  1. Yeah ^^^, my thoughts exactly 😞 Have a word with your local bike-taxi chaps, many if not all can drive a car and will be more than happy for some sort of semi-regular work. You may even be able to put together an on-call "team" who can assist on an as-and-when basis. I would imagine some sort of "retainer" payment would be required. Any neighbours who seem to be home all day?
  2. PC power supplies, moreso those from brand names, are very safe, I don't recall ever seeing one fail in a way that would be actually hazardous, of course that doesn't mean it's never happened. IMHO the risks of an unskilled person opening up the mains section of a PC far outweigh the possibility of an actual internal fault. On an Apple product is it even possible to open the power supply?
  3. I'm not sure if anyone has suggested this, but since you have a 2-pin plug in the wall try just reversing it in the outlet.
  4. And this chap recommends that you don't 🙂 Have you managed to locate anything that could serve as a make-shift ground?
  5. OK, let's say that the balance of probability is that it's just leakage via the mains filter. What is YOUR solution??
  6. Do you? How is my posting here any different to yours? And yes, my WP covers my activities at my current location.
  7. In this case we do know the leakage path, it's the mains inlet filter that keeps the nasties from the switching power supply from getting into the wide world, hence the usage of the term "functional earth" it's needed for the device function correctly rather than safety.
  8. The amount of leakage concerned here would be way too small to operate an RCD/RCBO although having one would enhance the general safety of the electrics.
  9. @george Your PC needs a "functional earth". Any way to get a connection to the "earth", a short rod in a flower bed outside the window? A metal water pipe or balcony railing? It doesn't need to be a very good earth. Otherwise just keep your Crocs on 🙂
  10. @Thaifish despite having an application in for an export meter got caught spinning his existing disc-meter backwards. Got a no-reverse meter.
  11. Uganda apparently has three lighthouses 🙂 https://www.ibiblio.org/lighthouse/uga.htm
  12. A few thoughts: - As you are DIYing you will never get approval to export to the grid. This being the case I'd go for a hybrid inverter which can run in parallel and also do grid-sync. Do perform an energy-audit. Panels are relatively cheap, so don't skimp. Batteries are not cheap, but can be easily expanded if you need more run time. Aim at having your panels on a car-port or ground mount if you have space unless you design your home with a flat and accessible roof area (see @Bandersnatch threads and home photos).
  13. I bet it's the "I have no financial interest in this land" letter, it's a legal requirement. Since we married Madam has made a number of land transactions (all with her own $$$) at three different land offices. Only one actually asked me to sign anything. Note that my lady retained her maiden name so no farang names involved.
  14. A member sent me this, worrying viewing for those of us who like the odd glass of something with dinner: -

  16. A blonde from the city decides to move to the country. She buys 5 acres of land and decides to grow chickens. She goes to the hatchery and orders 500 baby chicks. Two weeks later she goes back and orders 500 more. Two weeks after that she goes back and orders 500 more baby chicks. Finally, the owner just has to ask. Lady, I know you only have 5 acres what are you doing with all those baby chicks? The blond says, I just can’t get them to grow. I don’t know if I am not giving them enough water or if I am planting them too deep”!
  17. Have a read of this thread. It's worth defining exactly what you want a system to do, there are many options.
  18. I've used these people in the past both dentists I've seen speak passable English. The receptionist doesn't unfortunately so you will need a Thai speaker to call. GPS 13.990654753036202, 100.5817412248436
  19. Have you checked on Lazada? One of several sellers https://www.lazada.co.th/shop/fofo/
  20. Found my original tests: -
  21. Then there's the "screw into the concrete wall" technique, usually using a plastic wall-plug to ensure insulation.
