  1. Hi All. The project, we have a large pond on our property, we use it mainly for watering the garden, and we rear some fish, vie an electric pump this time of year with usage and evaporation the level drops quickly. At the back of land is a small river distance about 220 meters, the idea is to use a sola pump to pump the water from the river to our pond. By using a trailer mounted unit, similar to the photo, but a lot smaller, say going out in the morning and coming home in the evening. I aim to use a 2HP pump, with a 2-inch outlet, looking at Google it will need 1600 Wats to power the pump, our local Thai Wat Sado has all the stuff they have 400-Watt panels, inverters, and pumps. The questions are, using a DC pump, you should not need an inverter?? Wat Sado has one a 2HP DC pump 13 000 baht, as far as I can see you should not need a battery, but the guy in Wat Sado said you do, do you? As I said our pump we use in the garden, I brought 10years ago ,it is a Mr. Eco ,Italian made pump ,one of the best you can get ,we had it 18 months brought it out at the new year ,would not start ,took it to our local electric motor guy ,who had to rewind the motor, I said it is an Italian pump, he said no, a Chines copy ,it had aluminum windings ,not copper ,he rewound it with copper ,now no problems. The 2HP DC pump I was looking at was made in China, thinking will it last?13k for a 2HP DC pump, so I thought buy a good quality AC pump and use an inverter? Google said you need 1600 Watt to power the pump, but I have read on start up an electric motor needs more power, just to turn the motor over, once it is going then it will use its 1600 Watt's, if so. would you need say an extra panel, for start-up. Thanks.
  2. Written by AI ,call it being picky, but a sack of rice in one of these warehouses weighs 90 kg not 50 kg, again I am having my doubts about AI.
  3. Tell the tourists to go to the shops down a Soi 2-300 yards from their hotel they can buy alcohol at any time.
  4. For a lot of people selling lottory tickets is a nice easy job, sitting in front of a bank all day, or whatever looking at their phone most of the time, time they got a proper job. It will be the blind and handicaped sellers, a lot who cannot do anything else, will suffer, they should be made a special case and allowed to carry on selling they tickets, a lot of people will still by a paper ticket as they do not have a phone or do not know how the system works.
  5. Gymnopetalum integrifolim (Roxb.) Kurz. I think it is this tree, they one near me, next to the road. which is now red with the fruit?
  6. If you what a weed killer that will kill weeds and not grass look at MCPA or MCPB . If I remember, available on Lazada.
  7. The transport co. the company that runs most Thai buses, have a call center 1490, they should be able to tell you about bus routes. Like the op I have done that journey on the old orange crush buses, now it will all first and second-class air con buses. It would not surprise me if they were not a minibus service now.
  8. What is a cow egg? the distinctive taste is the poor quality of the Thai milk, very little BF, butterfat, the cream on the milk, or anything else. The problem is the diet, especially the forage which is mainly rice straw which is very poor quality and the concentrate is also poor quality, which will give you a poor-quality milk with no flavor, not old, reconstituted stuff being mixed. Farmers get paid a basic price for they milk, then extra for BF containt and protein containt ,Thailand did not have a standard, so they used the American standard, but very few farmers reached that standard due to the above, so now they have they own standard lower than the American one, it works farmers do get paid above the basic price. I am afraid it will not change been like it for 30 years plus now, famers will still feed rice straw, that is all brought in .as most farmers do not have the land to grow any grass, unlike our dairy farmers in the west. They is a lot of dairy farms around the Packchon area some are some of the best farms in Thailand along with and nearby Mortlec and that is where Thai dairy farming started, must be 60 years sago now, with the Thai- Denmark partnership.
  9. Do what, where is the link to that comment, how much of the Amazon rain forest has been cut down over the past 30 years, and other tropical forests, just down the road from us Indonesai. Desert encroachment has become a problem over the past 30 years, not even thinking about building on green fields.
  10. The Ford 5610 was manufactured between 1988-91, about the same time as our main work horse the Ford 6610. Finding someone to the job should not be too difficult ask your local tractor dealer about servicing Ford tractors. I would have thought the 5610 and the 6610, would share some parts, my local spare parts place Carrey's most spare parts for Ford, and might find a lot are made here in Thailand.
  11. You can get a young buffalo for less than 20 000 baht. Next question what are you going to do with 10 rie, you would only need 2 rie for your kwie and donkey. No law about farang owning stock, unless some on here is going to say you will need a work permit as this could be classed as work ,I look at it this way they are many members on here that have cattle pigs etc. without any problem us included.
  12. We had our land measured with new markers put in, and one side they were a lot of trees, on the boundary, but they were on our Neighbour's land with a lot overhanging on to our land, these trees were not touched. I cannot see what difference it makes the trees should not hinder the job at all ,they just used a theodolite and a tape measure ,they only used my hammer just to put in some pegs to mark the boundary before putting in their boundary posts , if they is a tree in the way you would have thought, being practical ,just move the marker posts a foot ,especially if it is on a straight run ,if it was say in a in a corner ,then a tree might have to come out When they did our land, they did the length of the land and a cross measurement. You would have thought s they do this job all the time they should have they own shovels., and for digging holes a spade would be best, not a shovel.
  13. While regular cattle could fetch between 25,000 and 50,000 baht from the market, premium breeds can command prices up to 200,000 baht each Drawing information from a pilot project in Sukhothai province, he highlighted that participants starting with 50,000 baht to purchase two breeding cows have, over four years, increased their herd to ten. Assuming a value of 25,000 baht per cow, ten cows would equate to a total value of 250,000 baht. If extended to one million families, the total value could reach 250 billion baht. This guy is a typical Thai politician who had no idea about farming these prices are why out of date, and the only 200k cattle you will see will some breeding bull with its pedigree coming probably from the USA . ,and his 50k cattle will be your pedigree breeding females cattle, not your run of the mill Brahman you see, one of those would be about top book 20k Now the market has dropped, along with the dairy cow market, to do with feed prices just to high. And his facts are wrong, a cow is in calf for 9 months, how can two breeding cows produce 6 calves in four years, even if in the first year they had heifer calves, and they calved, which they will not, and the value of 250k,, with the calves being 50% bulls and heifers, the heifer are worth more than the bulls, and they have not yet grown. They had a scheme 5-6 years ago similar to this that was a failure never got going, like this one will not.
  14. He also said that customers for cane leaves should be encouraged to buy more, to help reduce cane burning. From the op . These are bales of sugar cane leaves, from my area, this is the 3ed year they have been doing this, these bales are known as high density bales each one weighs 3-400 kg. The buyer is our local sugar mill they use the bales as fuel to boil the molasses, they are paying about 600 baht/ton, so far this year they are buying a lot more than before, must be more geared up to use them have heard of straw being baled in Khon Khen province. Baling the cane straw is ok but the baler is a secondhand imported, costing upwards of 600 000 baht, then you need a tractor to pull it normally rated at 120hp plus, which here in Thailand is a top of the range /price tag tractor, and a rake, mounted on a tractor to put the straw into rows is needed, budget 1 million baht, two million with tractor. I would say the future is not all bleak, some growers are trying, in that big heap of bales is a good few hundred ton, have seen truck and trailer being loaded up, and you cannot see were they have been.
  15. Try sandwiching the pipe between 2 pices of thin wood, hold it in the vice and cut through the whole lot ,a hack saw with a fine blade, or as you have found out an angle grinder would work, it should give you a clean cut.
  16. I used my Thai driving license, but I had to get translated, one of the firms doing the translation service, did it for me 500 baht, that was excepted.
  17. This is a typical "Chow Bann", village charcoal pit /oven cheap to make, been around for a lot of years second one is just a 40-gallon oil drum. I would like to see how you can direct the smoke back into the pit. Your method would requeue a lot of investment. tell that to a Thai villager, he would say no way to expensive.
  18. The wife's niece is a nurse, been qualified for 4 years, she earns about 35 000/month ..... when she is they, she is always posting from her jollies on FB, she is working at a provincial hospital.
  19. Should that not be plural not singular on the word home, he has 3-4 houses in Bangkok, on a police salary? I like to think he is innocent, but now I have my doubts.
  20. It is only the start of the hot season, going to be brown and crispy for a long time yet, no more proper rain until ........it use to be the Songkran festival, but now it seems more like May, just the odd heavy shower, which is nice for a few hours the humidity kicks in not nice.
  21. Thailand has a thriving dairy industry of its own. Milk is the most perishable of all fresh foods, no dairy farm in Thailand has any cooling facilities , just too expensive to install and run, for just a few cows, after milking AM and PM ,with in an hour milk is pickup from the farms ,some farmers take it themselves ,to a milk center that check the quality, cools and stores the milk ,before sending it to milk factory's ,and it is the milk centers that pay the dairy farmers. Most of the milk centers take milk from about a 20 km radius, that is why you never see a dairy farm in a rice field in the middle of Issan. In my area of about 100 ton of milk is produced per day, all sent to 5 milk centers in the area. Butter and cheese in Thailand are expensive because it is all imported. About 25 years ago, the Thai Denmark milk company had a Danish guy over here trying to produce some cheese, that never worked, one of the milk centers near me was looking into it, but I think the costs were to high.
  22. Or, along with all the other spending it will be another 1997, and the IMF will come a knocking, then the economy was growing at 7-8 %/year, not the predicted 3.2% for this year
  23. Good for the dairy farmers, they margins are getting tighter a lot of farms are still giving up, can not make it pay. They still is a about 25 % short fall of fresh milk in the country, last time farm gate price went up 2-baht, milk in 7-11 etc. went up, then no one brought it, to expensive ,so the price came back down, so did the farm gate price. But at the time feed prices went up, so it was back to square one.
  24. Thay want to walk before they can run, the reason Thai rice yields are so low is to do with the soil being so infertile, just monoculture rice very little if any input in the land to make it more fertile all it gets is bagged fertilizer, with the price of that now, that has been reduced. Farmers what to go back to basics grow some crops that can put some organic matter back into the land make it more fertile than crop yields will increase. Just forget AI, for now come back in 10 years when soil fertility increases then it might be of some use. Where it could work is in research, breeding new rice verities, higher yields, more dieses resistance but that will take some time ,Thailand is researching for new verities of rice, but other countries are way ahead, Thailand has got a lot of catching up to do.
  25. If you read it, they are corn and rice articles, in fact this year is a good year for sugar cane farmers, they is world shortage of sugar, the price is good about 1400-1500 baht/ton, most it has ever been, yields are down though.
