Thailand Condemns Moscow Terrorist Attack and Offers Condolences
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
What a bizarre comment. Are you feeling ok? Their country has been utterly ravaged with hundreds of thousands slaughtered, so they could be forgiven for not showing sympathy in a timely manner. -
Cringe. Who wrote this? A couple of festivals does not a global festival hub make. They’ve always done this. The word hub means less when Thai governments and their backers use it; either misunderstanding its actual meaning or just talking up nationalistic twaddle, which is a third world trait when overused. Thailand, along with Singapore, might be a hub for flights into the SEA region, but is not a global air hub etc etc.

Thailand Condemns Moscow Terrorist Attack and Offers Condolences
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It is a horrendous and cowardly act against innocent people, yet Russian state sponsored killing of innocents goes on in Ukraine on a daily basis. Thailand should also be condemning that.- 53 replies

Many folk loving up to China here and likening them and Russia as the good guys. Get a grip! This pair would bury you or have you and your way of life in chains given half a chance. Their people utterly despise their leadership. The US is no Mary Poppins, no country is (no not even Switzerland with all its dubious Nazi gold), but if they were truly a force for the bad we would all be screwed. It would be great for the peoples of both China and Russia to wake up, eviscerate their leaders and get their countries back. But they are utterly under the thumb plus there is too much apathy. Dunno if Xi will bury himself but most of the rhetoric there is for domestic consumption and to keep his people in line. And yes, the place is in a bind economically. Can’t see them ever attacking Taiwan. China’s military is a bit of a paper tiger and they’d be in for a surprise when the Taiwanese fight back hard. What’s China gonna do then, lob a nuke over? I don’t think so.

Take those illegal workers out of the equation and those jobs will unlikely get done. Been noted already, but the bottom line is Thais in general do not like to work boring and mediocre jobs with poor pay. While not inherently lazy, many will roll that way at this level and just will not do it for long unless it is their baby. There are illegal workers in every country and Thailand should get a grip and do some reforming. You can work in my country and own a house etc but I can’t do in yours. They can work legally, but Without the Burmese, Cambodians etc—who are routinely looked down upon—houses and roads are not going to get built.

Didn't you get on the wagon a while back?

I grew up in a 99% Jewish neighborhood! Did you?
daveAustin replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Indeed. Once in a while, this guy—in one guise or another—can post something of interest. But, today, this ain’t it. And, what humour? There’s really only one group that has a proper handle on it in this world. Much of the time, to others, it is so convoluted that it goes over their heads. -
Thailand collaborates with Sweden and Denmark to fight corruption
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Get your underhand and corrupt government out first then you can be in a position to talk about anti corruption with the Nords. -
I recall years ago Jim Davidson deplaning when the female pilot came over the tannoy. 😋 Wouldn’t bother me because, male or female, they’re put through rigorous testing, and to get into such a traditionally male dominated role takes spunk.

Turn off the lights for “Earth Hour” tomorrow : Bangkok Governor
daveAustin replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
It’s a nice thought but they should focus on getting people to turn up their air con a bit. Some go ott and run it flat out. Domestically, lights, esp nowadays, don’t use much juice; it is mostly aircon, hot water showers and ovens etc. The rich in massive houses and big industry with innumerable fluorescents are main culprits of electricity usage. But hey let’s go after the little people as usual. 🙂 -
Would you fight a 58yo Tyson for $100m?
daveAustin replied to Dolf's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Probably a bit of a setup... they were recently on a podcast together and a bit pally for my liking. If for real, Mike is still a beast and could probably KO him within the first few rounds, but would struggle to go the distance methinks. Yeah, I'd walk in there for that kind of money. Aside from having your head knocked off, why wouldn't you? -
Thailand is still well priced on the dental front. I wouldn't even research it too much, aside from finding a good dentist, since there are so many of them and rates are normally similar. Private is at least double gov hospitals, but you can just waltz in off the street and potentially have a pair of pliers in your mouth within minutes. Yes, that's a good thing. 🙂

Russian woman blames period for assault on pregnant Thai shopkeeper
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
Yes, she is turning on the charm there for sure. Crocodile tears next? Can only imagine that from one woman to another, you would have to be a pretty evil specimen to boot the other right in the jack & danny knowing she's pregnant, and especially over something so trivial. People are getting worse. -
To die (with wealth) or not to die, that is the question.
daveAustin replied to sidjameson's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Everyone should think about it because everyone will do it... die. hmmm. Yes and no, but not work for another! I would have retired in my 40s if hadn't missed a couple glaring opportunities, now rued. There is so much to do with one's own time, and it certainly shouldn't be to make someone else rich, which I will not do anymore. Reading, music and the arts, travel, exercise, sports, voluntary work, hobbies, building, investing, etc etc. That someone equates not being retired as 'having' to work and to use up their precious time because there's nothing else to do (usually for an employer that uses you and doesn't care about you), quite frankly I find bizarre and unimaginative. I've known of quite a few folks that live frugally but are minted and have no-one else. I mean, to what end? Why did you give up all your time to accrue that sh!t to not reap the reward and enjoy freedom? Spend it, ffs, before it's too late! -
Russian woman blames period for assault on pregnant Thai shopkeeper
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
Very cute but obviously a pig of a woman on the inside. Response should be swift. Just fast-track these undesirables out. Hoping a farang performs a high profile good deed soon (a headbutt to Takki or the smiling donkey would do it) to offset some of this bad press. -
PM Srettha pledges two-month Thailand stay amid travel criticism
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I don't have a problem with it. In fact, I wish he would travel a bit more... permanently would be about right. -
Renewing UK Passport, Proof of Address
daveAustin replied to pjbkk's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
Copy of TM-30 should be accepted as proof of address, since 'immigration documents' are listed in Table A. Others have also reported this works. -
The owner said if you speak Thai then get out!!
daveAustin replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Hating on farang that do Thai can happen, though as mentioned typically from scummy bar girl types that don’t want you understanding their derogatory bs. This scenario is a bit of a stretch and more believable if she just kicked you out for being a farang (with all the bad press we’ve been receiving of late). C’mon, Bob, what else happened, did you knock her food or grab her skirt perhaps? 😋 -
Immigration releases statement on crackdowns on foreign offenders
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Fair enough, but I don’t see the big deal, just let the police do their job already and don’t forget to arrest all the law breaking locals while you’re at it. Again if you invite in massive amounts of people—many visa-free—you have to expect some nonsense from unscrupulous types. Whatever happened to quality over quantity? -
Thai Student Activists Demand Thaksin's Arrest: Present 6 Proposals
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
👍 Kudos. That’s the way to do it. Hopefully it will wake up the rest of the country to do something about this farce. 10M pee’d off Thais on the streets might make a difference.- 26 replies

Swiss technology revolutionises Thai railways with first arch culvert
daveAustin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Swiss tech? What a joke. They are only a thing because they whimpered behind others coat tails and got paid. Old hat tech.
