  1. Consider this. If a branch of a country's government responsible for the majority of major crime; drug trafficking, human trafficking, etc, gained control of the entire country, would it be a good thing? Not talking about Thailand of course...

  2. Not trying to criticize, but since there was an injury and damages, you should have followed up when it happened. They were likely waiting to have to pay you, and when you didnt come forward, they figured you were an easy touch so are trying to shake you down.

  3. Look at it like this. They sell a ponf of coffee for about 300 baht. A pond of coffee will make around 90 cups of coffee. They sell their cups of coffe for an average of 90 baht. 90cups x 90baht = 8100 baht, from a 200 baht investment (wholesale). While they are doing this they are paying their staff a max of 30 baht an hour. Obviously their profit margin is huge. But a rip off? Over priced? yes. But if you choose to pay it, it is not really being "cheated". I hate the mark up, but to be honest, I would be happy to own a Starbucks and make a fortune.

  4. Not sure, but my guess is that because there are so many self-proclaimed tough guys here, willing to work cheap, there ay not be many good jobs in the field. May be best to apply with the high tier companies rather than a protection agency.

  5. I have a brother-in-law with a pickup. Message me with the details and budget and maybe I can hook you up.

If you head to Thonglor between Soi 10 and 8 is a guy with a truck and sign on the back for moving stuff. He is there almost everyday. You cant miss it, its a vigo pickup with extended rails on the side, silver colour I think.

Failing that get someone who reads Thai to have a quick look around your neighborhood on the electricity poles etc, there are usually signs with a mobile number for moving stuff.

  6. "I count 7 unsubstantiated claims"... really??? This is my experience and opinion. If you want "evidence" you are welcome to follow me around with a clipboard for a few month. Next to you post anything, be sure to cite references to prove the validity of every comment....next.

It is sad that (1) some schools complain about the low quality of teachers, and (2) the reputation of SE Asian English teachers has taken a hit over recent years, but it is often (3) the schools themselves that weed out the good teachers by treating them poorly, until (4) many of the remaining applicants are low-tier. Of course, (5) many applicants are unskilled, unreliable and dodgy, but it is the schools responsibility to screen their applicants. (6) Agencies and language schools have put the final nail in the ESL coffins. (7) I have met several teachers who did the math and their teaching clients brought 100-150k a month into the company, while making 25-35k for the privilege. Not all language school owners are rich, but one will never make good money unless they are the owner.

I count 7 unsubstantiated claims in that paragraph.

There might be some truth to a few of the claims but this is the rant of someone who really should be doing something other than teaching in Thailand. Life is just too much of a burden for them.
