  1. Air Asia stewardesses are much hotter than Thai stewardesses. Being a 'legacy airline', many of Thai's stewardesses should have retired 25 years ago, an old friend used to say that Air Canada were the same, (grab-a-grannie). I see Thai now wanting £1350 to fly LHR-BKK rtn, it used to be half as much.
  2. You're right, I'm still thinking of pre-COVID numbers. Still, the numbers you quote are still 1 in 5 of all Europeans. I recently checked out air fares London - Bangkok, looking like almost double what they were pre-COVID. Thai Airways were quoting £1350, previously £600. Might be part of why tourism numbers are struggling?
  3. Remember that far more Brits live, and holiday in Thailand than almost any other nationality, they're over-represented.
  4. Many years ago I 'lost' the key to my safe at a Bangkok hotel, so I paid 800 Baht for a new one. About 2 years later I found the original key in the lining of my hand-carry bag where I had 'hidden' it!????
  5. Lots of farang of all nationalitiies drink & drive in Thailand, it's just that they never get caught or have an accident.????
  6. Yes. In the UK your insurance premiums don't start falling until you reach 25 years old.
  7. I've never really been into drugs, I'm much more of a boozer. I also think they have been a scouge on society. However, I believe the world needs a totally different approach, considering that what has happened so far with criminalisation has been a failure. The 'war on drugs' has been lost. Many years ago I remember one of the top cops in London saying that the Metropolitan Police has no problem at all with drugs, The problem that they do have is the crime that people commit to get the money to pay for them.
  8. There have been times where a LB will take off their heels to more quickly chase their intended victim, and when they catch him, whack him over the head with said heel!???? Many years ago there was an LB problem on the footbridges on lower Sukhumvit in BKK, they worked in pairs. They would wait for an unsuspecting farang to walk across the bridge. Suddenly, one waould grab his 'crown jewels' (distraction!) whilst the other whipped his mobile phone off his belt.
  9. Over 20 years ago I had to get 120 passport photos for an Algerian work visa. This was before digital photography really took off. 30 strips of 4 photos cost £75, in one of those old photo booths. Some years later I got a Saudi work permit (an 'agama') for which you HAD to use a visa agent. Cost quite a bit of money and involved an overnight stop in London.
  10. A work permit or business visa take much longer to get, also 'hassle' and expense, much easier & cheaper & quicker just to go in on a tourist visa. The same would be true in very many countries.
  11. I think a 'business' visa is quite easy to get, I had a few.
  12. In my home county in recent years more people have been losing their driving licences for drug-drivng than drunk-driving. An old friend who still lives in BKK was ok drinking and getting drunk, so long as it wasn't WHISKY he was drinking, when he did he would turn into an incredibly obnoxious person. When I worked in Oz an Ozzie lady said that dark rum has a reputation for doing the same thing in Australia. (Commonly Bundy & Coke).
  13. It can sometimes be very hard to tell how old Thai ladies actually are. Many years ago I knew a petite and pretty Thai lady who was 31 (on her ID card). On sight she could have probably passed for 13 or 14.
  14. No. I worked for Velseis seismic (2006), and our client was Interoil. Another client there was Oilsearch. Working in the Purari River area.
