  1. Everyone opposed can always petition the World Bank to reject the loan and instigate the road that was followed by the loan bill and how unconstitutional it was.

It is not Thailand that makes the ultimate decision on the loan, just make the World Bank aware of the actual level of corruption here and they will give it consideration.

There are many other countries that deserve that money a hell of a lot more than Thailand.

Is it the World Bank that will be providing this money? blink.png Because In 2009 there was an article saying they themselves were running out of money?

  2. My personal experience of this “ change of thinking “ regarding the US dollar is seeing immigration officers at the borders of Thailand and both Cambodia and Myanmar rejecting dollars like as if it's some kind of monopoly moneygiggle.gif

Even with everyday commercial transactions in Cambodia, eight years ago, everything was about the American dollar and you would have been laughed at for even considering trying to use the local currency the Riel.

Now it's almost the direct opposite with shopkeepers and traders becoming more and more reluctant to use American dollars.

  3. Isn't about time that Thailand uses modern means or even old fashioned disks that are in use for 30 years around the world to check upon the working hours and the rest that bus and lorry driver takes. Everybody knows that professional drivers should take a rest after 3 to 4 hours. As soon as the authorities start fining the companies they work for with monster amounts the number of people killed on thailand's road will half at the very least. It won;t happen. Thai Chinese and Thai Indians who own almost all of these companies have only one thing in mind. A dollar Sign.

Tachograph way to go!!! then your 150 Baht bus trip half across the country will cost you 2000 baht + a few more hours, yeah, way to go!

You are talking complete and utter rubbish! bah.gif You are implying that to keep costs low there is no alternative than to simply accept buses that are run by cowboy outfit's which is irresponsible

If you look at paragraph 6 the NCA website you will see all their buses are equipped with GPS satellite, black box devices to record incidents as well as the speed being monitored from a control centre. And on virtually all their journeys they have two drivers.

Their ticket prices are still inexpensive and nowhere near the amount that you are implying.

If NCA can provide decent standards, there is absolutely no excuse whatsoever for the Thai government not to impose these as minimum standards on all other bus companies.

  4. I am surprised that this has not been officially reported in the new Thai Visa Cambodia section.

I would like to see something more official and at least a credible link rather than it "evidently" being reported.

I will be seriously miffed if I can longer get my lamb shank meal for $6.95 and the Merlot has increased from $5 a bottle.

Yes it's taken a lot of people by surprise

I read it on a long thread in the khmer 440 forum last night but I am not allowed to post the link here

The thread is entitled “ Massive price increases and inflation to come.”

But you will read about the anxiety of many expat businessman in Cambodia who have been badly hit by this and who still have goods waiting at the border for many days

  5. So now it seems that it's official that Thailand is cheaper than Cambodia.

Evidently the Cambodian government has just introduced a 50 to 60% tax on imported goods to Cambodia. The Cambodian government/customs dept has stopped all cross border import operations nationally.

They did this without any prior warning and there are tons of goods sitting in containers at various border points. It even affects foodstuffs

  6. I have absolutely no idea why “ Loles “ the previous poster denigrates Budget like that because I successfully rented a car through them one way and there was absolutely no drama whatsoever. I was very pleased with the service in every regard starting in Pattaya which they even delivered to my condo and they even collected it at the condo at my destination thumbsup.gif Yes, they thoroughly inspected the vehicle at the other end but gave me the green light very quickly. You do have to pay an extra charge for doing this but it is considerably less than taking the vehicle back to the original location. I thoroughly recommend Budget

  7. Someone today asked me for my “ line identification “but I said I didn't have one.blink.png

Can anyone please shed some light on exactly what this is?

I haven't become involved with it because I don't know what it is even though I have seen people quote their own number. I must be terribly out of the loop on this.sad.png

But I manage to survive quite well with my mobile telephone number and e-mail address. I never bother with Facebook or Twitter , and I never will.bah.gif

  8. A 74 year old male caught stealing, or suspected of stealing a 210 baht goat cheese pack and thrown in a holding cell for how long?

What sort of jail sentence and fine can this guy expect, insane. The financial hardship caused to the owner must be negligible.

This is nothing more than a petty crime. Just pay the 210 baht and walk.

You must be joking ?! Where is the penalty element in that?rolleyes.gif

I have heard some establishments in Pattaya will agree to accept 10 times the price as compensation when a shoplifter is caught and thereby its kept away from the police and the perpetrators record

  9. try explaining that to the electorate

Dont be silly old Somchai sitting next to his rice field in Isaan will understand it perfectly and i am sure will be discusing it with his group over lunch.biggrin.png

old Somchai cant afford lunch because he hasnt been paid yet sad.png

  10. Yes that is still the best option and normally it works fine. Best if done during a workday so a check can easily be made if required but in most cases it is still routine processing taking a few extra minutes as long a fine payment is available.

Sometimes you read about people who have been denied the right to exit Thailand because of some pending court case such as that British guy who was involved with litigation with his landlord in Bangkok.

So if it only takes a few minutes at the airport for them to process a long overstay, how do they check that no similar limitations have been placed on somebody?

  11. Bought it from a vendor in Khlong Toey for 3 years now. 350THB a bottle. Use it for my coffee mostly. Shelf life is as long as it takes for me to consume it so can't speak beyond that.

When friends come to visit, I give them a tablespoon first thing to get the microbial differences of the region into and working in their system. Out of 12 visitors, only one has fallen sick while here. I make them go slowly to better acclimate.

Regarding pricing an old lady asked me to pay her 500 baht for a bottle but then I told her I could buy a plastic bottle about the same size which was full of honey produced under one of the King of Thailand’s projects for 250 baht, which has various certificates on the label.

She immediately dropped the price to 250!laugh.png

But then yesterday another street vendor was willing to accept 200 baht , which got me thinking about the whole thing that prompted my original post.

  12. I always buy form the street, to be sure what you get! Pure honey, I have never smelt the fuel said to be used to pacify the bees, Honey is a natural antibiotic, has antioxidants, antibacterial, anti fungal, etc. I wouldn't worry about buying it from the street but I WOULD worry about the processes involved in packaged honey, it can lose it's effectiveness during the heating processes, as well as have things added that you don;t want and really DON'T need!

I always wait for the old man to pass buy with that VERY rare forest honey comb! You're lucky you have the CHANCE to buy it! smile.png

I have to admit I have never experienced this smell eitherunsure.png

  13. We buy ours directly from the guy that comes and collects bee hives from our orchard. Small "Hong Thong" bottle 200 baht, large 350 baht, Hong Thong labels still on the bottle. We know that it's the real thing.

It's amusing how many people in this thread have bought into the corporate mantra that implies if you buy something in an air conditioned environment with elevator music playing in the background it must be really healthy and totally genuine.

Bryant's results were astonishing: virtually all drug store honey and small individually packaged honey served up in fast food outlets does not contain pollen, and 76 percent of the amber stuff sold in America's leading supermarket chains is likewise devoid of this telltale evidence of its origins, and therefore does not qualify as honey by the FDA's own standards. On the other hand, all of the samples bought at farmers markets, coops and health food stores were infused with the traces of pollen that proved it was real.

... But there are other reasons the pollen gets removed, including the desire to conceal where it comes from, and lace it with cheap additives. Since pollen's source is local blossoms, the type of pollens found in honey tells botanists where the honey originated, and whether it is authentic.

If the guy sitting on the pavement selling honey is surrounding by buzzing bees, at least we know the bees find it worth investigating.

    Thank you Suraditthumbsup.gif

yes this is the question that has been in my mind.

Whereas most people who have replied are implying that it is the honey sold on the street that may contain impurities and may not be the genuine product, I have often wondered whether it's the other way around and whether it is the honey bottled in a factory like environment that we should be suspicious of?ermm.gif
