Thai Airways Among World's Top Ten Airlines in 2024
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Flown most and still enjoy Thai. Have a good connection to the West from local town. Good times, Love the staff who have to put up with miserable foreigners. Emirates, Qatar are nice but haven’t got the patience to mess about changing planes, plus they’re pricey nowadays and routinely charge silly money to pick a normal seat. -
Alcohol Sales Prohibited in Thailand on July 20-21, 2024
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
😴😴😴 All about choice, chap. Powers that be ban it here because of face / being seen to toe the line. It is conformist, controlling and has a detrimental effect on their cherished tourism. Doesn’t bother me either way but guaranteed they will also be on it like normal people… not that this government is normal. -
British yoga teacher stranded in Bangkok airport over passport tear
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
It’s not stained, that’s how the design is. Looks like a combination of carelessness (visa issue, damaged PP), overzealous IMM officers, and a Mickey Mouse airline. Par for the course for the no-empathy boomers to pour scorn though. Course, they’ve never had issues with too many entries, banned stamps, looking like they’ve been dragged through a hedge etc 🙂 -
Foreigner Caught on Video Urinating on Busy Phuket Street - video
daveAustin replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Big difference between peeing on your car tyre on the side of a road, or tree, than openly peeing right in the middle of a busy street. Dogs do that! -
Up to you, but all that border bouncing, alarming number of stamps and unknowing (whether they'll let you back in) won't be for many. Early days and can't see it reverting back to how it was. Used to do the 30-day bounce and it was a bit of fun when one was a 'kid', but as one ages and has ties, all that messing around is just a pita. Extending a non-o is a hassle, but is a few hours faff once a year.

Also on BBC: "The prime minister said that he did not want this incident to affect Thailand's image or have an impact on tourism" https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3g3prgzzjpo I wouldn't be very happy if I were a relative or friend and read that tripe. What a pathetic robot! -
10% of Thais Engage in Heavy Drinking, Report Finds

Of those that come forward. Reckon it’s a lot higher than that. Thais are bigger pissheads nowadays than my own ‘brethren’. -
Musk wants to build flying metal suit

Oppenheimer not a great example, changed things but at what cost and that would have come sooner or later. Not modern, but Newton is and always will be the father of physics as we know it and has probably had the biggest impact on modern human history. Einstein is Einstein and went further, but all had a stepping stone. Musk's bunch will still rely on Newtonian physics and calculus. -

Well, he always thought of himself as the real iron man. Someone called him a fool and perhaps a bit of waster... hmmm. Have a look around the SPACE-X factory and his input on the Raptor engine, for example. Not my favourite martian, but the dude is well driven and certainly no thickie. Quite brilliant really. -
Irish terrorist engaged to Thai bride 50 years his junior
daveAustin replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
What a donkey. 🙄 Won't comment on his past, but, regards the massive age gap, each to their own and many women don't seem to have issue in lying down with a wrinkly. He's unlikely going to wear her out and she's probably banking on him popping his clogs soon as these gals buddying up with ancient dudes do. One may fantasise, but personally couldn't see myself messing about with a lady more than 20y younger. All seems a bit weird, and what does one talk about after it's all done? Again, each to their own. -
Tell her fine as long as she pays, or to grow a 'pair'. 😛

Thai Govt Disputes Claims of Deserted Tourist Spots
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am News
Very droll, Mike. 😋 Of course, if the place were thumping, surely they wouldn't need to give away 60 days to all n sundry? Heading toward lowish season, but still. Recently came through Suwanaphoom and seemed easier numbers than previous years--both arrivals and departures. Was also in an, albeit not traditionally highly touristed area just now and it was pretty dead. Usually loads of Malay and Chinese visitors milling about. Perhaps the post-COVID surge is about done. Wouldn't want locals to suffer, but fewer tourists here is a plus, surely. -

🙄 Don't get that. If settled in, surely it'd be in bedrooms and bureaus? Tragic.- 227 replies

Tell us about the idols of your pre adolescent self
daveAustin replied to Jingthing's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Who laughed? 😀 I was being serious, and they still are idols, esp Bruce. WB's treatment of Cavill, who was originally overlooked in favour of Brandon, who himself was then dumped in favour of Henry is shameful... probably because he's the wrong gender now or something as equally trivial. Much like Disney, who is actually running things there? -
But you would say that coming from your side of the political divide. That is all you guys see and this type of sentiment just screams LEFT! The female in the op is gross in her attitude and pretty much everything else. I don't get it and actually find it all quite repugnant. Like to think I'm somewhere in the middle (possibly a bit right of centre) and do not like the guy, but don't believe he's anything you say here. He's a donkey, but he is no monster. He's a businessmanIt. It's mostly bravado. Rather than be angry at people, what you guys should focus on is your dodgy electoral system. There are many smart, YOUNG people in America that should be running things, but they could never hope to get a look-in with how it rolls there... you've got to be rich and a 'someone'. It is akin to a nobody brewer in Thailand trying to break into the beer industry. Impossible.

What makes life in Thailand still so great?

What makes life in Thailand still so great? #1: It is not the staid West with its now contrived prissy woke culture. -

Motorbike taxi speeds along Patong Beach, alarming tourists (video)
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Reckon tourists are only confused that a taxi rider is riding so competently. Perhaps it is stolen lol. -
Most ain't. f um. Who gives a flying one what the numpty sweaties care about? Seriously. They hate us by default no matter how much pandering and subsidising one does, so F them! If they're not speaking German they're speaking Russian. Take your ole enemy protectors out of the equation and see how you go. 😴

Shocking surge: Thai electricity tariffs set to spark debate
daveAustin replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Everything does in our piss poor, rigged monetary system, which is all figured on inflationary debt. As is the issue here, the key is for utilities to not overtake inflation / wage rises. People will continue to get poorer and poorer (can't remember correct term per capita) until we lose around half the world's population and slay all the politicians and the bespectacled. Oh wait!
