  1. I have an Aerox, very happy with it, but it's in another league (and price) than the Click at least the 125/150 versions, not sure what they did with the 160. btw, Honda followed suit and has the ADV which closely resembles Aerox, again for even more Bahts. The rough equivalence between Honda & Yamaha scooters is Click - Grand Filano PCX - Nmax ADV - Aerox Forza - Xmax If undecided, it might be a good idea to rent one or the other for 1-2 days. If you consider Yamaha, the dealer on Huay Kaew is good for service, the office staff however leaves to be desired and now that KSK mall is closed you don't have many options to spend an hour other than read your phone. The dealer inside the moat on Prokapklao (spelling?) is better in terms of sale staff. Clearly, you can buy it in one dealer and have it serviced where you want.
  2. A question you could answer yourself, since you were the first to pay attention to this news and feeling the urge to comment.
  3. I remember the times (1980's - 90's) when domestic flights inside Soviet Union then CIS or whatever cost 3 times more for foreigners than for citizens. That never deterred me, since I really wanted to see places and because the prices were still low compared to similar distances in the West. I also remember that when I wanted to use my miles with flights on Lufthansa to China, I had to pay something like 200 Eur in tax for economy, and 600 Eur (!) for business. That shows what airports and airlines pocket everyday for almost no effort. So the 300B in Thailand does not shock me. I just wait to see how they implement it in practice.
  4. Normally, if you take a trip abroad for work purposes, your ticket will be paid by your employer. As the 300B will be part of the trip costs, I don't see the issue for the employee. I agree that how they want to introduce it is idiotic. Either for all (thais and foreigners) or for none. The excuse about it being used for insurance is also idiotic, since many of us already have insurance.
  5. Nat Motors (close to Maya) is very reliable, including after-sale service and maintenance. Good English. Comfortable room inside if you are waiting for maintenance, or easy stroll to the shopping mall. Don't know about bad reviews, strange. I bought 3 Clicks from them over several years, never a problem - though now moved on to Yamaha.
  6. Your posts are always Bangkok-centric. Thailand is a little larger than that. Why do you have to question my choice to get a re-entry before going to the airport? It takes me literally 3 minutes in a shopping mall in Chiang Mai while I am considering where to eat, and I am happy to deal with those nice kind smiling officers.
  7. I am not reading all of this extensive thread, but the first part of your comment is something I do not agree with. Then of course to each their opinion. People who have been here 1-2 years on Covid extensions did basically nothing for the tourism industry. Which needs people who use hotels and resorts, guided tours, restaurants, shopping, and so on every single day. The average tourist leaves on the ground on average 5000B/day. People who are here long-term, like you, I, and covid-extensioners, follow a very different pattern. Sure, there might be some contribution to the economy from rentals and food, but that is not the tourist industry. In my view, the main reason why they kept covid extensions all this time was to justify the continuation of the state of emergency.
  8. First, if you had bought Bitcoin when it started you would be very well off today, even if we are at a fraction of the peak values of end 2021. Second, cryptos "ups and downs" and "people getting fleeced" are the same as what happens in the general market and with some dubious financial schemes. What gains attention in the news are the isolated cases of very few crypto exchanges getting hacked or being insolvent, while the vast majority are ok and in fact anyone who has a valuable portfolio of cryptos will keep them in a private wallet at home. Also banks do occasionally go bankrupt. This said, the crypto market is at the moment very volatile, thanks to a very uncertain global economic situation, thanks to we know what. Entering the crypto at this time is risky, granted.
  9. They didn't. The news published on this forum are often truncated versions of the original article, which is what you should actually read.
  10. Pakistan is a utter disaster. Lots of flooding in India (which is not so unusual, but still above norm) and Afghanistan, some districts devastated. Of course if one follows only the main western news, who have to give voice to Zelensky every day, what happens in Afghanistan will not be apparent.
  11. As @fceligojsaid, you'll need to cancel your WP. You'll be on overstay from the following day, although the first week is a relatively soft period. So you should coordinate first WP cancellation (done at a City Hall office, Labour or something), then on the same day go to Immigration and convert your non-Imm B to a non-Imm O (Ret). The WP cancellation can be done by yourself, but depending on the specific cases it might be better if you are accompanied by one person from your company with the relevant termination letter. This is all possible by yourself if you have all the papers and copies ready, however when I did the same a few years ago I used an agent which was a big peace of mind (and time saving), for a reasonable amount. Especially considering that you will have to deal also with your wife's. Why 1,6M? 800k for yourself is sufficient.
  12. There's a way (it depends on the TV brand specific menu) to force an update via internet. You could try that first. If still no-no, then ask the shop.
  13. Similar situation. I am thinking of writing a will valid in my home country, nominating an executor who should have power of attorney with my bank . When the day comes, he will follow the instructions in the will: sell the shares, transfer the liquidity to my wife's account abroad, close my account. Still need to verify this with the bank. This way, I don't need to sell now and my wife doesn't need to concern herself with stuff in my home country. This is in the event of sudden death. If it's going to be slow and inevitable, I'd do all in person - a few months don't make a difference.
  14. You are out, so you may not read this but I'll offer my 2 cents anyway. I agree with you, there is a big difference in having a very strong immune system. And as it is in the end your health, I can respect your no-vaxx choice. Two points however: a) you can still get infected, and in that case you should be concerned about those around you who are not such Supermen. b) infections are due to proximity to those who have the virus. And the probability of having it, as well as the virulence, depends on vaccination. In other words, the fact that you are infected only once instead of maybe ten times is thanks to those around who chose to be vaccinated. Ergo: Superman thanks to your immune system, but also to all the common folks around.
  15. I agree that the retirement extension is a good option. Two comments: a) if you intend, presumably, to renew it year afer year, keep in mind that normally this can be done only in a 30-day window prior to expiration. So you must schedule your trips and stays in Thailand accordingly. b) if money in the bank is a concern to you, why not spouse for 400K? About Jomtien/Udon, I am not sure. Probably hiring an agent to help you the first time is not a bad idea.
  16. Malaysia gives 90d visa exempt instead of 30d like Thailand? Simple: reciprocity. Malaysians are on a completely different league than Thais when they travel e.g. to Europe. Ride down to Malaysia long time ago? Malaysia had very strict covid restrictions in place, borders sealed. Super easy in Malaysia? Sure, try to move there long term. Like every place, the problems hit you only after you actually spend a good amount of time. btw, if you wanted to leave for a long time, what was stopping you? Leaving Thailand for your home country has been easy since last year.
  17. Can't compare traditional tattoos with what goes on today. It is a fashion, period. Personally, they turn me off, especially when I see a girl going around in the cold with shorts or bare shoulders to show them. Then again, it's their choice, if it makes them happy go on.
  18. You posted a picture... what should I see there?
  19. Avoid how? The dog is in the middle of the driveway, there is no going around it if it decides not to move. I don't say it should be run over, but what is definitely ridiculous is the way that dogs own the roads in this country. Driving around them is what people do, and it only reinforces the sense of "my road, my home" in the dog. Also amazing how in case of the dog causing an accident, nobody owns the dog. But if it's the dog being hurt, suddenly half a dozen people appear for compensation.
  20. True ironman here, last week I completed 3 shirts, 2 trousers, 5 t-shirts in 13:25. ps: well said
  21. What the article doesn't say is that damage to the lungs is correlated with the long-term exposure to pollution, not just with extreme but occasional values. Chiang Mai (and others in the area) has absolutely awful values for a couple of months, but the rest of the year is quite ok. In the rainy season, PM2.5 is around 10 or less. It is 15 today at my place, without rain since 2 days. I have measured 0 at times. A place like Bangkok might have the same yearly average as Chiang Mai, but it could be worse for long-term effects on sensitive people. This said, CM in Feb-Apr is indeed a gas chamber and masks are advised - though it was distinctly better this last season.
  22. To each their paradise. btw, can you please remind us why so many elderly canadians move to California and Arizona in the winter, is the air even more clean there?
  23. The same as if they steal your card. With the BKB app, it is necessary to know a personal code without which the app won't work.
  24. Correct, but you need your personal code for the App after you select "Withdraw ATM".
