  1. That looks like Cassava ,let's hope you get a better price than this year, got down to 1.50 baht/kg ,that was because last year it got to 3 baht plus /kg, so this year everyone grew cassava, so the price drops, not so much about this year so it should be a good price. Putting in drip irrigation now as the rains are coming .............., harvest will be next late spring, let's hope they will be someone to harvest it ,in this area it is mainly the Cambodians that do the job ,as a lot of them have gone home now , good timing as most of the Cassava in our area has been harvested, I would say they will be back ,when all the dust settles
  2. Do what, of course Z wants the war to end, he is resolute that he will not give away any of his country, and who can blame him, it was Russia that invaded Ukraine and took the Crimean and Donbas regions. In fact, Europe has spent more on supporting Ukraine then the USA, and about 60%of USA spending has been on aid etc. . As for Russia being patient, why are they still sending a record numbers of drones in to Ukraine, so far 1 million Russians have been killed in this conflict (Quote from BBC World Service this morning) Putin is the one who does not want the war to end. He walked away glad no more sanctions were imposed on Russia, as a very knowledgeable pundit said this morning on the BBC it will be money that will stop this war, mainly when Russia runs out of it, so why no more sanctions on Russia?, it is if Trump wants the war to continue
  3. A 2018 Wave rear shocks will be getting a bit worn ,try some YSS, you can get gas one's ,mine YSS are not adjustable, we also have a set on a side car ,they can take a lot of weight ,with no problems ,but I think you can get adjustable ones, ask at your local bike shop. Someone a while ago was asking about putting YSS shocks on a Harley??, if he did ? you should have no problems with a Wave.
  4. If it was not journalists killed why are a lot of countries condemning the killing? Because they all know the IDF ,yet again, has killed innocent civilians, cleared land that they took over, all contrary to the Geneva Convention, not that Israel is bothered about any law; they just do what they want to do. In the mean time, in the West Bank Palestine's long time settlers are being attacked and basically kicked off they land they have owned for a lot of yeas, even more so since the conflict started, so more illegal homes can be built, again all illegal, all against ICJ ruling, are the Israelle's bothered, no they just do what they like again. The conflict is not going to stop until Netanyahu's coalition government with his very right-wing partners, all hell bent on destroying the Palestinian nation are somehow changed, and that is not going to happen soon, stalemate.
  5. These 5 journalists were doing the job foreign journalists are not allowed to do, and they were reporting the truth, so the IDF not liking that, killed them, saying that he was head of a terrorist's cell, the IDF would say wouldn't they, that is just excuses to take over land that they have no right too.
  6. A ticking noise is more often a piston slap, piston against the bores, or a broken piston ring, may be little end, I would not say it was the chain tensioner, that would not cause the engine to zip up . AS for 9000 baht to repair the engine, that is very expensive, I would ask around other dealers about a repair, it should only be? new piston and rings and probably a re-bore, top book 5000 baht?. I had my Wave engine rebuilt, new everything, and a new 4th gear as a tooth had chipped off, genuine parts cost 4000 baht OK 2 years ago, now it's 4500.
  7. Last week 2 reports on the BBC World service and Radio 4, said the same thing: the two big guns Thaksin and Hun Sen, metaphorically, are locking horns, but as with most conflicts, it is the people in the middle that take all the brunt and pain.
  8. A dish of Rad-Na 97 baht, in my rural area we can get a Rad-Na for no more than 50 baht, but saying that, me and the wife had a very average Pak-Grabow, 60 baht /dish, it was lunch time we were the only ones they, wonder why. As has been said just to many food outlets, Thais think they cannot do anything else, lets sell food ,half the wife's family do that, her niece is ok, been selling noddle's for 10 years now ,she is wise and keeps her prices down, always customer's in they, does all right.
  9. It was on Thai TV most of the day that we went to China, what was he doing, after some big things that bang, a bit more modern than the Soviet era thing they have. China will say, OK we will be opening a few more factories in your country?
  10. Thinking back, when his sister did a runner to Cambodia. How things have changed.
  11. I would say, and as you know, Thais think of quantities, not quality, they cut grass well past its best feed value the classic is Nappier, not my favorite grass we grow it and make silage. Thais will cut it way past its best, feed value probable same as rice straw. If grass is managed well, with fertilizer use, and cut at the right stage, at no more than 45 days ,you can get some good production from grass.
  12. True, but finding some forage legumes, they are two in Thailand ,Centrosem, and Stylosanthes (Stylo), you could try the Thai DLD, Department of Livestock Development, they have a website Can be grown with grasses, but competition from some grass verities will crowd out the legume. We feed our cattle Leucaena, a tree legume, we cut it every day in our area, they are a lot of other farmers rearing Goats they cut and feed it to their Goats, at 22% protein for the leaves it is a good feed. Protein is important for cattle, but energy is more important, most books on diet for cattle will say for, energy is the limiting factor for production, here in Thailand with there dairy cows it is very limiting/deficient.
  13. Your average Thai farmer is already in debt to the BAAC ,a government backed bank for the farmers and farming co-op's, with the prices farmers are getting they is not much chance of the business model being sustainable, corn farmers in my area are losing they crops due to no rain, a few crops that ae being harvested the price is not enough to make any money . I would say these soft loans would be though the BAAC ,so not a lot of change they. Remember Thai farmers, bar rice farmers, like farmers in our country's do not get any government subsidies
  14. You are right, it is the No fault eviction in the new law that is killing the UK property to rent, the last government ran out of time to pass the bill, so the new government far as I know, have passed the bill, one of the few times that has happened. I have a flat in the Uk out to rent a couple live they , they have been they 3 years, I have not put the rent up ,they pay every month, never a problem, going to try and keep it that way.
  15. Been a bit quiet on here of late, well a tale of 2 farms, as the crow fly's only 12 km apart. Was out and had to stop while a combine was emptying his tank of corn/maize, asked the crop owner how much a kg he was getting for his crop ,he said 6.75 baht/kg, which is not a lot,I think less than last year, moisture was about 30%,he rents the land 1500 baht/rie, cost of ploughing, sowing , seed this year is 200 baht/kg , spraying for Fall Army Worm, now a big problem, need to spray at least 3 times, most farmers now use drones, cost has come down now about 80 baht/rie. All in all he will not make a lot, this block was about 50 rie. Second set of photos, only 3 kg from our place, a dairy farmer chopping a crop of maize that has not had enough rain ,it has some cobs , but very little grain that will not grow any more, the guy chopping it will be feeding it to his dairy cows, which will make them happy, a big change from rice straw he paid 6000 baht for 10 rie other dairy farmers will be going the same thing , over the next couple of days. The land again I think is rented, he would have lost a good few thousand baht. he will wait for some rain and drill the crop again. Not the first time this has happened, no rain corn crop has grown,18 years ago we lost 40 rie of corn no rain, and it will not be the last
  16. US debt is now $37trn – should we be worried? Have a look at the BBC web site about this ,it is where this quote comes from .
  17. The OP wants to do their homework before posting, it is almost impossible to find someone selling lottery tickets for 80 baht, nearly all are now 100 baht, some selling at major sites in big cities are selling them at 120 each. With the wife's family, most lottery numbers are brought on the underground lottery, and I would say it is the same with a lot of family's
  18. If another country invades at say, 12.05pm, nothing will get done until 1.00 pm with Thais nothing will get done until 1.00 pm,lunch/food comes first. Think, all government departments close at 12.00 for lunch, even our outpatient depo of the hospital closes at 12.00 for an hour. Would the military be any different, no
  19. They have a big drug seizure, a lot of photo opportunities and people standing around. Then it is in the front door, and out the back door. Word on the street at the time , probably true the reason for the coup against Thucksin ,he did a lot to do away with drug dealers, the army generals were not happy about the loss of income from selling their drugs, so they got rid of him , Welcome to Thailand
  20. Do not laugh; why not put a sidecar on a motorbike? That would be safer than riding a solo motorbike. I have had a hip replacement and do not enjoy riding a solo bike, so I fitted a sidecar a few years ago, now, no problems. But, can you get a DL in Thailand by riding a motorbike and sidecar for the test? I have my doubts.
  21. Israel is just doing Trump's dirty work and getting away with it, if the USA went in the same way they would be something said. And Trump went back on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, back in 2015 known as the nuclear deal, since then things have got worse, and we are where we are now. Everyone is saying, Bomb them back in the stone age, a look at Gogel, the population of Iran is about 91 million, what about them.
  22. You are not doing so bad, they is a but, like I have, if your fields are ex rice fields, they could be prone to water logging? Mulatto II is a very good grass, but does not like waterlogging, I have had Purple Guinea, a good grass again it does like a lot of water logging. Forget Ruzi that grass has been about in Thailand for years, about the only grass Thais know, the other grasses you have are a lot better. You would be better letting them graze that cut and cart, but that, as have found during the wet season the field can get poached, leading to a lost time before the grass recovers. They are no truth in they taste being overwhelmed, what the big problem is Thias go for quantity, not quality, they will cut grass that is old and in flower? not palatable at all, grass here n Thailand if the conditions are right i.e. rain at the right time you can get a 45-day cycle of grass, grass then will still be palatable, and they should eat it all. If you are grazing grass, grass needs to be no more that wellington boot height, sometimes if that, cattle will eat it down to the ground, then it will grow back again quickly, I have done a strip grazing system using eclectic fence, works well, but as said, be wear of poaching. Something I have seen on here before ,I do not know how many cattle you have17-18 rie of land all of that down to grass ,that is a lot of grass you will have that palatability problem, grass will grow old and cattle will not eat it ,and with old grass you will not get the cattle growth rates and, cows will not be fertile to get in calf. Or, as we do grow a few rie of Nappier grass, make it in to bagged silage, and feed it during the dry season, but that can be labor intensive.
  23. Good point, but here in Thailand it is feed and Managment, with the main souse of roughage being rice straw, very little grass is feed to cattle, what grass is feed will rough natural grass very little grass is grown from seed, the average yield for a Thai dairy cow would be12-14kg/day ,compared with 25+kg/day for our cows. Same with beef cattle, they are thin due to poor grass and rice straw. On the genetic side American semen is readily available in Thailand, but with poor conception rate, due poor diet, it is also expensive, semen of less quality and price is used. No hormones are used in Thailand, it has been used, but again with poor feed/ management they were no advantages of using hormones.
  24. Wrong, we have crossing Angus bulls on our Thai beef cows for some years now, without any heat stroke problems, and we use to get above market price for our cattle. They are a few Angus X Frisian bulls about looking fit and well. Most of the good quality beef you buy in Thailand are Charolais x Brahman, normally 65% Charolais 35% Brahman. To put things into perspective, most of these things you see grazing beside a road, as has been said, are low investment they are often kept as a bank any family problems, someone dies, Son becomes a monk, they just sell a few cattle to pay for it all. My neighbor has some beef cattle, a few years ago sold a couple of bulls and brought a secondhand tractor for his rice fields, practically no investments. Now he will have to sell more than a couple of cattle to buy a tractor market price is well down, not a of cattle being sold in the hope the price will go up, if it is like past markets they will have a long wait.
  25. YSS shocks on a Harly, all the YSS shocks I see are all on Waves etc. are they meant for Haleys? you spend X00000 baht on a motorbike but put on Thai made shock absorbers, why not get the proper ones for a Harly, a Thai dealer should Have them, or can get them ,or order them yourself online.
