    SAN FRANCISCO —

Two people were killed, dozens injured and one person was missing Saturday after an Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 crashed and burst into flames while landing at San Francisco International Airport, authorities said.

San Francisco Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White confirmed the fatalities, injuries and missing at an afternoon press conference. Initially, the chief said as many as 60 passengers were unaccounted for but at a later news conference officials said just one remained missing.

According to officials, 49 passengers were seriously injured, 132 received moderate to minor injuries, 123 were not injured, two were killed and one was missing.

Asiana Arlines said there was a total of 291 passengers and 16 cabin crew aboard. The majority of the passengers were comprised of 77 Korean citizens, 141 Chinese citizens,61 US citizens, 1 Japanese citizen.

Meanwhile, the FBI said there was no evidence that an act of terrorism was involved in the crash.

According to dispatcher for the San Francisco Fire Department at least 61 people were injured. The San Francisco Fire Department transported 13 of the injured to hospitals while the San Mateo County Fire Department carried away 48 people for treatment, the dispatcher said.

San Francisco General Hospital had received 34 patients from the crash as of 5 p.m., including 11 children and 23 adults, according to hospital spokeswoman Rachael Kagan.

A group of 10 patients arrived first, all of them in critical condition, but Kagan said that five of those patients have now been upgraded to serious condition. Two of those critical patients were children.

Later groups of patients were in a range of conditions, from serious to good. Some will be treated and released without being hospitalized, Kagan said.

The injuries include burns, fractures and internal injuries, she said.

Firefighters and emergency crews from San Francisco, Redwood City, San Mateo responded to the airport and dosed the burning plane with foam to extinguished the fully engulfed aircraft.

Meanwhile, officials closed all access to the airport for several and arriving flights were being diverted to nearby Oakland International and airports throughout the West including Salt Lake City. Two of the four runways at the busy airport were re-opened by 3:30 p.m.

Flight 214 from Seoul, South Korea was on a direct flight and was landing onto runway 28 at around 11:30 a.m. According to a witness, the plane was just about to land -- its landing gear had come down -- when the tail of the plane came off.

After wobbling for a minute, it appeared that the aircraft flipped upside down, coming to a stop on runway on it's back, according to witness Kathy Muhler.

Chopper footage from over the crash showed that the wings were still attached, contradicting the possibility that it rolled over on its back.

When it came to a halt, smoke was pouring from the aircraft. Fire crews responded minutes later, Muhler said.

Burlingame resident Kate Belding was out for a jog when she saw Asianflight No. 214 crash low on its approach to the airport.

She was running along a Bay trail near the Crowne Plaza hotel in Burlingame, south of the airport, when something about the plane caught her eye as it was approaching the runway, which juts out into the water.

"It was too low or it was too slow, or something about it just looked different than it should have looked," Belding said.

She said that when it touched down, she saw what looked like a small cloud of smoke.

"I thought that was a little bit weird, different from what you would usually see," she said.

Then it became clear something was very wrong when she heard a loud bang and saw the Boeing 777 skidding on the ground with its wings angled up in the air rather than parallel to the ground, Belding said.

She heard a second bang and saw a dark gray plume of smoke, she said.

A couple of minutes later, emergency vehicles began to arrive on the runway, she said.

She thought, "I can't believe I'm witnessing this," and ran over to talk with some people walking their dogs who were in similar disbelief.

"I run over there a lot, so you see planes coming in and out all

According to his Twitter feed, David Eun, the executive vice president of Samsung, was on the flight when it crashed.

"I just crash landed at SFO. Tail ripped off. Most everyone seems fine. I'm ok. Surreal..." tweeted Eun minutes after noon Saturday.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced it was sending a team of investigators to San Francisco to determine the cause of crash. The team will be lead NTSB chairman Deborah Hersman.

The 777-200 is a long-range plane from Boeing. The twin-engine aircraft is one of the world's most popular long-distance planes, often used for flights of 12 hours or more, from one continent to another. The airline's website says its 777s can carry between 246 to 300 passengers.

The last time a large U.S. airline lost a plane in a fatal crash was an American Airlines Airbus A300 taking off from JFK in 2001.

Smaller airlines have had crashes since then. The last fatal U.S. crash was a Continental Express flight operated by Colgan Air, which crashed into a house near Buffalo, N.Y. on Feb. 12, 2009. The crash killed all 49 people on board and one man in a house.

  2. Btw, 'Andrea Drummond'???

Was Andrew going by an alias back then?

Any thing ANDREA DRUMMOND prints is subject to suspicion. Remember the Downtown Hotel 4 deaths and he had it up in the area of 5 plus a couple more in another hotel down south years before.

Four deaths in the Downtown Inn one of which which would not have been revealed had not Drummond found a witness to them carrying the bodies out. The deaths down south were two on Phi Phi island. They were not connected - but were similarly unexplained.

  3. Finally managed to get through to CTH in Bangkok yesterday, and it is chaos. I had to let my wife speak to them because nobody spoke english. She asked about the 115 channel package, but nobody seemed to know anything about it, the only knew about the 142 channel package. She asked if there were any agents in Surin, Sisaket or even Ubon, but was told CTH will not be using any agents and you had to order direct from Bangkok, and they would send out a team to fit the satellite. So she asked about the cost, she was told it would be ABOUT 4,000 baht for dish and set top box, they didn't know if fitting was extra. Finally we were then told that they couldn't take any orders, as they would not be starting selling the dishes until August 31st, thats 2 weeks after the season starts, and they couldn't tell her how long she would have to wait to get a dish fitted.

    In Surin Contact..

Okay! I have bitten on the bullet and put my name on the list for CTH, customer No.7 to be exact. Installation is due end of July/beginning August for their satellite system. Where we live is considered out of town and the cable does not reach that far. Its a new shop and still in the process of setting up. It seems to be a husband and wife team and they were very pleasant and informative. Their advertising literature is slightly different to what is on the internet but, as they say, this is Thailand.

The shop is located in a new building, orange in colour, with banners advertising the EPL outside the shop. Coming from Prasat going into town, hangar left at the elephant roundabout and head past the Water Company Offices, the Water Tower and the Land Registry Office. Once past the Land Registry Office turn left and the shop is about 200 meters down that street on the left hand side. Their telephone number is 044-518467-8.

  4. OK I am in Laos now and just got my visa Multiple O

Flew into Nakon Phanom and was met on time by the van driver although I had to go outside to look for the Van where as it might of been more service orientated had they been there with a sign with my name on.

Van was just me, so and hour an 15 minutes to the border where they pretty much got me through in very swift fashion and onto the Casino where I was met checked in and handed over my paperwork.

When I was handing over the financial proof I said to him this is not needed Im just giving ti to you just in case to which he replied NO NO WE NEED THAT NOW since there is a new boss and he is very strict so we need the financial proof. (good job I took it just in case)

Waited at the Casino which was really bring if you don't play those silly games so all in all a good service but its pretty boring waiting fr it but at least I have a visa.

Very painless and I would do it again for a hassle free visa.

For the interest of others, what was the required 'figure' 400,000, 100,000 or proof of income ?

I gave 400k proof I will try and check when I leave but not 100% sure since I did not ask about the 100k

Was this information given to you by the casino visa runners or straight from the Thai Consulate?

  5. Starbeam Restaurant to Close in Surin August 1, 2013

Starbeam Restaurant to Close in Surin August 1, 2013

I am sad to report that we will be closing our doors on August 1st. Our building has been sold and our lease runs out September 1, 2013. The new owners have other plans for the building and will not be renewing our lease. After much discussion with my wife and Sister-in-law we will not be reopening elsewhere in Surin.

We have some land in our own village area we will be building a new Thai restaurant on for the local Thais and government workers nearby. We’ve had Thai restaurants for over 20 years and are going back to doing that rather than try to find suitable lease/rental location in Surin. It’s difficult to get landlords here in Surin/Thailand to lease a suitable commercial property for more than 2 years (and buying property in Surin proper is financially non-viable – the property we are in now supposedly sold for 10 million baht recently).

If we could have gotten another 2 to 4 year lease from the new owners we would have. Sadly they have other plans for the building.

We would like to thank all our regular, loyal, and fantastic customers who have helped make Starbeam’s the wonderful restaurant it was for Thais and Westerners here in Surin the past four years. It is with great sadness we report this news for all regarding our closing. We will close our doors at 10 p.m. July 31, 2013. The month of August will be spent removing our property from the premises to the new place in Non Sabai (about 50 kilometers from Surin).

Waen, Starbeam, Fon and I wish you all the best in life, much prosperity and happiness, and good luck and good health in the future. Thank you all for your custom, friendship, and sanuk these past 4 years.
    Chok dee krup.

  6. Driving on Hwy. 24 today. Southern Surin has a lot of standing water. At least near the highway.

Thats the way it is on the 214 south to Chong Chome border crossing. We have had for the first time in three years average or better rain for the area.

  7. ...Dragonfly, Carnival, One O One, Som's Place, Wild Boar, Sassy, Paradise, Full Moon 2, My Place Lounge, Fish Spa Bar (or whatever it's called, but it's pretty good), and several smaller ones, one of which only opened a week or two ago. And that's Loi Kroh.

Aren't all the bars on Loi Kroh hookers joints? Is the idea that one likes to have a "local" in which he can see familiar faces both foreigner (men) and Thai (bargirls)?

I understand the concept of being a "regular," but might one just try a few of these other places and find one that suits you? Become a new regular.

No they are not all hooker joints. The Olde Bell being a prime example.

How about the other 9 LK bars that he listed?

Wild Boar is a sports pub and resturant. Not a hooker bar..

  12. “Sea” Food Poisoning of 20 guests at Pattaya Park Hotel

Posted on June 24, 2013 at 3:18 pm

20 people who are part of a 200-strong delegation of company workers from Chiang Mai Province were rushed to Hospital on Monday Morning, suffering from food poisoning.

The group all work for the Niyom Panit Company based in the Northern Thailand Province and are in Pattaya for a staff trip paid for by the company.

They are all staying at the Pattaya Park Hotel and on Sunday Night enjoyed a Grand Ball. The food prepared by the Pattaya Park Hotel was, by all accounts, delicious but the problems began when senior management decided to add seafood purchased from a company located just outside of Pattaya.

Those that chose the seafood to eat on Sunday Night found themselves admitted to Hospital on Monday Morning suffering from Sickness and Diarrhea.

The Public Health Department are looking into the incident and are in contact with the seafood supplier at this time.
