1. Oil and gas offshore is so old school, have worked on offshore wind parks with scandinavian subcontractors who work six months and are off six months and live the high life in Thailand and Phils or Indonesia company even pays airplane tickets .

Ermmmmmmmmmmmmmm................... that's exactly what O&G workers do.

offshore wind farms are for little girls, and tree huggers, not a real offshore job playing with a windmill

seing the whole of the uk coastline and some other european coastlines being built full of them and the money said company's pay i would beg to differ and love to be called a tree hugger Oil and Gas is so over.
2. 3. A cyber worker visa

Agreed. The world has changed. Tons of people now work from home and use the internet to make money.

Work permits are handed out to people who, in my opinion, are generally either second rate (at best) or (more often) third rate.

Let's be honest -- how many first rate expats work for MNCs in Thailand? The answer is zero. First rate guys would never consider transferring to Thailand.

But "cyber workers" are different. I have read that lots of these guys congregate in Chiang Mai. They offer a whole range of services (SEO, copy writing, programming, etc), and by all accounts are often very good.

I think these guys should be entitled to (as you put it) a "cyber visa" costing 50K - 100K per year. The relatively high cost would obviate the need to pay tax.

It won't happen so you'll have to relocate.
Yes i think we call such things boiler rooms ,cyber visa my arse......
3. dont understand the point really; so what?

for jews in thailand it helps cause no pork, and the slaughter is similar (for observant jews its a no go , but for those like my son who just dont eat pork or shellfish, its fine)...

i ate in halal food venues in ayuthaya; so what?

half the stuff americans buy also has a K FOR KOSHER on it and they dont notice... for those that it is important to them, they notice, otherwise, who cares.

funnily enough, the arab guys (muslems all) who work with us att he hotel are all religious (not fanatic, just religious) filled their suitcase up with instant soups and stuff from here (kosher, not halal, but same same) cause they didnt trust any food in thaialnd at all (dog, cat tiger, they are pretty ignorant about it all); when i suggested that they go to halal restaraunts, they didnt even know there are muslems in thailand or halal food.

i was the one to search and find info for them.

when we go out on worker fun days, its all kosher to encompass all the 'no eating pork' contigency and also the jewish side of the 'not mixing meat and milk' as there is one group of muslems in one village who do not mix milk and meat either (they cant explain why, maybe they had jewish family members as well who knows)...

so if i come from our little 'war torn' country and dont care about halal in stores, why shoudl you?

"so if i come from our little 'war torn' country and dont care about halal in stores, why shoudl you?"

I'm really sorry that your friends and family are living in a war torn area. I read your other post about incoming rockets. I'm sorry.

About the Halai food, I just watched some videos of animals being killed. I've never seen such cruelty to animals and I refuse to support that with my money, and I refuse to eat that meat.

If I and the men I grew up around on a large cattle ranch caught someone doing that....

Nevermind.

same same mc donalds .........
4. I sometimes feel sorry for some poor Thai girls and what kind of foreigners they end up with.First we had a wanna be James Bond explaining on how to track your girlfriend/bargirl and now lie detector tests.

Many a bargirl i have known would succeed a lie detector test or even waterboarding ......pfffft jezes effin christ.

5. Beachproperty raises a valid option. There's lots of aged care facilities in Thailand set up to cater for elderly western folks.
If this lady really has no family to help her back in the US, perhaps a Thai care home is a good option. Lots on google about it.

Best of luck anyway.

If she's suffering from dementia and she's put in a thai nursing home run by foreigners as your link states and she has no family who is then taking care of her finances?
Are there laws in state in Thailand protecting such a person as mentioned in the op from people mis using here money like the nursing home ,we have such organisations and laws in my country for situations like this ,but Thailand?
6. Nope. Not enough praise for the Belgium team specially concerning their last match against the US and all you could talk about was their goalkeeper Howard.

Kudel,

Yes Belgium was the best in the game against the USA and they deserve the win. However I think that Howard was the man of the game. He was yhe man that gave Belgiuma verry hard time. But this is no reason not to be gratefull to The Scarf for his work. Have a good time watching the comming games.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

wrong Belgium gave them a run for their money ,did you even watch the game?Belgium was the superior team on every level..
7. yes they gotta get the cash (cost $400,000+each/year for all those asylum seeker they are going to house in cambo,) from somewhere.

so bashing/torturing the disabled and unemployed is the usual aussie cultural trick. lovely culture indeed.

Australia you're standing in it.

Yeh oz has passed its used by date in my eyes ......

These days its a meal ticket for those with a burka and a beard in a wobbly boat off the coast of sumatra .

Look at Europe and America....everywhere the same.... If you are white native working man than you have lost.....

They are not working men or woman but a burden on the taxpayer.Same rule in my country dissability benefits means 4 weeks per year holiday.

I found I drank significantly more when I lived in the states because quite honestly the alcohol and beer selection is far superior to anything Thailand can offer. Singha, Chang, Leo is utter garbage. Typical higher end spirits are rare in Thailand and when you find them they are quite pricey. With that said I seldom drink here but I do have former colleagues that regularly travel to Thailand and they mule over a nice 750 of Vodka, Tequila, Rum for me. So my collection is growing quite well and I enjoy them sparingly.

There is nothing wrong with drinking alcohol. It has been around for thousands of years. Its the people that can handle it or have zero self control that make it a big deal. I love a top shelf spirit "Neat" out in the sala.

Cheers.........
Same with any other drugs.. there is no problem using drugs.. only those who loose control and damage themselves are a problem.

Its the persons body and he / she should be able to do with it what he / she wants as long as you don't cause problems for others.
Beer in the USA superior. You must to be joking. All the common and most drinked beers in the US are terrible. Among the worst in the world
Oh My......... Clearly you have only tried Budweiser, Michelob, Miller and Coors which in comparison is like enjoying Leo, Chang, Singha and Archer.

The US has the widest variety of beers anywhere in the world. I am not saying all are good but the majority are absolutely excellent. The only beer I have found that is noteworthy in Thailand, but is imported and pricey, is Hoegaarden.

The US has de widest variety of beers?Errrhum ever been to Belgium fella?I think where at 450 different kinds now but ive lost count i think.

10. It has to do with religion as Thailand is Buddhist country and others like Cambodia, Myanmar, Japan and Taiwan are safe,

As the teaching not to harm others living being. Compare with Malaysia, Phillipines and Indonesia you feel not safe walking at night.

Comparing japan and Taiwan is comparing appels and pears, they don't fall in the same category as the other country's in your post. And forget about the buddhist thing ,haven't heard of the violant clashes between muslims and buddhists in Myanmar?
11. And you still cannot spell forty

It was a typo, aah yes TEFL people the joke of the expat community in Thailand .Met a lot of those <deleted> in my time in Thailand.

Ahhh ....yeah... always room for a cheap shot against English teachers. why is teaching such a bad thing here?
I have nothing against bonafide teachers, but most of the lot calling themself a " teacher" wouldn't be allowed near a classroom in a hundred years in my home country.

This ain't your home country...........whistling.gif

It ain't your home country either Einstein.

13. Many Indian's have very bad body odour[ie armpit's},i think this can be a problem, also many are cheap charlie's,and the head wobbling, well it's not an appealing package,is it.

There's apparantly a big lot of Indian family's that have been living in Thailand for decade's and own a whole lot of bussinesses in Thailand 's major tourist centers and i'm talking nice hotels and such and not the franky from Iondon and Noi from the sexy man bar who started a geusthouse type of bussiness.
