  1. Also BKB in CM, the now extinct Kad Suan Kaeo Branch. Every year I would go in, ask "Letter for Immigration please", present orange (fixed deposit) passbook and passport, pay 100 B, and off with the letter within a few minutes. I hope it will be the same at the new Chang Pueak branch.
  2. SunnyJ, welcome. There is an extensive thread about permanent residency on this forum. Perhaps even too extensive, but by browsing the latest posts you could find useful info. My personal take is that there are too many hurdles to pass, and that a retirement visa based on your own finances is an easier options if possible. There are of course some benefits in the PR, but not worthy the hassle IMO.
  3. both ok, print out is generally faster, better with QR code It is checked on arrival in Thailand. Regarding Airline, policy at check-in may vary. I flew in from Europe, it was checked, I flew in from Singapore, they didn't want to see it. In principle yes. In practice, many still wear masks. In some environments it is still mandated (some public transportation, hospitals, airports...)
  4. I beg to differ. First, because the bulk of Chinese tourists were in group tours organized by Chinese companies, with all flights by Chinese carriers and accomodation, food, sightseeing payed in advance and the money never leaving China. Second, because in general "as many as possible" is a recipe for suicide. For a given infrastructure level and balancing with the impact on natural resources, every country should have a maximum number above which tourism starts to choke on itself. In Thailand, the 40M numbers pre-covid were madness. I do agree that Thailand needs Chinese tourists, especially independent travellers, I just hope with some moderation and long-term view.
  5. The increase in price of commodities brought about by the (utterly stupid IMO) sanctions against Russia, mainly. And referring to other posts from you where you show that the cost of oil has decreased recently, it doesn't work like that. In a global economy, all things are linked (a simple concept that sanctions advocates do not quite grasp), and costs are not driven only by the instantaneous price of a commodity but also by long-term procurement contracts, uncertainty, volatility. The cost of daily food in the mouth of the average citizen and the cost of heating their home does not correlate 1:1 with the price of oil on the same day.
  6. Then again, Malaysians are treated very differently from Thais when traveling to Western countries. Reciprocity. Consider what Thais have to go through to visit other countries for which Thailand offers visa exempt.
  7. Basically the doctor, a mere lecturer, regurgitated what is written in an international journal of Psychiatry by other researchers, on his FB page. Voila, clicks and glory. The article mentions "neurological issues" without specifying anything. The conclusion is "wear a mask", genial. Now waiting for the next prominent doctor to take the stage.
  8. Accept that people able to vacation 90d at a time are a very small minority, and you always have the option of spending a very short time in a neighbouring country and re-enter. The goons know quite well what they are doing I believe. They are extending 15d visa on arrival to 30d for the Indians, who are by far the largest group of real tourists (Malaysian weekenders notwithstanding).
  9. FRankly, what does it matter how many are infected? What matters is the serious cases and fatalities, this is written in the article and it seems to me little reason to live in fear. Mostly are elderly, non-vaccinated, with previous conditions. Those who fall in these categories should be extra careful, the rest can carry on with their lives.
  10. Wow, I am sorry if you had such terrible experiences with the dens of corruption. I respect your choice to use an agent (which however, in some cases though not yours, is a way of continuing the corruption). But I have to say that your dim view of Immigration offices is at odds with mine. I deal with the CM IO since a dozen years, since a few years for retirement extensions based on fixed deposit. I have to say that -knock on wood- it's always gone rather smoothly, if I had to wait it's usually because of an agent jumping the line with several passports, or because of the marriage extension guys with an expecially talkative wife. Since two years I use the online booking system and I am in and out faster than I can check the news on my phone. Without genuflecting. A wai is a kind gesture and I do it without feeling like a clown. So be happy with your choice, just as I can be happy without an agent.
  11. I suspect/hope that Imm doesn't rely only on passport stamps, but also on their database. Your friend that "is late with 90d because of no passport stamp" (slightly lame excuse) should be able to find out whether they are counting the days from his latest entry or not.
  12. I have to disagree (about brilliant). He is very scholarly and masters the language very well, but the plots of all his books are totally boring to me. Factually impossible, repetitive (always something to do with indian immigrants here and there), banging on and on about indian heritage. The SV resembles Ramayana more than a novel... two guys who survive an air crash and have god-like powers and transfer personalities. The part about the Prophet is stuck there without any purpose. If I want "brilliant fantasy/magic realism" I watch the Sixth Sense, the stuff by Rushdie is boring. Going to one of his lectures must require coffee by intravenous. Solely my opinion of course. This said, no justification for the attack - which in the end will glorify the author even more and completely defy the intended purpose. I agree with religion poisoning, but this holds true for all religions. Posters quick to wish a ban of Islam (how??) should perhaps consider the track record of Christian religion, starting with the Inquisition and the forced conversion of indigenous people all over the world.
  13. I was there about a month ago, for re-entry permit. Very easy and friendly , they asked me what I needed, they gave me a queue number, no one ahead, in and out in a couple of minutes. Try that at the airport office.
  14. OP you are running two parallel threads, this is the other one. On one thread you say you want to stay in Thailand until November and you frown upon the cost of a volunteer visa, in the other one you say you want to stay years and you consider the Elite visa. You know the costs right? In one you say you have been living here with covid extensions, in the other that you are tired of border runs. People are kindly trying to advice but maybe some clarity would help.
  15. Somebody more expert will probably answer you soon, but it is my understanding that if the girl is less than 17 and is travelling with her parents, she falls in the same scheme as the parents. If they are both fully vaccinated, she doesn't need to show proof of vaccination. Mind you this is for entry into Thailand. Airlines might have their own specific requirements.
  16. Couldn't you have checked with her first whether she had any intention to release them to you before starting 5 years of court fights? Anyway, a good lesson about true love, thanks.
  17. OP, save two days of your salary, buy the BIL another much bigger house and land, the bi**es will eat their liver knowing how much richer and happier you are then they will ever be, and you will have peace of mind. PS: curious to know which job in AUS pays you per day more than the price of a house and farming land in Isaan.
  18. The title should have read "What happens when a US Veteran dies in Thailand", but clicks rule.
  19. Which is a bulgarian private site with no accountability whatsoever of how it makes its rankings, or of how it is financed. Welcome to the age of social media.
  20. Why not open a mocking/complaining subforum, so all the farangs who like to live in Thailand but despise everything the Thais do can let it all out. It doesn't shield from the sun... so perhaps they only wanted to shield you from rain? Tall farangs will bump their head... anyone who is tall and lived here long enough has learned that on many occasions we need to kneel down a little, not just at this ATM. Also, generations change, they get taller, I was often "sticking out" in my own country as a teenager but now when I am there I am rarely the tallest in a bus or in a shop. Even here, I do meet young Thai people over 190cm occasionally.
  21. The amount of misinformation passed as "expert advice" on this forum is breathtaking.
  22. The real nature of the regime... because the USA has never plotted to eliminate political figures abroad, of course.
  23. In general what you say is correct, in practice however compared to Europe, the money made by the gov't on the registration of house, car and similar is minimal. And, those are goods that you buy and enjoy, not an investment as normally understood. I think the Thai economy as a whole profits much more, per day, with a tourist than with a long-term resident. With the possible exception of health services.
