the Inland Revenue on-line form as I'm non-resident. The website says I need to purchase commercial software to file the return. This seems strange as there's also the 'free' system on the Gov website .... but for UK residents only. Looking at the hundreds of commercial tax filing systems listed on the Gov website, the prices start around £60 GBP. What have other members done? Purchase the commercial software, just use the free UK one using a UK address, use an accountant, not bother? Seems wrong to have to buy software just to pay tax! (Also serves me right for being honest about living in Thailand with my gov pension .... no annual rises and I have to pay to file a tax return.)
  12. These numbers look very low for everywhere except maybe Australia? The figures are based on a survey, not official data. I guess many "ex-pats" on tourist visas and/or maintaining a UK address for pension or banking purposes, will make any figures for ex-pats highly inaccurate. Only 41,000 in Thailand? There must be more than that in Pattaya alone?
  13. From the Line Home Screen, click the gear wheel top right. Select the Backup Chat history option. Backup to your Google or Apple account. Set up Line on new phone. Do same as above, but select Restore.
  14. Small crystals can form in the inner ear and cause severe dizzy spells. The Epley Manoeuvre (special head movements) can help, there's lots of YouTube videos on how to do it. I take Merislon if the Epley doesn’t work, and this helps but makes me feel drowsy. But there's many causes of vertigo, so recommend you see a Doc.
  15. การซ่อมบำรุง
  16. Increased NI payments come out of profit, not revenue. Still a decent amount of money, although UK supermarkets are quite competitive, so margins are lower than in Thailand for example, where CP have a clear leadership position. .
  17. The only food product recalls I've ever seen in Thailand was a few during the melamine in milk issue, when some baby foods and other milk products were recalled. Big contrast to US or UK where there's typically 10 or more recalls a day.
  18. Because he will let them have Ukraine
  19. A few years ago I did that mid-life crisis thing of riding a Harley across North America, and based on the people I met, I think Trump will win. Everyone I met on my trip was friendly and hospitable, but the standards of education, critical thinking and international outlook was much more divided than we see in Thailand. The more 'worldly' outlook was confined to the coastal regions of the East and West, and that big region between the coasts was very different. As foreigners we're exposed to the people and culture of the East and West coastal regions, but the rest of the country is very different, and that's where Trump gets traction.
  20. When did Kathmandu become part of India? I think Nepal may want their capital back.
  21. Yes, the same airline never paid the promised refunds when they cancelled flights during COVID. Untrustworthy business with poor customer service.
  22. I heard the same dog also found a million baht left in a taxi and returned it to the owner.
  23. Well yes, he should certainly be on the 'not allowed to breed (yet again)' list. There should be an IQ test before anyone is allowed to have kids. And the planet is not running short of humans, so set the bar high.
  24. Unfortunately smart people are having few or no kids while the uneducated breed like rabbits - causing reverse evolution through survival of the dumbest.
  25. Looks like UK has a 1984 style propaganda department. And the official 'Newspeak' language will replace words like 'Islamic terrorist' or 'radicalised' with 'mentally ill' and 'abused'. "Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered".
