  1. Apology unnecessary. This is actually a better link and references advising IPC. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/what-to-do-after-a-british-person-dies-in-thailand#pensions-and-bereavement-support-payments
  2. Trust me, they do. I have been involved (not directly!) in 30+ British deaths in Thailand. DWP knew before we advised them - infact we stopped bothering to advise them in the end as they were already on the case. I don't recall any of the deceased receiving more than one pension payment after the date of their death. The requirement in Thailand is to obtain a release from the embassy before a body can be released from the hospital for cremation. In the event of the death being at home (ie not in hospital) the police must be informed within 24 hours..
  3. DWP do receive information about death. They also receive it (or have access to it) if you return to Thailand having been in the UK and requested an increase to current levels. A friend returned to see a terminally ill relative so he advised DWP that he didn't know when he was returning. His first pension payment after arriving back in Thailand reverted to the previous level - that was before he got round to advising them.
  4. For anyone reading this.......the UK doesn't have the American "probable cause"; the UK police need "reasonable grounds for suspicion" to make an arrest.
  5. Sounds the same as when Saville said "Jim'll Fix It".... Be wary ...
  6. It is unfortunately a fact. 15th (up from 16th whoop, whoop) https://www.almondfinancial.co.uk/pension-breakeven-index-how-does-the-uk-state-pension-compare-to-the-rest-of-europe. I agree with your comment about only having the state pension. I have met a few Brits in that situation and it is obviously a struggle, even in Thailand. One guy received 8,500 Baht pm ! (when the rate was 50+). He earned good money labouring in road construction but what should have been his NICs finished up behind the bar of the Rose & Crown.
  7. ...which is ironic given that it considered one of the worse in Europe
  8. Means testing and residency requirements are the two big risks
  9. Indeed. There is no law against drinking alcohol - just illegal to sell it.
  10. Mine is OK with +44 and dropping the 0. If you have the time it is worth persevering with
  11. I think that I just downloaded the App and put a few hundred Baht on it. I think it was straight forward (anything too technical would have been beyond me 🙂).
  12. Your situation was very slightly different because stopping the pension was not related to a LC. With my 2 friends 1 was directly related to a LC....BUT, the LC had not been received in Thailand. DWP accepted phone identity/proof of life but asked that a LC was emailed back to them. The other friend's case related to unanswered post that was sent to his son's old address in the UK (nobody thought to advise the change of address). I believe that probably related to his enhanced pension following his late wife's death. He also took the opportunity to advise full time residence in Thailand. They immediately reinstated his payments.
  13. 6 - 8 Baht with MY TELLO
  14. About as convincing and spontaneous as the 500 Baht rural red shirts who descended on Bangkok.
  15. Its a netiquette term.................you will grasp it when you have been here a bit longer. Although I am not sure that you will be here very long - this time.
