  1. Or the UK. It's much easier for Thailand (and Australia) to deport these people cos they aren't signed up to the ECHR. Their governments never signed away their sovereignty.
  2. The price paid for visa-free travel. Many of these people would've been weeded out by a visa system that does a criminal record check, many would be crims where they come from. An old acquaintance and long term resident admits that he used to deal heroin in America, he's now a school teacher in Thailand.
  3. In 1986 I went on a dy trip from HK through Macao to Shenzhen/China. We had lunch in a very nice hotel, but the grinding poverty away from there was obvious.
  4. What I often noticed at Swampy, first is the big sign saying "Welcome To Land Of Smile". The secong thing was that you would occassionally/quite often get a smile from a female I O, you would pretty much never get a smile from the (surly) male ones.
  5. A sterling-effort, well done that man. I think the best I've heard of was 12 years????
  6. If you can read through your Rose tinted glasses. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-05/thailand-tops-the-list-of-deadly-destinations-for-australians/9020610?utm_campaign=abc_news_web&utm_content=link&utm_medium=content_shared&utm_source=abc_news_web
  7. You conveniently forgot to mention that accidents are mentioned.

  9. Yes I remember reading that article with a friend when it was first published, had a larf???? There are rumours that these places will be knocked down a decade before they are, Nana Plaza being another. Someone tells me that the Beer Garden Soi 7 meets the wrecking ball in July.
  10. You sound a bit 'geographically-challenged' there Ryan. Soi 22 is maybe 1km from Cowboy. That was my 'stomping ground' for 20 years.
  11. Many years ago the Australian authorities announced that Thailand was the overseas country where the most Australians had died in the previous year. The most common causes of (premature, mostly younger people) death: Drowning Illicit drugs Alcohol Motorbike accidents (Not necessarily in that order).
  12. Not really, I've known a few Americans who weren't like that. That's just a stereotype, reinforced by one of their recent leaders.
  13. No issue at all with Americans, in my 20 years in Thailand I had many American friends. What I said was just a kinda joke.
  14. You could always tell the Americans by the glowing halo that hovered over their heads????
  15. There is such a place, it's called "left luggage". It's where they take their brain out of their head and put it in a locker before proceding into Thailand. Not what happened in this case though, RIP to the guy.
  16. This would also mean Russia giving up Crimea, which I don't think will happen. So there's a deadlock there.
  17. I saw something in America a few years ago. Why didn't the cops rush in? It was pointed out that the shooter was using an AR15, whilst the cops on the scene only had handguns. Go figure! ????????
  18. It's just as well that I never became a teacher, because I would've ended up doing this! ???? ???? ????
