We are living in the hottest period for 125,000 years

The UK just reconfirmed having a higher record high temperature than Hong Kong (strange but true). -
Anyone with experience doing border runs via Laos?
Andrew65 replied to csaba81's topic in Chiang Mai
To save a bit of money on a Laos visa-on-arrival make sure you have US$ for the visa fee. If you pay in Baht it costs more. -
And guns aren't used to kill people by people that don't have guns. Furthermore, I've long thought that the average person is too careless and irresponsible to own firearms.

I agree, and I've never been into illicit drugs. The "war on drugs" has been lost. Time for a different approach.

Proposal to waive visa fees for foreign tourists to Thailand
Andrew65 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The last time I did one it was 1800 Baht. Qualified? I lived in Bangkok for 20 years. -
Proposal to waive visa fees for foreign tourists to Thailand

They would have worked out how much revenue they raise from issuing visas or extensions (1800 Baht for an extension), a way of 'self-financing' embassies and the immigration dept, also a job creation scheme at the immigration dept. Have you ever noticed how many people work at the Laksi immigration office, if they gave people 90 days on arrival many of those people would have nothing to do. -
Proposal to waive visa fees for foreign tourists to Thailand

One problem being I think, in the UK anyway, is that people have been turning on the TV to see scenes of people queueing out of the doors of airports for several hours, mass-flight cancellations, and thought they would leave flying abroad on holiday until next year. Another thing being that airfares have risen considerably. I just looked at the Eva Air flight from LHR to BKK rtn, you're now looking at £850, pre-pandemic it was £550. -
Tourist cop and associate deny extortion - charges laid and bail denied
Andrew65 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
He must have been taking time off extorting money from tourists for discarding fag ends, which I thought was the main function of the TP. -
I'm not looking for any relationships, also no kids or grandkids.

I've done both. I had a few girlfriends in Thailand who weren't hookers. I went off going with bar girls in my later years in Thailand, for various reason. I'm 57 and have spent the last 4 years living in the UK, having returned from Thailand. What are the chances of me getting a young, slim, attractive woman here? Zero.

All men pay for sex, it's just that some aren't man enough to admit it.

I used to sit out the front of Tilac Bar, sometimes watch the Football there too. In the years when I did mess around I would often bar fine a girl at 9pm, and then go around the other bars getting sozzled till 11pm. Then get the girl and go home, way too drunk. I often thought that I was the guy who all the girls wanted to sleep with, cos that's all they had to do.????

I know about roid-rage, but booze is as bad with some guys. I had an old friend in Bangkok many years ago who I used to drink with at the hotel that we stopped at. By the time he was finishing his second large bottle of Chang he had changed from quite a nice guy into a not nice guy. If there were people sat a few tables away he would start loudly talking bad things about them, so that they could hear. Another mutual friend there used to refuse to go out drinking with him. This guy also used to like Pattaya.

Departure/arrival card (TM6) temporary scrapped
Andrew65 replied to george's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
An observation after many years of TM6's. Female immigration officers tend to staple it inside your passport, male IO's tend not to. (A few times over the years people lost this, and probably why). -
Thai policeman sentenced to 50 years on bribery conviction
Andrew65 replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Apparently, in ancient China, a senoir local official was known as a Mandarin. This was an unpaid position, but anyone wanting something approved by the Mandarin was expected to give him a 'present'. -

Many years ago a police General died. His wife and mia-noi were fighting like rats in a sack over his $100 million fortune. At that time his only income during his lifetime was a salary of around US$25,000. He was 'unusually wealthy'.
