  1. All currencies(*) are losing against the dollar, they have been doing so for a while thanks to the sanctions on Russia which the USA ecomomy can live with but not their minions in Europe. And things have nose-dived with the new interest rates in the US. The EUR is now almost 1:1 with USD, having lost about 20% in one year. USA citizens may rejoice at this news, but if they look a little further than their nose they will realize that everything is more expensive at the end of the day also for them, since inflation is higher than the gain dollar/baht or whatever. (*) except the russian ruble, again an illusion since things which are imported are now extremely more expensive in Russia. Basically, a lose-lose for all, thanks to the genius leaders in the West.
  2. Would it be too much to ask that pieces written by Michael Bridge are published with this name, and not as "webfact" ? Just so that we know what to expect. Thanks.
  3. Certainly not. Easily verified to be bogus.
  4. Nonsense. The graph you linked shows about 1% Covid mortality, at present, but in fact that means nothing since deaths and confirmed Covid cases are counted in very different and often debatable manners, depending on who's counting. e.g. in the US they would count as Covid death even people without Covid, or people positive but who died in unrelated manner such as car crash. Back on topic, if you read carefully the "prominent doctors" numbers, there's nothing to indicate a worsening of the fatalities due to new variants.
  5. I just read the same. Talk about gun and foot. How do they even come up with such ideas ?? Anyway, I think it's so complicated to implement in practice that the proposal will be aborted. What level of surcharge, how to distinguish locals and foreigners e.g. mixed families, the fact that rooms are often booked not from the hotel but from brokers, what happens to packages like flight+hotel, and so on. But surely it will be fun to watch the forum explode when the official topic is created.
  6. Why? It was found in Thailand. Same like a roman coin found in UK, it doesn't belong to Italy. But I see the cultural heritage aspect of course, hopefully they recover it and can display it in both THA and CAM.
  7. Or you could check which countries are included in the visits or not, and their land borders to China.
  8. The first culprit WHO should point the finger at is themselves, starting with their egregious director general.
  9. Now we have no mandate, and yet most people still wear the mask (I'd say over 90% in CM). To reinstate the mandate would have no tangible effect. Either the prominent doctors want their moment in the news, or someone wants excuses to continue a state of emergency which has no justification.
  10. Easy to say if you have a good guaranteed income. My relatives, and a lot of other people, are struggling back in Europe with utility bills tripled.
  11. The moral compass of Europe is aligned to the NATO magnetic pole.
  12. I accept and I am very glad that my lifestlyle is different from yours, that doesn't allow you a 20 minutes break to procure food in a whole day. I suppose also no cooking, as that takes even longer. Not to mention that even with delivery you still need to meet the driver (if you lived in that nightmare of a condo, that's a lot of time too). Then there's the issue of plastic waste and fuel, and of sedentary life... Yes, I am glad.
  13. Apples and oranges. The airport director was referring to arrivals by air in Phuket. The 1.9M projected to 9M refers to people entering Thailand, which includes also very short visits , e.g. border crossings by land from neighbouring countries and stop-overs e.g. one night in Bangkok. Without the need of TP, these will increase a lot. We already know that in general, pre-pandemic, Malaysians hopping across the border for a weekend of drinks and "massage" are always the most numerous "tourists". I see no inconsistency with the two statements.
  14. Interesting. I also returned abour 3 weeks ago, same address (I own my condo) and I had to do TM30 update. Also CM. I don't think being married to a Thai is the difference? I am not. Anyway, it would be good news, please post your extension experience as a reply to this. Thanks.
  15. A lot of US americans and of Europeans would find your question rather idle.
  16. Good guys? Do you have a special licence in the US to certify you are a good guy? Small point to consider: how many shootings by "bad guys" take place per year in Denmark, compared to the US? ... divide by the population of course.
  17. It's quite clear, when you think that the gov't still needs to justify the state of emergency and that the CCSA and eminent facebook doctors won't let go of the spotlight just yet.
  18. Also, the Grab price is clearly shown in the app before I press "book", and it doesn't double if I am a farang.
  19. I do believe the part about attempted rip off with the help of corrupted police, but "no way of identifying" seems impossible. Grab taxi is an online service, you have to book it from an app which clearly shows the car licence plate number, the driver's name, and all possible details such as car model and color.
  20. If you didn't really want to stay in that bar, why did you go? Wasn't it clear enough that it's a place where people buy ladies' drinks, did you genuinely think it was a sort of english pub where you order a pint and be left alone? Weren't you the rude one in the first place by telling them that you wanted to go to newer bars? And what was the big tragedy: the owner asked you pay the bill and leave, which is exactly what you had intended to do in the first place. So we was angry at you, it never happened in 20 years, oh the ignominy. I'd say he was right, you were chatting with a number of ladies without paying even one drink. btw, I have never visited a bar in that road and it would be the last of my ideas for a "long weekend in the big city", but then again de gustibus...
  21. An article intentionally written to attract the denigrators, and ... congratulations, you are the first one! Not 160 tourists, but 160 pssengers on one flight from SIN. There are many more INTERNATIONAL arrivals on connecting flights, and there are many many more TOURISTS on domestic flights. Many of which are foreigners who having spent already time in places like Phuket or Bangkok are not counted as international arrivals. Being unprepared with vaccination certificates is surely irrespective of which incoming airport in Thailand, and I doubt it as they would have to show the same at departure airport it's not that they destroyed them on the flight. And btw, now is low season.
  22. We are going in circles because posters like you keep presenting only a part of the story. The issue was clarified already in the initial posts. It's not about entering UK (which would have been ok of course), but about leaving Thailand. The OP clarified that the children were travelling on UK passports without entry stamps and with the mother using a Thai passport, without the father present or relevant letter. Ubonjoe gave the appropriate answer. Sorry about the stress that this quite unusual situation caused to the family, but it seems to me that the airline followed the law.
  23. A short domestic flight, is one thing. In fact, they don't even give you food or they give at the end to bring home. At least they are consistent. Long-haul flights is another thing. I flew 11 h BKK-Europe and back, there was a mask mandate but in fact many people often had it down, including me at times, or at least under the nose. It is not easy to sleep on plane in the first place, much less with a piece of cloth over the mouth. As someone pointed out, also inconsistent because in 11h they must feed you 2x as per IATA regulations, and then it's mask down for all. Besides, I have read that the air flow and filtering on modern planes is so good that there's little chance of contamination unless your neighbour coughs in your face. Anyway, to each their own choice. I just want to point out that it's a bit extreme to refuse flying because of a mandate that is not really enforced in my experience. btw, in my home country since June15 there is no more mask mandate on flights.
  24. Don't worry you are in good company in this country.
