  1. The aim of the protesters is to get rid of the shinaclan. Yingluck can propose anything she wants, but anything other than her stepping down will not be accepted by the protesters.

The aim for the Democrats is to rewrite the constitution to hinder or water down the weight of the votes from the Northern Provinces so they can be in power for the next 30 years. I would call that a return to dictatorship.

Don't forget, a lot of the protesters are not part of the Democrat party. Just tired of government corruption and lies. This isn't about the Democrats, though they are leading the protests. If it was just to get them back in power, the protesters wouldn't be there.

The ONLY aim of the protests are to get the Democrats back in power. Maybe the protesters just dont know that.

The aim is democracy. Not the criminality and corruption of the PTP and its family

Here's an idea. Why not hold an election and see what the electorate actually wants. If she loses the election, she won't be PM.

Even someone as cycloptic as thee can see that PTP broke Thai democracy along with several laws.

These issues need to be fixed before Thailand can move on.

Besides, any election sans Democrats will never be accepted

  3. Amsterdam is an undesirable person in any country. smile.png

Really? Have you informed the UK government where he practices as a solicitor?

Did you advise Canada? He was educated there and his firm maintains an office in Toronto?

Did you call up the US State Department and tell them that Mr. Amsterdam, who was born in the USA, must close his office in the USA?

Oddly enough, Mr. Amsterdam is regularly consulted by the aforementioned countries' government officials and political representatives. He continues to represent people oppressed in some countries and to receive platitudes from various human rights organizations. He must be doing something that makes him worth their support and/or interest.

    Pure invention.

  4. democrats would like to postpone elections until they have had a chance to run a risk scheme and pilfer billions of for an election war chest.

I find it odious that Puea Thai, or other parties, believe that because they get to form an executive to run the govt, all govt officials must toe the line on their dodgy agenda. If whole groups of govt workers feel the situation is untenable and choose to appoint a senior official to announce that stance you should start paying attention rather than threatening with the great 'inactive posting'. People are fed up with the corruption, meddling from ruling party, the nepotism, the divisiveness. Time to go back to the start and stop pretending that this is a democracy because we all voted.

Why do the Democrats suddenly have this urge for reforms?

They were in power for 3+ years with an absolute majority in parliament, but they passed absolutely NO reforms. Nothing. None. Why?

Their current cry for reforms is just an excuse to make a power grab. Once they are in power, they will do nothing, again.

If they really wanted changes, they should have implemented them when they were in power. Abhisit was PM and Suthep Vice-PM.

    Simple really.

PTP took cheating and deception to new levels never previously considered.

  5. He said 6 million at one point, which was pretty much the number of votes the Democrats got in the last election. Pretty amazing, huh?

Even if 6 million did come out, what gives them the right to tell the other 50 million what to do? Oh yeah, they are "elite" and "high so". Sorry, forgot.

Apparently 14 million votes can tell 60 million what to do

And I'm sure you're just being crass by halving the Dem's vote but that surprises me not.

  6. "Neutrality in this instance is a non-existent opportunistic chimera created purely to divert a proper analysis of the real conditions within which the Thai Army operate.”

    Well Mr Robert Amsterdam.

You should do a little research on your client (Mr Shinawatra). and you will find he has committed some rather appalling atrocities against his own people, as well as buying votes in order to seize power.

As for an "opportunistic chimera".... You are surely one yourself if ever there was one.... You just like the money and the high profile client.... You are a lawyer and would probably work with the Devil himself if the money was there..... Admit it to yourself and shut TFU.

Amsterdam, scaly reptile that he is, is indeed a chimera - of blight.

  7. Online balloting is very easy to manipulate. Asia's Person of the Year. Really? In all of Asia...

I am not buying it, renting it, nor leasing it. If I owned it, I would not gift it to my worst enemy....

    Sour grapes.

You actually believe what you say don't you?

But then I guess I am on your ignore list? If not I should be! (-:

I don't have an ignore list. I like to read what people post whether I like it or otherwise.

As for this award I doubt even the delirious Suthep himself will popping the champers

  8. One question: Why do they always make the phrase "fugitive Thanksin"? He was in New York for a meeting at the U.N. when the coup occurred. It was made clear he was not welcome to come back. For one accused of so much corruption, it took a year to come up with the charges with which they tried him in absentia. A year?! Like him or hate him, you have to admit that any civil/legal rights he had were hardly tenable. Nevertheless, the press continues to use the adjective "fugitive" before his name. Is that really fair?

So while his good friend Samak, his brother in law Somchai and his kid sister Yingluck were at the helm he was unwelcome?

    Popular chap!

  9. She has asked the lunatic Suthep from day one to talk and sort out the problem, Suthep has always refused to try and settle the mess he caused like an adult but wants to carry on like a spoilt little rich kid throwing a tantrum.

    Suthep wants to talk publicly.

Not behind closed doors in a sneaky manner

Sent from my Nexus 4 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

you mean not behind closed doors in a civilised manner. The guys just a blagger, he has no interest in democracy, the general Thai public. He's just an attack dog for the rich and powerful of BKK who don't want to lose a sinlge baht to the great unwashed (as Arthur Daley would say)

That shows how much you know about things.

    Suthep's manor is southern Thailand.

That is where his support base is and mainly consists of the rural farmers.

He is mister south to Thaksin's mister north

  10. The really foolish thing is that the Army has bothered to issue this press release rebutting Amsterdams statement.

Obviously as Mr Amsterdam is not in Thailand, the Army are unable to invoke the arcane defamation laws that are regularly used to silence critics,

The irony is by responding to the accusations, without offering anything in defense, but only to say Amsterdam is persona non grata it would appear to most observers that the article has substance.

Lets face it, a quick google will show that many of these claims are indeed factually correct.

The Army would be better of saying nothing, the only effect it has is digging themselves deeper into the hole they are already in.

i think its Taksin and his regime which have dug their own hole. You are totally naive and mistaken if you think the army really could give a toss but they have thank goodness shown their hand cleverly as yet another warning shot to Taksin that he will not be allowed to simply take over Thailand

In any case everyone has right to refute any accusation made against them particularly from someone totally on Taksins side and paid by him. Even if he claims he no longer acts for Taksin its more than likely that he's still paid under the table so that he can claim he's unbiased What a load of BS

weather its legal or not I doubt he will dare come back to Thailand unless Taksin does succeed in making here into his own dictatorship when he probably would be awarded the Taksin medal of honour for upholding democracy in Thailand bah.gifbah.gifbah.gif

Obviously the Army do give a toss otherwise they wouldn't have bothered to reply.

The fact is that much of what is written is correct and is borne out by the Armys history within Thailand,

Of course they have a right to refute the allegations but they offer no alternative narrative to Amsterdams claims.

They would be much better off not acknowledging these accusations because to do so just draws more attention to them.

You, like others, are so blinded by your hate of Thaksin that you are unable to see the situation in broader terms or accepting that the flaws within Thai society stretch far beyond this one man.

To imagine that somehow the eradication of Thaksin and his family will return Thailand to some sort of Utopian society is risible.

This article by Amsterdam has substance and affiliation with Thaksin doesn't change that.

So far in this dispute the army has said the right thing and done the right thing. Talking historically has quite rightly upset the army.

The only person trying to suck the army in is Yingluck so her party can blame them if it goes wrong. I'm sure the red shirts are not at one with her on this.

  11. Whatever your preferences may be,red, yellow , white etc. the article is not too far off the truth?

And obviously was a little to close to the bone hence the reaction and threats?

Seems to me the armed forces are doing their damnedest to keep out of things.

Seems to me the people trying to bring in the army are the Shinawatras

  12. Forget elections on 2. February, they never will stand the laws...And the most Thai dont want it, get it ...cheesy.gif

no we don't 'get it' as most Thais WANT the election and a small group of morons are trying to shut down democracy with the Democratic Party (sic) falling into the trap and trundling along after Master Suthep like lapdogs

the EC are wavering around like straws in the wind - it's embarrassing

Why it's embarrassing? The Election Commission offered the way out of the current crisis by urging Yingluck's government to delay elections in order to stop violence and save lives. Absolutely logical and reasonable suggestion. Yingluck's government did exact opposite and pushed for further confrontation.

it's a Royal Decree - you know what that is right? The EC said 'we have no power to delay' then they change? they do not allow 28 candidates to register late as they are blocked and forced not to register in a democratic election?

this sounds more like Pol Pot or Myanmar - you REALLY don't think this sounds more like 1930s Germany than 2014 Thailand??? wake UP

Have you read the electoral laws or are you blustering?

  13. Suthep is too boneheaded to be genuine about negotiations.

I didn't see his name mentioned.

    Do you have a fixation?

    *newsflash*

If anyone has to be convinced, its Suthep. He is the once organizing the protests.

    Do try to keep up.

Besides, Abhisit has no influence or power, he is impotent.

    *Newsflash Update*

Don't tell Thai Spot, tell the United Nations Secretary-General who spoke with Abhisit.

    Haha!

I hear Yingluck prepared for mediation by chanting Pali scripts and doing yoga

  14. "Disgruntled farmers are stepping up the pressure on the caretaker government."

    another great The Nation Piece!

Maybe they should step up the pressure on Suthep and the EC - the first causing this crisis - and as the government can not release payment without the EC authorizing it!

    Really? 5 months ago?

    Are you sure?

    Or just mindlessly trolling about
